Commencing in Los Angeles, California, eleven teams began their race around the world from the front yard of the famous Playboy Mansion. Upon hearing the word 'Go!' teams raced to their packs and first clues to discover that they would be flying to Shannon, Ireland in the southwest end of the European island nation. To do this, teams would need to take one of two charter flights leaving LAX upon which seats would be first-come-first serve. Five sets of seats were available in the first flight and six in the second, and while there would be a significant time difference between the flights, the earlier one would inevitably be delayed.

Answer: Ferry

Upon arriving in Ireland, teams needed to make their way to a ferry in the city of Connemara and find the town of Inishmore. Once there, teams would need to locate a church, commonly regarded as the smallest church in the world, known as Teampall Bheanain.

Here, teams would be able to sign up for one of three departure times: 8:00am, 8:30am, and 9:30am. This would denote the time of their departure ferry leaving the following morning. All eleven teams spent an overnight stay in Irish lodgings in the meantime.

Answer: Hendekea

Upon returning to the mainland, teams located their next clues waiting on their cars. From here, teams needed to drive forty-two miles to Gleggan Farms. Once there, they needed to ride tandem bikes to their next clue boxes further down the path. This would be the Road Block task. For this, one member of each team needed to 'pedal for their partner'.

This member needed to ride a high-wire bicycle along a cable suspended two hundred feet over the Atlantic Ocean from cliff to cliff. Their partner would be suspended on a pole beneath the wire and travel with the participant to the other side. TK, Vyxsin, Nathan, Azaria, Staella, Jason, Nicolas, Ron, Marianna, Kate, and Jennifer completed this first Road Block.

Answer: Donkey

Upon finishing the Road Block, teams needed to collect a total of thirty bundles of peat moss (divided into two baskets) and load them onto the back of a donkey. After this, they needed to lead the donkey to a hitching post back at the beginning of their original path, where they began the tandem bike ride.

Although many teams breezed through this task, others found the donkeys to be quite stubborn and fell behind after the Road Block. After this, teams received their next clue.

Answer: Ari and Staella

Teams completing the donkey task made their way 13 miles to the first Pit Stop: Connemara Heritage & History Centre. Catching up after their ferry ride and blazing through the donkey task, Azaria and Hendekea paid attention to their surroundings and backtracked to the Pit Stop (which everyone passed) to arrive in first place.

As a result the brother and sister won a trip for two to a Banff, Alberta vacation from Travelocity. Ari and Staella, who received bad karma after stealing a taxi in Shannon, ended up getting a VERY stubborn donkey and fell too far behind to catch up.

They became the first eliminated team.

Answer: Amsterdam

In the beginning of Leg 2, teams departed from the Connemara Heritage & History Centre and headed to Shannon Airport to fly to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Although the connecting flights to Dublin were fairly straight-forward for most teams, the flights from Dublin to Amsterdam contained a limited number of seats leaving three teams at the back of the pack on their way to the Netherlands' capital city.

Answer: Furniture

Upon arriving in Amsterdam, teams needed to locate their next route marker/clue box at the Melkmeisjesbrug Bridge on one of the city's many interconnected canals. Here, teams found the Detour task, a choice between 'Hoist It' and 'Hunt It'. Lorena and Jason, Kynt and Vyxsin, Shana and Jennifer, Nathan and Jennifer, and TK and Rachel all decided to 'Hoist It'. For this task, each participating team needed to go to a nearby building and use a pulley system to hoist five pieces of furniture into a house to receive their next clue.

Although the task required heavy lifting, it would take time to complete effectively.

Answer: A bike

Teams not completing 'Hoist It' decided to try their fate at 'Hunt It' instead. In this task, teams traveled to a nearby parking lot to search through over one thousand bicycles for two matching the pattern of colours given in their Detour clue. Although this could be time consuming, teams with luck, patience, and a keen eye could finish quickly.

After finding the bikes, teams needed to ride them five miles through the city to receive their next clue. Azaria and Hendekea, Nicolas and Donald, Marianna and Julia, Ronald and Christina and Kate and Pat completed this Detour option.

After the Detour, teams traveled by bus to the rural village of Ransdorp and searched through a specific field to receive their next clue, the Road Block. This task required that one member perform a sport known to locals as fierljeppen. In this, the participating teammate needed to vault (using a pole) over a twelve foot wide muddy ditch and land on both feet on the opposite side to complete the task. Jason, Shana, Jennifer, Kynt, Hendekea, Rachel, Donald, Marianna, Christina and Pat did this one to receive the next clue.

Answer: Kate and Pat

After completing the Road Block, teams were told to make their way to the next Pit Stop, the Yacht Club in Durgerdam, Amesterdam. To get there, however, teams needed to ride a bakfiet, a bicycle with a cargo bin on the front (which one member needed to ride in) to their destination. Lorena and Jason, who made good time on the Detour, were able to maintain their lead and take a first place victory winning a pair of sports bikes. Kate and Pat were unable to recover from a late second flight and fell behind. Upon arriving at the Pit Stop they were the second team to be eliminated from the race.
