Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of Leg 7, teams flew to Thailand from which country?

Answer: India

Teams began Leg 7 departing from Jaigarh Fort in the city of Jaipur, India and were told to fly to Phuket, Thailand. All six teams ended up taking a trip on the same flight through Bangkok, Thailand landing fourteen hours after their departure. Heading into even hotter weather than in India, the six teams hopped into taxis and were led through Phuket with nothing more than a picture for reference.
2. Arriving at the Phuket Zoo in Leg 7, teams needed to find a statue of which animal?

Answer: Gorilla

Since the beginning of the leg, the only item given to teams as a hint of where to go in Phuket was a picture of a gorilla statue. Teams found this statue holding their clue in the Phuket Zoo where teams were then required to take a picture with a tiger (whose attraction was operated by a one-armed man, no less).

While waiting for their picture and subsequent clue to develop, teams needed to participate in an elephant performance in which teams were lightly stepped-on and squatted-on by elephants.
3. Which team was first to leave the herb shop in Phuket in Leg 7?

Answer: Mark and Michael

After departing from the Phuket Zoo, teams needed to head to Old Phuket to locate the city's oldest herb shop, Nguan Choon Tong Herbs Shop. Here, teams needed to ask the man behind the counter to open the ninety-nine drawers in the room, one at a time, until they located their next clue (in only six drawers).

While Jaime and Cara arrived at this task first, they were one of the last to leave. Mark and Michael ended up breezing through this task getting a quick lead.
4. Which team completed the '100 Barrels' Detour task in Thailand in Leg 7?

Answer: Kisha and Jen

After visiting the herb shop, teams received the Detour task for this leg of the race. The required a choice between '100 Barrels' and '2 Miles'. In '100 Barrels' (chosen by Kisha and Jen and Mel and Mike') teams headed to a harbour in Phuket to load a boat with barrels. Over fifty barrels needed to be passed to the top of the boat while just under fifty barrels needed to be filled with freshwater on the bottom. Teams choosing '2 Miles' needed to find a set of rickshaws in Phuket and transport them two miles through the city to their next clue box. One team member needed to pilot the rickshaw while the other needed to sit inside. Teams could not be guided by a taxi in this task. Tammy and Victor, Jaime and Cara, Mark and Michael, and Margie and Luke finished '2 Miles'.
5. Which team was eliminated in Thailand in Leg 7?

Answer: Mel and Mike

In an eventful final sprint at the end of this leg, teams made their way to the seventh Pit Stop, Wat Thep Nimit Temple in Phuket. Mark and Michael arrived first, but were forced to wait out two thirty minute penalties, the first for intentionally hiding elements of the '2 Miles' Detour and the second for getting their taxi to lead them through the challenge. Tammy and Victor ended up arriving to take the first place position fifty-eight minutes into the penalty and were rewarded with a trip for two to Oahu care of Travelocity. Jaime and Cara also took second place before Mark and Michael checked in.

In the end, it was Mel and Mike who were unable to recover from an early setback and they were eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 8, did teams travel to Bangkok to complete their tasks?

Answer: Yes

Remaining in Thailand for Leg 8, teams ended up making their way to the capital city, Bangkok, by plane from Phuket International Airport. Departing from Phuket in the middle of the night, teams took planes landing in Bangkok in the morning. All five remaining teams ended up taking the same flight and landed in the city to take taxis to Chareonyont 007 Boat Yard where they would be able to find their next clue box.
7. In Leg 8, what did team members need to add to a boat during the Road Block?

Answer: A propeller

Upon arriving at the Chareonyont 007 Boat Yard, teams found their Road Block task in which one member of each team needed to get their hands dirty to place a propeller onto one of five long-tailed boats on the harbourfront, and correctly at that. Margie, Jaime, Victor, Mark, and Kisha completed this Road Block.

After this task, teams needed to board their respective boats and use a map to locate their next clue at Peninsula Pier in downtown Bangkok.
8. How many teams completed the 'Broken Teeth' Detour option in Leg 8?

Answer: One

Reaching the Peninsula Pier on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, teams received their Detour clue for this leg of the race. In the 'Broken Teeth' Detour task, teams needed to visit the 'Street of Happy Smiles' in Bangkok. Once there, teams needed to search through fifty pairs of dentures provided and fit the correct sets properly into the mouths of five of the willing participants of the task. Only Margie and Luke completed this task before continuing on.
9. In the 'Broken Record' Detour option in Leg 8, what did teams need to do?

Answer: Sing karaoke

Teams not completing 'Broken Teeth' completed 'Broken Record' instead. For this, teams needed to head to Bangkok's Chinatown to find a group of local transsexuals and a party taxi (seriously). Then, they needed to perform karaoke while their driver took them five miles to their next clue box in the city. Tammy and Victor, Jaime and Cara, Kisha and Jen, and Mark and Michael all decided to complete this task.
10. Which team placed first in the eighth leg of the race in Thailand?

Answer: Margie and Luke

After the Detour, teams were told to make their way by taxi to the next Pit Stop of the race, Phaya Thai Palace in Bangkok. Margie and Luke became the first place team (for their third time during the race) and they won a trip for two to San Juan, Puerto Rico thanks to Travelocity. Kisha and Jen arrived in third, but because they left their passports behind at the Road Block, they had to go back to retrieve them before they could check in. Luckily for them, Mark and Michael once again took on a time penalty (as they did in the previous leg of the race).

This time, for using their own personal items to pay cab fares when they ran low on money, Mark and Michael took two separate penalties, both of two hours. Since Kisha and Jen came into the Pit Stop during the first penalty, Mark and Michael checked in to find that it was a non-elimination point and that they would need to finish the rest of their time penalty at the beginning of the next leg (for a total of one hundred ninety minutes).

In addition, they would need to compete a Speed Bump for placing last. Yikes!
