Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams departed from Dubai, UAE and flew to which city?

Answer: Amsterdam

In the beginning of Leg 9, teams departed from Atlantis, The Palm in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai in the afternoon and were informed that they would need to make their way more than three thousand miles to the city of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Due to a midnight flight, all six teams were bunched onto the same plane. Once in Amsterdam, teams needed to hop into luxury cars and drive themselves to Afsluitdijk, a causeway in the countryside, where they could find their next clue box at the base of a statue of Cornelis Lely.
2. Which team member completed the bell-counting Road Block task in Leg 7?

Answer: Ericka

After finding the clue box in Afsluitdijk, teams were told to drive to the nearby city of Groningen to find the Martinitoren, a tall bell tower overlooking the city. Here, one member of each team was required to complete a Road Block. For this task, the selected member needed to ascend to the top levels of the tower (by the narrow stairwells) and count the bells inside before presenting their number to the bellkeeper and receiving their next clue.

This number would turn out to be sixty-two. Meghan, Sam, Matt, Tiffany, Flight Time, and Ericka completed this task and continued on.
3. What were teams required to ride to their Detour tasks in Leg 7?

Answer: Bicycles

After the Road Block, teams needed to drive to the town of Vierhuizen to locate a specific windmill at which their next clue box would be located. This would be the teams' Detour. Before attempting their respective tasks, teams first needed to don costumes of a traditional Dutch man and woman including wooden clogs, then they needed to bike to the intersection at which their task could be accessed. Brian and Ericka ended up not riding bikes to the Detour and thus faced a thirty minute time penalty.
4. What did teams need to eat after the 'Farmers Dance' Detour task in Leg 7?

Answer: Herring

For the Detour, teams either chose 'Farmers Game' or 'Farmers Dance'. In the former of these, completed by Meghan and Cheyne, Sam and Dan, and Gary and Matt, teams needed to strip down to their Dutch underwear and swim across a cold stream to a field at which they could play a game of gold with clogs on sticks and large balls. Once they hit the ball into three holes staying at a par of eight per hole, they could receive their next clue.

In 'Farmers Dance', teams had to begin by striking a high striker strength test then advancing into a barn to learn a traditional dance. Once teams performed that dance they would have to eat a soused herring in onions to receive their next clue.

The remaining teams completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 7?

Answer: Maria and Tiffany

After the detour task, teams proceeded on their bikes, and in their Dutch outfits, to the Pit Stop at the harbour in Zoutkamp. Here, Sam and Dan took their first first-place victory winning themselves a pair of sand buggies for after the race. Brian and Ericka, who forgot to take the bikes during the Detour task, took a thirty minute penalty.

It was, however, Maria and Tiffany who were eliminated. Unable to complete either Detour task (being too weak and fatigued to complete the high striker and the golf game) they took a twenty-four hour penalty for opting out of both Detour options and were, thus, eliminated.
6. In Leg 8, teams needed to travel to an amusement park in which Scandinavian country?

Answer: Sweden

Commencing Leg 10 from the harbour in Zoutkamp, the Netherlands, teams were handed a clue telling them to fly to Stockholm, Sweden in the afternoon. Because of the tickets available from Amsterdam, teams were separated onto two different flights both leaving a couple hours apart. Once arriving in Stockholm, teams needed to take the train and a ferry ride across the Northern Djurgarden to the Tivoli Grona Lund, an amusement park, where their next clue could be found at the base of a freefall-drop ride.
7. To receive a Travelocity Roaming Gnome in Leg 8, teams had to play which game?

Answer: Ring toss

Once at the amusement park, one member of each team needed to ride the Fritt Fall, Tivola Grona Lund's tallest ride. At the top of the drop tower, the selected member needed to see an arrow pointing to their next clue in the sideshow section of the park.

Here, team members needed to play a game of Travelocity ring toss and throw rings over large cones to locate one of five Travelocity Roaming Gnomes containing their next clue on the bottom. Teams would need to bring this gnome to the Pit Stop to win a prize.
8. In the Detour task in Leg 8, all five teams chose which of these?

Answer: 'Nobel Dynamite'

The gnome would contain teams' Detour task. For this, teams chose either 'Nobel Dynamite' or 'Viking Alphabet'. In 'Nobel Dynamite', teams headed to a rock quarry and filled burlap sacks with sand to create a makeshift bunker. When this was done they would blow up a portion of rock int he quarry using dynamite and search the surrounding blast site for a box containing their clue. All five teams did this task.

In 'Viking Alphabet', teams would've needed to find a location where they could decipher a clue using Viking Runestones, then search an area for a viking who would hand them their next clue.
9. In Leg 8, teams revisited a Road block from a past season of the race. This game mechanic was known as which of these?

Answer: Switchback

After the Detour, teams drove to Bogs Gard Farm and ran to a marked field to find a Road Block task known as a Switchback. The first of its kind, this task forced teams to complete a Road block from Season 6 known for its notorious difficulty. For this, Meghan, Sam, Big Easy, Brian, and Gary needed to unroll the hay bales in the field to find only one of seven containing a race flag.

There were almost two hundred bales in the field. When completed in Season 6, one team was eliminated after eight hours of searching in over one hundred individual hay bales.
10. Which team was first to arrive at the Pit Stop in the farmer's field in Leg 8?

Answer: Flight Time and Big Easy

After finding their race flags in the hay bales, teams were told to run down the road to their eighth Pit Stop. Flight Time and Big Easy, who were third to reach the Road Block, were the first to check in scoring their second win of the race and winning a trip for two to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Coincidentally, it was also Flight Time's birthday when they checked in.

In the end, it was Gary and Matt, who arrived at the Switchback task in last, who didn't pull ahead after several hours of unrolling hay bales. Luckily they were spared from elimination but faced a Speed Bump in the next leg.
