Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 6, teams had to take a train to what Dutch city?

Answer: Rotterdam

The Leg 6 Pit Stop was less a rest point and more a brief interlude as teams were told to keep racing directly from the Arc de Triomphe to Gare du Nord, where they would have to catch a train to the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Arriving there, teams had to locate Vessel 11, a large boat docked in Leuvehaven, where they would be spending the night. Each team would be let loose from their unconventional lodgings in fifteen minute intervals the following morning, starting at 5:00am.
2. For their Road Block tasks in Leg 7, teams had to find which of these throughout the windmills of Kinderdijk?

Answer: Paintings

Starting their day in Rotterdam early, teams raced to the water taxi terminal at Kop van Zuid and hired a boat to take them to the Kinderdijk Windmill Village to find their Road Block task. There, one member of each team needed to 'pick the sunflowers', and by this, their cryptic task meant that selected participants would be forced to search through the local windmills and outlying fields to locate a painting to match their example of Van Gogh's famous "Sunflowers". Krista, Rick, Diana, Joey, Tanner, Logan, and Denise completed this task.
3. Teams used numbers tracked by their FitBit devices to deliver which of these types of flowers in Leg 7?

Answer: Tulips

Upon completion of their Road Block task, teams made use of the FitBit numbers they'd been tracking since the start of Leg 6. Taking the highest heart rate recorded from their Road Block tasks in Leg 6 as well as the heart rate taken from the "Sunflowers" task, they had to take the difference of the two numbers and pick that many tulips from a nearby stall to be delivered to the Spakenburgermeisje.

When this was done correctly they were directed to take their water taxis back to Rotterdam to find a clue waiting at the Nolet Distillery.
4. Which was the only team to complete the 'Skip' Detour task in the Netherlands in Leg 7?

Answer: Tiffany and Krista

At the Nolet Distillery, teams received their Detour clue, a choice between 'Ship' and 'Skip'. In 'Ship', teams engaged with a tough task involving the busiest port in Europe. Heading to Millennium Tower, teams learned how to operate a training vessel to locate two ships in a simulated storm in under five minutes.

In 'Skip', teams instead learned and completed a complicated double-dutch skipping routine to get their next clue. Only Tiffany and Krista completed the latter task.
5. Which team was eliminated at the Pit Stop in Leg 7 (in the Netherlands)?

Answer: Cindy and Rick

After completing their Detour tasks, teams were given the instruction to travel to their next Pit Stop, though this was a more complicated task than initially let on. Heading out from Rotterdam, teams had to travel by train to The Hague and then connect, via tram, to their seventh Pit Stop in front of the Peace Palace. Justin and Diana were able to take the win again, taking their second consecutive victory and their fourth in seven legs.

This time, they won a cash prize from FitBit-- a dollar per step taken by the pair combined (for a total of $31,873 USD).

The last place team in this leg ended up being Cindy and Rick, whose problems with transportation in the leg pushed them to the back of the pack. They were eliminated in seventh place.
6. To start Leg 8, teams had to book flights to what Polish city?

Answer: Krakow

Teams took a spin on a few modes of transportation to get them to their first destination in Leg 8. Starting in The Hague, they had to hop onto the Travelocity Mobile App to book flights to Krakow, Poland, but to get to their next route marker at Plaza Krakow, they needed to take a train to Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam, the plane to Krakow, and a cab to their destination. Once there, teams had to dive to the bottom of a swimming pool to pull up their next clue-- a Detour choice.
7. What did teams completing Leg 8's 'Mine' Detour option need to load into a mine cart?

Answer: Salt

The Leg 8 Detour forced teams into two demanding tasks. In 'Mine', teams had to travel to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, a 13th century salt mine and UNESCO World Heritage Site, and suit up to descend one thousand feet underground to complete a physically demanding task.

There, they had to pick up timber used to strengthen mining passages and deliver it to a loading area. Then, after filling a mining cart with salt, they had to push the full cart back through the tunnel and trade it off for their next clue. Justin and Diana, Chris and Logan, and Tanner and Josh completed this task.
8. In Leg 8, teams completing the 'Music' Detour option had to learn how to play the stand-up bass.

Answer: False

Those opting out of the 'Mine' task instead chose 'Music', allowing them to stay in the city of Krakow. At the Main Square, teams had to learn a piano accompaniment for a street violinist and then, after moving their piano across the streets of Krakow, find a spot to perform alongside them and earn one hundred zloty which they could trade for their next clue. This task was completed by Denise and James Earl, Kelsey and Joey, and Tiffany and Krista.

After the Detour, all teams were required to visit the Oskar Schindler Factory for an emotional tour culminating in their next clue.
9. What type of cuisine did team members need to identify during the Leg 8 Road Block (in Poland)?

Answer: Jewish

For their final task of Leg 8, teams had to head to Krakow's Jewish Quarter to look for their next clue box, enclosed in which was a Road Block. After choosing one team member to 'handle a big order', the selected participant needed to use a provided dinner order to identify seven traditional Jewish dishes, collect the proper amount of plates, and then transport them to a party at the Klezmer-Hois. If they were correct, the host would send them to the next Pit Stop. Justin, Kelsey, James Earl, Tiffany, Chris, and Josh completed this task.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop at the end of the eighth leg of the race (in Poland)?

Answer: Tanner and Josh

Once team members completed the Road Block task and got their plates to the proper restaurant, they received a clue instructing them to reunite with their partners inside the establishment to step onto the Pit Stop mat. Phil awarded Justin and Diana, who took a lead from the very beginning of the leg, with their fifth win of the race (and their third in a row). For winning this one they claimed a trip for two from Travelocity to Shanghai, China.

The end of the leg proved to be a tight race between Tiffany and Krista and Tanner and Josh with the latter stepping on the mat last.

They were spared, however, with a non-elimination leg, the last of the race, though they would need to contend with both a Speed Bump and the possibility of a U-Turn in the subsequent leg.
