Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what major city did teams need to count currency in Leg 3?

Answer: Hong Kong

Heading out very early in the morning (or late at night) from the second Pit Stop at Paco Park in Manila, Philippines, teams were told to fly to Hong Kong to locate their clue box at the Central Pier. After all nine remaining teams boarded the same flight and arrived at this spot over a thousand kilometers away, they were told to take a taxi to Causeway Bay to find the Standard Chartered Bank building.

Here, they had to count over one hundred thousand dollars-worth of Hong Kong dollars to receive their next clue.

They would only receive the clue if they gave the correct number.
2. In Leg 3, teams needed to fly to what New Zealand city?

Answer: Auckland

After completing the money-counting challenge in Hong Kong, teams received a clue sending them several thousand miles southeast to the largest city in New Zealand, Auckland. When teams touched down, they were able to find the next clue in their marked vehicles at the airport.

This clue told them to to drive themselves to Howick Historical Village in Manukau City where they would need to complete a task involving photos taken on Sony CyberShot cameras. The three items they needed to take photos of were a painting, a gravestone, and a sign. Once they handed them in at the Howick Courthouse they could continue on with the race.
3. During the Road Block in New Zealand in Leg 3, teams had to do which of the following?

Answer: Bungee

After the photo ops at the Howick Historical Village, teams ended up making their way back to Auckland to find their Road Block task at the Auckland Bridge. Here, one member of each team needed to perform a forty-meter bungee jump off the AJ Hackett Memorial Bridge before they could receive their Detour task. Marc, Diane, Natasha, Sophie, Terri, Collin, Pamela, Sawaka, and Brett completed this daring plunge over the edge of the bridge to collect the next clue.
4. In Leg 3 in New Zealand, both Detour options were indoors.

Answer: False

Completing the Road Block task, teams immediately received a Detour task. The choice was between 'Wall' and 'Walka'. In 'Wall', teams needed to head to the Birkinhead Indoor Climbing Center to ascend a rock climbing wall. Both team members needed to retrieve a flag at the top of the wall and then one of the two had to collect the clue, also at the top.

In 'Waka', teams instead had to drive to Lake Pupuke, hop into a marked outrigger canoe, and paddle themselves around a marked course to collect three flags to trade for their clue. Marc and Rovilson and Adrian and Collin completed 'Wall' while Ann and Diane, Daichi and Sawaka, Paula and Natasha, Terri and Henry, Vanessa and Pamela, and Sophie and Aurelia completed 'Waka'.
5. Which team was eliminated in New Zealand in Leg 3?

Answer: Brett and Kinaryosih

After the Detour, teams drove themselves to the Matakana Coast to find Ascension Vineyard and their next clue outside. Here, teams found another clue driving them to Spookers Haunted House. If they could make it through the Old Nurse's Hostel alive they would be able to receive a clue directing them to the Pit Stop in the nearby Forest of Fear. Marc and Rovilson won their second consecutive leg of the race, stepping on the Pit Stop mat in first place and winning free fuel for a year from Caltex. Unable to finish either Detour option, Brett and Kinaryosih went straight to the Pit Stop and became the second team eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 4, teams remained in New Zealand, but headed to what major city on the north island?

Answer: Rotorua

Leaving the Pit Stop in the Forest of Fear in Karaka, teams were told to drive themselves to the Caltex gas station in Tirau to fuel up for their journey. Using a Caltex gas card to fill their tank, they would receive a clue from the station attendant driving them to Okere Falls Scenic Reserve where, after dressing up in wetsuits, they would need to go sledging down a very cold river to receive their next bit of Route Info.
7. In Leg 4 in New Zealand, teams needed to head to Lake Tikitapu and do which of the following to receive a clue at a buoy?

Answer: Jetboat

After their sledging task, teams needed to get wet once again, but this time they needed to drive themselves to Agrojet Boat Tours at Lake Tikitapu. Here, one member would need to drive a 450 horsepower Agrojet while the other navigated them through a marked buoy course to the finish line.

When they ended up finishing up the course, they would receive their next clue on land and be able to drive to the next Road Block. Teams needed to choose the participant before leaving.
8. In the Road Block in Leg 4, teams needed to locate which of these in the mud?

Answer: A stick

For the Road Block task, teams needed to decide which member would be 'a real stick in the mud'. Both members then needed to drive to Hell's Gate Mud Baths outside Rotorua where the chosen member had to immerse themselves in a pool of hot, muddy water, and search the ground for a large stick to trade it for their Detour clue. Once Marc, Collin, Paula, Daichi, Ann, Henry, and Vanessa retrieved the stick from this active geothermal reserve, they carried on.
9. In New Zealand in Leg 4, most teams completed the 'Flax' Detour task.

Answer: False

After the Road block, teams drove to Te Puia near Rotorua to attempt a Detour task, either 'Flax' or 'Sticks'. In 'Flax', completed by Marc and Rovilson, Paula and Natasha, and Terri and Henry, teams needed to learn how to weave a traditional Maori headband out of flax leaves.

In 'Sticks', Adrian and Collin, Daichi and Sawaka, Ann and Diane, and Vanessa and Pamela learned a Maori stick game requiring patience and teamwork. Once they properly tossed the sticks back and forth to the rhythm of the music without dropping them, they could receive their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 4?

Answer: Sophie and Aurelia

After the Detour task, teams raced on foot to the next Pit Stop, Pohotu Geyser at Te Puia, where they were greeted by a traditional Maori tribesman. Marc and Rovilson won their third consecutive leg of the race and with the victory they received a pair of Sony HD Handycam SR7s.

After an adrenaline-fueled leg in New Zealand, all but one of the teams checked in. Ultimately, Sophie and Aurelia could not make up for the seven hours they were behind checking in at the Pit Stop in the previous leg. They were unable to reach Okere Falls before it closed and they were eliminated there in the parking lot.
