Mulder looks up the phone while inside the casino. In case you didn't know, the casino floor behind Mulder was inserted into the background in post-production, while the scene was filmed in front of the blue screen (for cost reasons, primarily).

2. At the end of the episode Mulder goes to see a scientist at the Smithsonian to tell him about the Jersey Devil. What kind of scientist does he intend to see?

Answer: Ethnobiologist

Mulder says he has an appointment to see an ethnobiologist and then Scully, who is not terribly excited to see Rob again, joins him.

I personally found this to be a cool touch by the creators. Or perhaps, they had no other actors available on that day.
