Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Series 12 saw a new in-car theme for the Stig, "Top Gear's" tame racing driver. Throughout this series, what was he listening to?

Answer: Morse Code

In the first episode of series 12, the Stig was listening to 'me like cheese' in Morse Code when driving the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.
2. Who was the "Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car" for the first episode of series 12?

Answer: Sir Michael Parkinson

This was Sir Michael's first guest appearance on 'Top Gear', and he set a lap time of 1 minute 49.4 seconds in the Chevrolet Lacetti.
3. In the first episode, what prized possession did James May reverse into with his lorry?

Answer: his grand piano

When the piano was being lowered to the ground, one of the legs fell off. The leg had to be propped up using a stack of adult magazines. Thankfully from Jeremy and Richard's point of view, James destroyed the piano anyway.
4. In series 12 episode 2, who was the "Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car" that Jeremy struck up a good friendship with?

Answer: Will Young

Throughout the rest of series 12, Richard and James have made jokes about Jeremy's unusually nice comments about Will Young. I shall say no more!
5. Which of these cars appeared in episode 3 of series 12?

Answer: Renault Avantime

The Renault Avantime was the car Jeremy, James and Richard had to improve so it could lap the Top Gear test track as fast as a Mitsubishi Evolution X, which managed a time of 1 minute 28.2 seconds. They failed, despite numerous mechanical improvements, with the car managing a final fast lap of 1 minute 35.4 seconds in the hands of the Stig.
6. In episode 4 of series 12 there was a race. Jeremy, James and Richard had to race from Switzerland to Blackpool on one tank of fuel. The winner(s) would get to switch on Blackpool's famous Christmas lights. What city in Switzerland did they set off from?

Answer: Basel

At the end of the challenge, Richard arrived first in his Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion. Jeremy arrived very shortly after in his Jaguar, and James took so long that he missed the switching on of the Christmas lights.
7. Kevin McCloud, writer and presenter of Channel 4's "Grand Designs", was the "Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car" for episode 5 of series 12. He set a blistering 1 minute 45.9 second lap around the test track. Where did he rank on the celebrity lap times board?

Answer: 2nd

He was second to Jay Kay, who set a lap of 1 minute 45.82 seconds around the track. McCloud's lap was only five hundredths of a second slower, at 1 minute 45.87 seconds (rounded up to 1 minute 45.9 seconds).
8. Episode 6 of series 12 saw a very unconventional road test of the new Ford Fiesta. It raced against a 'baddie' car in a shopping centre. What was the 'baddie' car?

Answer: Chevrolet Corvette

The Fiesta manages to escape from the shopping centre, but the bigger Corvette crashes into a shop display and does not make it out.
9. Episode 7 of series 12 featured the "Top Gear Awards". What did Jeremy, James and Richard decide was the Car of the Year for 2008?

Answer: Caterham Seven

The Caterham won the Car of the Year award because it beat the Bugatti Veyron's lap time, despite being much less expensive.
10. "Top Gear Stuntman" returned in episode 7 of series 12. What stunt did he do?

Answer: Jumped off a ramp in a 1992 Jaguar towing a caravan

"Top Gear Stuntman" was attempting to beat the record set by "Fifth Gear". Unfortunately, he failed, landing just before the marker set by "Fifth Gear". That's "Top Gear" for you! Ambitious but rubbish!
