Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "No TV and No Beer Make Homer Something Something." What's the "Something Something?"

Answer: Go crazy

This is one of the most popular moments in "Simpsons" history. After Mr. Burns invites the Simpsons over to his summer home to take of the home over the winter, he cuts off cable TV and the beer supply to ensure an honest winter's work out of the Simpsons, ignoring Smithers' warning that this may have caused the previous fathers to go insane and murder their families.

This is an especially bad idea when the man in charge of the house is Homer Simpson, whose two favorite things are TV and beer. Homer writes all over the walls on one of the rooms "No TV and no beer make Homer go crazy." He then says to Marge "Well what do you think, Marge? All I need is a title. I was thinking along the lines of no TV and no beer make Home something something." Marge says "Go crazy?" Homer misinterprets that as Marge asking him to go crazy, so he does!
2. Who is in every one of the first 20 "Treehouse of Horrors?"

Answer: Kang and Kodos

Kang and Kodos are a pair of green, tentacled aliens on "The Simpsons." They appear in the first 20 "Treehouse of Horror," sometimes just as a cameo and sometimes as important characters in one of the stories. In some of their most memorable appearances, they own a cookbook entitled "How to Cook For Forty Humans" and Kang is Maggie's father.
3. What kind of animal takes over the world?

Answer: Dolphins

In the final segment of "Treehouse of Horror XI," the Simpsons go to a dolphin show. Lisa feels bad that the poor dolphin, whose name is Snorky, was taken out of its natural habitat to be used just to entertain humans. So, after to show is over, Lisa sneaks into where Snorky is being kept and she sets him free. It turns out that Snorky is the leader of all dolphins. Once he is set free, he invites all the dolphins to a meeting where they decide to wage war on all humans. The dolphins win the war, and the humans are forced to live in the sea.
4. Who is Bart's brother?

Answer: Hugo

The Simspon kids become curious when they see Homer going into the attic with a bucket of fish heads once in a while. He refuses to tell them what's happening. One day, Marge and Homer leave the kids alone in the house (for some obscure reason). The kids get into the attic and notice a monster.

The monster escapes. Marge then admits that she and Homer were hiding a secret from Bart, specifically his twin brother. Marge and Homer start to tell Bart what happened, but then Dr. Hibbert comes out of nowhere and tells the story (what he was doing in the Simpson house is never explained). Marge gave birth to Siamese twins. One of them started biting the other one. Dr. Hibbert performed a test and found out that one of them was pure evil.

He then separated the twins and gave the "good" one to Marge.

They then decided to chain the "bad" one up in the attic and feed him a bucket of fish heads once a week. Homer, Marge, Lisa, and Hibbert then leave to look for Hugo. It turns out Hugo is in the house, and he plans to sew him and Bart back together.

But as he does that, Dr. Hibbert appears and then punches Hugo and knocks him out. He then discovers that Hugo's scar is on the wrong side and that Bart was actually the evil twin. Hugo then lives with the rest of the family in the house while Bart is chained up in the attic and fed fish heads.
5. What happens to Homer's drinking buddies after he gets cursed?

Answer: Killed by helicopter

The Simpsons go to a gypsy fortuneteller. Homer accidentally trashes the gypsy's office. The gypsy then curses Homer, saying "You will bring bad luck to everyone you love!" Marge gradually grows hair all over her body, Bart's neck gets longer when Homer strangles him, Lisa turns into a horse, Maggie turns into a ladybug, and Barney crashes a helicopter, and it falls right through the roof of Moe's tavern, right on top of Lenny and Carl. Moe is shrunk and put into his own pickled egg jar.
6. Who was the Grim Reaper before Homer?

Answer: Doug

Doug comes to the Simpson house to kill Bart. Doug chases him all over the house. Doug catches Bart by throwing his scythe at him, the scythe pokes through Bart's shirt and sticks into the wall, leaving Bart hanging by his shirt. But just as Doug is about to kill Bart, Homer sneaks up behind him and, to avenge Snowball I and John F. Kennedy, smashes a bowling ball on Doug's head. This kills Doug and creates a world without death. Homer dumps out the body in a trash can, but keeps the robe. When Homer puts on the robe, he becomes the new Grim Reaper. Homer at first refuses to be the new reaper, but when the robe grabs at his crotch he agrees.

We learn about the old Grim Reaper's name from Jasper. When Homer shows up to kill him, Jasper asks "Where's the regular guy? Where's Doug?"
7. During which "Treehouse of Horror" do we get a parody of "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?"

Answer: XIX

"It's The Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse," was the final segment of "Treehouse of Horror XIX." In that episode, Bart is Charlie Brown, Lisa is Sally, and Milhouse is Linus (so shouldn't the segment have been titled "It's The Grand Pumpkin, Bart" rather than "It's The Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse?"). Most of the people in Springfield go to a Halloween party, but Milhouse decides to skip it to wait for The Grand Pumpkin. Lisa at first decides to wait with Milhouse, but after much time has passed, Lisa gets furious and leaves Milhouse and goes to the party. Milhouse holds out faith, and eventually, he grabs onto a pumpkin and cries on it.

His tears make the pumpkin huge, and it comes to life, saying that Milhouse's child-like faith made him real. Milhouse then offers him some pumpkin bread.

The Grand Pumpkin eats the bread, thinking that it was made for pumpkins. Milhouse then makes the mistake of revealing that it was actually made FROM pumpkins (Milhouse, why did you do that?). The Grand Pumpkin then screams "REVENGE!" and then goes to the Halloween party to kill everyone there. Lisa then tells Milhouse about Tom Turkey, basically the Thanksgiving equivalent of the Easter Bunny and, well, the Grand Pumpkin. Milhouse then begs for Tom Turkey to appear. Tom Turkey appears and the shoots the Grand Pumpkin, but the surviving kids' joy is short-lived when Bart and Milhouse stupidly tell Tom Turkey that humans eat turkeys. Tom Turkey then does what the Grand Pumpkin did, he screams "REVENGE!" and kills everyone he can.
8. "Treehouse of Horror XX" was the BLANK "Treehouse of Horror" with zombies. What goes in the blank?

Answer: Third

The first one was the final segment "Treehouse of Horror III," in which Bart and Lisa try to bring Snowball back to life, but Bart casts the wrong spell and brings everyone else back to life. The second one was in "Treehouse of Horror XIII," when the Simpsons go to a cemetery and Lisa sees a gravestone that says "I dream of a world without guns." Lisa then convinces the townspeople to make that person's dream come true.

It turns out to be a mistake. Lisa was helping William Bonney. What she didn't know is that William Bonney is Billy the Kid.

He and a bunch of other cowboys rise from their graves and gun everyone down. Homer ends up saving Springfield using Frink's time machine. In "Treehouse of Horror XX," Krusty makes tainted burgers that turn people into "Munchers" (basically the same thing as zombies). Bart consumes one, but isn't affected. So he is hailed as the chosen one.

The Simpsons then must get Bart to the safe zone so they can cure all the munchers. At first, the munchers decide that they must kill and eat Bart to save themselves. Marge then delivers the most memorable line of the episode: "What kind of civilized people eat the body and blood of their saviors?" They then decide to let Bart bathe in their food instead.
9. Which "Treehouse of Horror" does NOT begin with a warning from Marge?

Answer: Three

Marge delivers warnings in "Treehouse of Horror I," "Treehouse of Horror II," "Treehouse of Horror IV," and "Treehouse of Horror V." In "Treehouse of Horror III," Homer gives the warning (albeit he does it sarcastically, and only because he was asked to).

In "Treehouse of Horror IV," Bart was supposed to give the warning, but he instead decides to tell us about paintings. Marge then appears on the screen telling Bart that he should be warning us about the content, and by doing so Marge is the one who warns us about the content. "Treehouse of Horror V" begins with a warning that the episode is so scary, that Congress won't even let them show it, and that they instead suggest "200 Miles to Oregon." They show about two seconds of that movie, but then Bart and Homer take over the transmission.

The screen goes black and shows a green line that moves whenever Bart and Homer speak, and then they show us "Treehouse of Horror V." After that one, Marge never gave us any more warnings. Matt Groening said that the warnings were getting too difficult to write. I personally think that nothing could possibly have topped the "Treehouse of Horror V," so they wisely decided to do different kinds of introduction from then on.
10. Who is the devil?

Answer: Ned Flanders

Ned Flanders is revealed to be the devil in "Treehouse of Horror IV." "Ho Ho, it's always the one you least suspect," says Flanders. In that episode, Homer sells his soul for a doughnut. The devil gives him a doughnut, and he eats most of us, but then he realizes that if he doesn't finish it, Flanders doesn't get his soul. At first he refuses to finish it, but then at night, he sneaks downstairs, and despite all of the notes that his family left him warning him to not eat the doughnut, Homer takes the doughnut, says "MMMMMMM, Forbidden doughnut!" and finishes it. Homer spends the day in hell, but is saved by a trial and a photo, where on the back, Homer said that he pledges his soul to Marge forever. Flanders give Homer his soul back, but he curses Homer saying that the ill-gotten doughnut will be forever on his head.

Flanders reprises his role as the devil in "Treehouse of Horror XVIII." In that episode, the kids are going trick-or-treating, but when they come across Agnes Skinner's house and learn that she doesn't do Halloween, they decide to go with the "trick" if they can't get the "treat." They pull a prank on Agnes, and then they pull pranks on all the other houses they visit. Flanders then turns into the devil and takes the kids down into hell, warning them that they will be there forever if they don't clean up. The episode concludes with devil Flanders telling the audience that "For watching this network you're all going to hell!"
