Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Once enemies of the Federation, they later became members themselves. What was the name of the Klingon homeworld?

Answer: Qo'noS

Qo'noS, also called Kronos in English, was the Klingon homeworld and capital of the greater Klingon Empire. After its moon Praxis exploded in 2293, the First Khitomer Accord was worked out with the Federation. They joined the United Federation of Planets sometime between the years 2327 and 2365 (source: Memory Alpha Star Trek Wiki).

2. In the "TOS" episode "The Trouble With Tribbles", what was the name of the foodstuff that was in the storage compartments... until the Tribbles ate it?

Answer: Quadrotriticale

Quadrotriticale was being stored at the Deep Space K-7 station en route from Earth to Sherman's Planet. Captain Kirk was ordered by the seed's owner, Nilz Baris, to protect the grain. Unfortunately, he was unable to prevent the Klingon Spy, Arne Darvin, from poisoning both the grain and the Tribbles that ate it.

3. In which episode of "TNG" did Data believe that some Federation mining robots (exocomps) had developed self-awareness?

Answer: "The Quality of Life"

"The Quality of Life" was a sixth-season episode of "TNG" that left the audience with a feel-good empathy for Data, who had found other sentient artificial life forms.

"The Quickening" was an episode from "DS9", while "Questions" and "The Quiet Ones" are made up titles.

4. What was the name of the mischievous character, played by John De Lancie, that appeared in both the pilot and final episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation"?

Answer: Q

In "Encounter At Farpoint", Q placed humanity on trial, however after this episode, he was more interested in having fun with Captain Picard, much to Jean-Luc's annoyance!

Question by Daddy19
5. In the 7th season two part episode "Workforce" of "Star Trek: Voyager", unscrupulous members of which species supplemented their workforce at an energy plant by kidnapping and drugging their victims?

Answer: Quarren

In fact the entire crew, except for Chakotay, Kim, Neelix and The Doctor, had abandoned the ship in escape pods because of a trap set by some Quarren which exposed the crew to deadly levels of radiation. Then, at a medical center on the Quarren homeworld, the crew not only was treated for radiation exposure but were drugged so they would forget who they were, given new memories, and then put to work at a huge energy plant.

Chakotay, Kim, and Neelix had been on an away mission at the time. Upon returning to the ship they find only the ECH on board. The conditioning begins to break down on Tuvok, and he acts erratically and unbalanced, as he tries desperately to convince the others that they are not who they think they are. He is forced to undergo treatments.

This episode was one of the few times we got to see The Doctor as an ECH or Emergency Command Hologram.

Not all of the Quarren were aware of or in on the abductions as it was mainly one greedy and unethical doctor, and some at the energy plant who were involved. They needed workers due to a severe labor shortage and thought this was a way not only of getting workers but of making a large profit.

6. What was the name of the character played by Armin Shimerman in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"?

Answer: Quark

Armin Shimerman played the first Ferengi to appear in the "Star Trek" universe when he played Letek in the "TNG" episode "The Last Outpost". His creation of Quark appeared in episodes of both "Voyager" and "The Next Generation". Scenes involving Quark were also shot for the film "Star Trek: Insurrection", however they were left out of the final release.

Question by Daddy19
7. ("Star Trek: TNG") In the episode "Identity Crisis", a former mentor and trusted colleague of Dr. Beverly Crusher, Dr. Dalen Quaice, vanishes without a trace and then more crew members go missing.

Answer: False

The episode where this occurred was the 4th season episode, "Remember Me." Dr. Beverly Crusher gets caught in a static warp bubble caused by one of Wesley's experiments.

The Traveler makes another appearance on board the USS Enterprise and facilitates Wesley's attempt to rescue his mother.

8. In "Star Trek: Enterprise", what was the name of the Klingon colony that the augments, led by Malik, tried to destroy to try and instigate a war between Earth and the Klingon Empire?

Answer: Qu'Vat

Malik had come to the conclusion that Enterprise would never stop looking for the augments. He therefore decided to fire a biogenic weapon at the Qu'Vat colony believing the Klingon Empire would have to avenge the attack on their people by starting a war with Earth. This in turn would enable to augments to escape and live peacefully. Fortunately, Enterprise was able to destroy the weapon shortly after it was launched.

Question by Daddy19
9. How do Quantum torpedoes work?

Answer: They rely on harnessing zero-point energy, increasing their destructive power to above the maximum capable with a photon torpedo.

Photon torpedoes are the "magnetically constrained" ones, Tachyon torpedoes are the ones that use matter/antimatter to produce tachyons, and Phoenix torpedoes are the ones using anti-gluons.

Torpedo descriptions quoted from "The Lexicon" (usflexion.wikia.com).

10. ("TNG") In the episode, "Conspiracy," Admiral Quinn's body is taken over by an alien parasite which gives him extraordinary strength. When he is confronted by Riker and then Geordi, he easily knocks them out. Would it be true to say, that Worf, with his Klingon strength, still struggled greatly against Quinn but ultimately he defeated him?

Answer: No

Nah, the parasite controlled Quinn was easily able to beat up Worf. It was Dr. Beverly Crusher who saved the day by using a hand phaser to render Quinn unconscious. I am sure this was a blow to Worf's Klingon pride.

On a side note, this episode gets my vote as the most gruesome episode of the first season.
