Answer: Hamish Macbeth

"Hamish Macbeth" aired from 1995 to 1997 and was about a young police constable in the fictional Scottish town of Lochdubh, with Robert Carlyle playing the part of PC Macbeth.
Also starring were Shirley Henderson as Isobel Sutherland, a newspaper reporter who eventually starts a relationship with Hamish and Barbara Rafferty as landlady at the local pub, Agnes Meldrum.
Wee Jock was the faithful West Highland Terrier belonging to Hamish, and was played by a dog with the real name of Zippy.

"HolbyBlue" was a spin off of a spin off that ran from 2007 to 2008. The popular BBC medical drama, "Casualty" started life in 1986, and was so popular that by 1999, it had a spin off centred in the same hospital, called "Holby City".
This spin off capitalised on the success of "Casualty" and by 2007, a spin off of "Holby City" was released, called "HolbyBlue" featuring the police station in the fictional town of Holby, and there were several scripts and story lines which crossed over between the show's.
Tim Pigott-Smith played "bent" detective chief inspector Harry Hutchinson who was in cahoots with local drugs gangs, while James Hillier played the sergeant in charge of the custody suite, Christian Young, who suffered with manic depression, thus requiring regular hospital appointments at Holby City hospital.
Detective Inspector John Keenan was played by Cal MacAninch, a "copper" who loves his job but perhaps loves the Station Reception Officer, his ex wife Kate just as much and spends time trying to win her back, when he is not catching bad guys.
3. Granny Fuddle, Dr. De Quincy and Guy Fuddle.

A forgotten gem of UK comedy shows, "Happy Families" ran for just one season in 1985 and starred some of the giants of '80s UK comedy.
Jennifer Saunders played Granny Fuddle and her grandson Guy was played by Ade Edmondson. Stephen Fry played the part of Dr. De Quincy and the show also featured Dawn French, Rik Mayall, Hugh Laurie, Chris Barrie and Una Stubbs, who played the Mother Superior.
The show was written by Ben Elton, who despite his successes with shows such as "The Young Ones" (1982-84), "Blackadder II" (1985), "Blackadder Goes Forth" (1989) and "Upstart Crow" (2016-18), considers "Happy Families" to be some of his best writing.
4. Detective Inspector 'Choc' Minty, Cousin Tel and Dot Wilmington.

"Hazell" ran from 1978 to 1979 and was based on the series of books written by journalist Gordon Williams and football manager Terry Venables, the first of which was published in 1974, when Venables' playing career was coming to an end. The character Hazell was a private detective played by Nicholas Ball, who had frequent run ins with Detective Inspector 'Choc' Minty, played by Roddy McMillan. Hazell was assisted in his endeavours by his cousin, known as Cousin Tel, and played by Desmond McNamara, as well as landlady, and one of the first regular lesbian characters on UK TV, Dot Wilmington, played by Barbara Young, who would go on to play Nora Batty's sister in "Last Of The Summer Wine" between 2008 and 2010.

Well before the 2013 American political thriller, "House of Cards", there was UK political thriller, "House of Cards" in 1990. Both were based on the 1989 novel of the same name by Michael Dobbs and the UK show was set within the Conservative party following Margaret Thatcher's decision to step down as leader.
Ian Richardson played chief whip who became Prime Minister, Francis Urquhart, who is encouraged by his wife Elizabeth (Diane Fletcher) to have an affair with journalist Mattie Storin, played by Susannah Harker, so that he may influence news coverage about him and his party.
Malcolm Tierney played Patrick Woolton, a Tory MP who made two unsuccessful attempts to become leader of the party, losing one and being forced to withdraw his bid in the second after Urquhart releases a sex tape featuring Woolton with an assistant to the party's public relations consultant.
6. Tommy Lee Royce, Clare Cartwright and Sergeant Catherine Cawood.

"Happy Valley", a police drama, hit UK screens in 2014 and in 2015 won a BAFTA for Best Drama Series. A second season soon followed in 2016 and kept viewers just as gripped as the first did.
Sarah Lancashire stars as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, whose life is made more difficult by her sister, Clare Cartwright, an alcoholic and heroin addict who is in recovery and Tommy Lee Royce, played by James Norton, who is not only a drug dealer, but also the father of Catherine's grandson.
In addition to the BAFTA, "Happy Valley" was also voted the best TV programme of 2014 by readers of the respected TV magazine, "Radio Times".

Answer: Hollyoaks

"Hollyoaks" first hit UK TV screens in 1995 and quickly became one of Channel 4's most watched shows, along with fellow soap opera "Brookside" (1982-2003).
"Hollyoaks" is watched mainly by a younger soap audience, and the story lines aimed at this target audience can be hard hitting at times, with the show covering a range of topics including rape, child abuse, drug trafficking, teenage pregnancy, bullying, homophobia and racism. For the way in which "Hollyoaks" portrays these events, and the assistance the show offers to young people it has won and been nominated for many awards.
Ste May, played by Kieron Richardson has been involved in domestic abuse, both as a victim and an abuser, drug dealing and gay relationships.
Mercedes McQueen, played by Jennifer Metcalfe is landlady at the "Hollyoaks" pub, "The Dog In The Pond" and has been married several times, had many affairs and also turned to prostitution as a means of financial support.
Sienna Blake, played by Anna Passey, has worked as a children's nanny, during which time she fed the children's mother's painkiller addiction, seduced their father and kidnapped the kids as well as having a child with her twin brother.

Based on the Swedish TV show, "Real Humans" (2012), "Humans" ran for three season between 2015 and 2018 and was a much praised show for Channel 4.
The show centred on the impact upon society of anthropomorphic robots known as "synths" and starred Ruth Bradley as Karen Voss, a police detective who is also a synth that would like to take her own life, bur is forbidden by her programming.
Mattie Hawkins, a teenage computer programmer who manages to hack into the synths is played by Lucy Carless and Gemma Chan played Mia, the synth belonging to Mattie's family.
9. Chloe Alice Teal, Eduardo Pauline York and Sandstrom.

Comedy science fiction show, "Hyperdrive" appeared on BBC between 2006 and 2007 and concerned the crew of HMS Camden Lock as they attempt to protect UK from a variety of alien lifeforms including the Glish, the Lallakkis and the Red Shiny Robots of Vortis.
Miranda Hart played Chloe Alice Teal, the ship's diplomatic officer as well as its yoga instructor and First Officer Eduardo Pauline York, a scientist and sociopath with the ability to hold his breath for over seven hours was played by Kevin Eldon.
Sandstrom is the cyborg interface without whom the HMS Camden Lock would not function, who is brought to a state of hypersexuality by chocolate, brilliantly played by Petra Massey.

Aimed at pre-school children, "Hey Duggee", featuring Sander Jones as Duggee the dog first aired in 2014.
Betty the science loving purple octopus is voiced by Jasmine Bartholomew, while Norrie the musical mouse has been played by two actors, Poppie Boyes and Bella Green.
Happy, voiced by Duke Davis is a playful crocodile who was adopted, his adoptive parents being elephants.
Duggee's other friends include Roly the hippo and Tag the rhino, and his pet cat Enid.
