quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who changed President Bartlet's wake-up call?

Answer: Abbey

When he got his call at 6am, he asked if it wasn't supposed to have been at 5am, and was informed that his wife had changed it. The two of them joked about his having had a whole plan for sleeping in, and Abbey having ruined it.
2. After President Bartlet and Abbey were up, a steward rolled in their breakfast on a cart. What did he offer to do that seemed to irritate President Bartlet?

Answer: lay out the papers

When the steward had left the room, Bartlet replied sarcastically, "Lay out the papers, yes. And today, I'd like you to alphabetize them." President Bartlet seemed to feel that he shouldn't need someone pampering him so excessively.
3. The Senate added an addendum to the Foreign Ops Bill that prevented aid from going to countries where what occurred?

Answer: doctors talked about abortion

President Bartlet revealed this to Abbey over breakfast, and started the events of the day in motion.
4. What state was affected by the melted glacier?

Answer: Alaska

The natural dam was in Alaska and the flooding had already killed some residents of a small town.
5. Abbey's membership in what organization was threatened by her ancestor having been a privateer?

Answer: DAR

Marion Cotesworth-Haye of Marblehead was reportedly going to boycott the reception for Zoey's induction into the Daughters of the American Revolution because Abbey's relative had been a privateer and she thought that was a questionable profession.
6. How did Toby know Bert, the man who looked to him for help when blowing the whistle on Kierney-Passaic?

Answer: They used to be roommates

When Bert stopped by Toby's office with one of the company lawyers, he introduced Toby as one of his first roommates. He seemingly took advantage of their relationship by manipulating Toby into helping him get immunity from criminal prosecution.
7. What excuse did Bert use to go back into Toby's office?

Answer: asking about Toby's kids

He reentered Toby's office and asked him to take out his wallet and pretend to show him pictures of Andy and the kids. What he really needed, though, was for Toby to help him get protection under the federal whistleblower laws. As the two of them rambled on about name choices for the twins, Toby wrote instructions for one of his assistants to summon Josh.
8. What did Toby repeatedly tell Josh when Josh came into his office excited about the guys out in the hall and wondering why Toby needed him?

Answer: "Cool out."

He had to repeat the phrase a number of times because Josh, in his typical way, was riled up and couldn't help himself. When Bert came back in from the hall, though, Josh sobered up quickly.
9. What did Bert say Kierney-Passaic was concealing information about?

Answer: carcinogens

Josh noted that they weren't hiding that they were killing the environment so much as that they were causing cancer.
10. When Josh asked Amy about the pictures falling off her walls, she wondered how he knew. What did he tell her?

Answer: "I'm everywhere."

This was a typical arrogant yet tongue-in-cheek Josh remark. He later told her he knew everything, when she asked why he thought she disagreed with the assignment the First Lady had given her.
11. When Josh and Amy were discussing her hazing, she tried to dismiss the day's events and Josh corrected her word use. What word did Amy use that he claimed wasn't a word?

Answer: orientating

Amy was being hazed by the staff and was trying to be a good sport about it, saying that she was just taking her time in orientating herself.
12. In Josh's office, Amy tried to lobby him on behalf of the First Lady's agenda. Amy brought up the statistics of how strong the women's vote was, and Josh tried to identify himself with Amy's argument by saying he was one of them. She started to disparage the amendment to the bill and Josh exclaimed, "You think I like it more than you do?" Amy replied that she did not, but pointed out that his opinion didn't really matter because he didn't have what?

Answer: a reproductive system

When Josh asked if she thought he liked the gag rule more than she, Amy told him, "I do not, but I also don't think you have a reproductive system." Josh couldn't argue with that and simply replied, "I do not." This was a nice scene between Amy and Josh that showed just why Abbey needed to get a new Chief of Staff. Unlike her nephew, Amy was more than capable of going head to head with Josh.
13. Though Amy made some good points, Josh reaffirmed that Bartlet could not veto his own Foreign Ops bill because they needed a win and 230 million people overseas needed what?

Answer: a sandwich

Amy wanted Bartlet to threaten to veto the bill if it came to him with the amendment, but Josh assured her that he wouldn't do it.
14. Who had to "babysit" Matthew Lambert at the reception?

Answer: Donna

Josh gave Donna the uncomfortable assignment. Lambert had been arrested in college for drug possession and was considered a threat, so could only be admitted to the reception if he was being watched by a staffer.
15. Leo was being briefed on the situation with the melted glacier and was introduced to Hillary Toobin. What kind of scientist was she?

Answer: Hydro-climatologist

Toobin, a hydro-climatologist with the USGS, explained to Leo that the deaths in Alaska were global warming fatalities, but not the first ones.
