Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "West Wing" episode 76: "Holy Night". Which journalist, friend and sometimes boyfriend of CJ comes to her to ask about a rumor that Shareef was assassinated?

Answer: Danny

This episode takes place two days before Christmas (hence the title). Danny Concannon arrives dressed as Santa Clause, and surprises CJ with a kiss. Things then get serious when he approaches her with a rumor that the US ordered the killing of the Qumari ambassador, which came from someone he met who had been in Bermuda at the time of Sharif's death.
2. "West Wing" episode 76: "Holy Night". In this eventful season premiere, Zoey introduces her new boyfriend. Where does he come from?

Answer: France

Jean-Paul meets the President and also Zoey's ex-boyfriend Charlie (who is unsurprisingly not happy to meet him). Zoey wants Jean-Paul to spend Christmas with the family and is intending to ask her father. We also meet Toby Zeigler's father in this episode, a man who he has been estranged with for some time due to his criminal past.
3. "West Wing" episode 77: "Guns Not Butter". Josh spends much of this episode trying to win a single vote to get a foreign aid bill passed. Does he succeed?

Answer: No

The vote is lost because the President refuses Senator Hoebuck's request to include $115,000 for a study into the power of prayer. This episode also has an amusing side story about a photo opportunity with a cow to promote foreign aid, which in the end gets confused and includes a goat instead.
4. "West Wing" episode 78: "The Long Goodbye". Which character spends much of this episode dealing with their father's deterioration from Alzheimer's Disease?

Answer: CJ

CJ is invited back to her 20th year school reunion in Dayton, Ohio to give a speech. Her father, a former teacher, is struggling to cope with his illness and CJ is very concerned that he no longer has the support of his wife, who has left him. She ends up leaving before she can finish her speech due to an emergency at the White House.
5. "West Wing" episode 79: "Inauguration Part I". Which African country (existing only in the world of "West Wing") features in this episode when it is discovered that genocide is happening there?

Answer: Khundu

The Khundu situation complicates Bartlet's preparation for his inauguration speech as he and his staff struggle to come up with an appropriate response. In a strange side-story, it is discovered that the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court has been writing some of his summary judgments in poetic verse.
6. "West Wing" episode 80: "Inauguration Part II". Which character is formally given Sam's old job in this episode?

Answer: Will

Much to his surprise, Will is offered the Deputy Communications Director job by the President, who is clearly pleased with his work on the inauguration speech. In a very memorable exchange, Bartlet says to Will that he tells everyone to promise to "never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed citizens can change the world".

When prompted why this is the case, Will responds: "it's the only thing that ever has".
7. "West Wing" episode 81: "The California 47th". In a very eventful episode, which of the following things does NOT happen?

Answer: Sam wins the election

The California 47th campaign is in its final week, but isn't going well. Charlie and Toby get into a fight with some hecklers at a bar, and are arrested (but later released) for assault. Donna takes a meeting with a man called Ivan Perez, who later turns out to be a member of the Communist Party. Back at the White House, all of Will's staff have quit except his interns.
8. "West Wing" episode 82: "Red Haven's on Fire". Which love interest of Josh's takes a job working for Mrs Bartlet in this episode?

Answer: Amy

Amy's new position as First Lady's Chief of Staff causes immediate tension for Josh when she uses her influence to redirect funding. Also in this episode, a hostage situation develops in Ghana, which ends badly when the US military base is attacked following the rescue.
9. "West Wing" episode 83: "Privateers". It is revealed in this episode that Mrs Bartlet has a distant relative who was a pirate.

Answer: True

The First Lady's membership of the Daughters of the American Revolution is at risk due to this relative. Amy dreams up a solution: to give the socialite who is opposing the membership a fake award. They amusingly name the award the "Francis Scott Key key".
10. "West Wing" episode 84: "Angel Maintenance". Where does the President spend most of this episode after an apparent technical malfunction?

Answer: Air Force One

On a flight back from Manila, which has already lasted 18 hours, Air Force One's indicator light comes on, which may mean the landing gear has malfunctioned. This causes the plane to stay in the air for the remainder of the episode while everyone in the air (and on the ground) is concerned about it being tampered with. In the end it is resolved as a simple error of the indicator light.
11. "West Wing" episode 85: "Evidence of Things Not Seen". Three shots are fired at the White House in the episode. Which room's windows do the bullets hit?

Answer: The press room

CJ, Toby and Will are in the room at the time, but are not hurt. Josh in is the Roosevelt Room interviewing Joe Quincy, a candidate for a job as a White House counselor. Bartlet is in the Oval Office speaking to the Russian President on the phone, a call which he has to interrupt due to the unfolding drama.
12. "West Wing" episode 86: "Life on Mars". Which high-profile member of the US Government resigns in this episode?

Answer: The Vice President

New West Wing staff member Joe Quincy unravels an affair that the VP has been having with a socialite, Helen Baldwin, which starts with a seemingly benign rumor about there being evidence of life on Mars. The story takes place in flashback, with the arrival of the VP's resignation letter at the start.
13. "West Wing" episode 87: "Commencement". Charlie reveals that he and Zoey made a promise to each other to dig up a bottle of champagne after her graduation, but isn't sure if she will turn up. Do they both end up going to the agreed place?

Answer: Yes

Charlie and Zoey spend some time together at the arboretum after drinking the champagne, but she ends up going to her party with Jean-Paul. In a dramatic end to the episode, Zoey goes missing from the nightclub when one of her agents is killed.
14. "West Wing" episode 88: "Twenty-Five. Toby visits his new twins; what do they end up being?

Answer: A boy and a girl

They name them Huck and Molly, the latter being after the agent who was killed while protecting Zoey. Toby's love for his new kids convinces him that Bartlet should not be making presidential decisions while he is dealing with a kidnapped child.
15. "West Wing" episode 88: "Twenty-Five". Who is sworn in as acting President at the end of this episode?

Answer: The Speaker of the House

In the unfolding drama, Bartlet decides it is best to invoke Article 25 of the Constitution to replace himself as President while the search for his daughter continues. Republican Speaker Glenallen Walken is sworn in because the Vice President has resigned and has not yet been replaced.
