Question 1 of 10
1. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot." - Albert Einstein

Lost on the backroads as they attempt to get to Los Angeles, U.S. Marshal Jack Carter and his "prisoner"/daughter, Zoe, soon discover the truth of Einstein's words, which open this pilot episode. Just before swerving off the road to avoid a dog, what unusual sight does Zoe see traveling in the opposite direction?
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. With quirky inhabitants and strange goings-on at every turn, the Carters begin to feel like they've entered the Twilight Zone. Having walked into town, they first visit the Sheriff's office, where the U.S. Marshal intends to put Zoe under lock and key. Eureka's overzealous deputy wastes no time tackling him when she sees that he carries a gun. What is her name? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Sheriff Cobb and his deputy attempt to call the local mechanic, Henry Deacon, to assist with Jack's car, but Henry's a little busy blowing the roof off of his garage! Later, while getting Jack's car out of the trees, Henry tells Jack that the towing business is only a hobby; he used to be an engineer who worked on what? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Walter Perkins, who had been seen engaging in some dubious experimentation, and his family are leaving town in their RV. While Walter's son Brian is in the RV, the vehicle is hit by a destructive anomaly and Brian goes missing. The seemingly bumbling Marshal, quite unwelcome at the accident scene, here meets Allison Blake, agent of what? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. During his stay in Eureka, Jack takes up residence at Beverly Barlowe's Bed & Breakfast - an establishment just as unusual as the rest of the town. What "side job" of Beverly's involves some high-brow clients, possibly even the President himself? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Allison Blake takes Jack to the primary reason for Eureka's existence: Global Dynamics (GD), a scientific laboratory where some of the world's greatest military inventions were created. With extreme security in place, including a dangerous-looking entrance that concerns Jack, GD is even more advanced than the supposed Area 51. When was Global Dynamics founded? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Anomalies like the one that hit the Perkins' RV begin to occur around Eureka, nearly resulting in Sheriff Cobb's death and causing a field with several grazing cattle to be freeze-dried and rapidly aged. The next site to be hit is what popular Eureka hangout, run by Vincent? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. After tracing the anomalies to the point of origin, the cause is determined to be a device built by Walter Perkins, who had some mysterious help in creating it. Due to a collision of hypothetical particles, the timeline is beginning to unravel, hence the destruction happening around Eureka. What are these particles called? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. To stop time from unraveling, another collision needs to occur to cancel out the one Walter caused. Unfortunately, the blackboard containing the necessary formula was partially destroyed. Carter, however, recognizes it and knows where he has seen it before. Whom does he ask to finish the formula? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. The world having been saved (and their car fixed), the Carters depart Eureka. Back in his office, though, Marshal Carter receives a surprise promotion - one that will require him to return to the quirky town. What is his new job? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot." - Albert Einstein Lost on the backroads as they attempt to get to Los Angeles, U.S. Marshal Jack Carter and his "prisoner"/daughter, Zoe, soon discover the truth of Einstein's words, which open this pilot episode. Just before swerving off the road to avoid a dog, what unusual sight does Zoe see traveling in the opposite direction?

Answer: Themselves

Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) is a very average man among Eureka's brainiacs, but his simple and unscientific way of looking at things often proves very useful when Eureka is facing a crisis. Separated from his wife and with a history of devoting more time to work than family, Jack has a rocky relationship with his teenage daughter Zoe (Jordan Hinson), the "juvenile delinquent." Their brief stay in Eureka, though, begins to heal the rift between them, Jack even offering Zoe an apology for past wrongs as they are leaving town.

The strange phenomenon Zoe saw on the backroads to Eureka, meeting themselves in a passing car, is never explained further.

Answer: Jo Lupo

After introducing himself as a U.S. Marshal, Carter makes up-close and personal acquaintance with Jo Lupo (Erica Cerra) when she sees his gun and tackles him to the ground, only letting him up after checking his credentials for herself. What a fine way to meet your future boss! For most of the episode, Carter leaves Zoe locked up in the jail under the initially reluctant guard of gun-crazed deputy Jo, formerly of the U.S. Army's Special Forces. Jo and Zoe eventually become friends, though, Zoe even helping Jo search the singles ads for a suitable match.

Answer: Space shuttles

Henry Deacon (Joe Morton) seems to do a little of everything in Eureka, especially when it comes to fixing things. His garage is often the site of anything but car repairs! When Henry tells Jack about his former job as an engineer, Jack's first thought is trains - but nothing so mundane, it was actually space shuttles.

In the course of this episode, Henry fixes Jack's car, creates a pair of prosthetic legs for Sheriff Cobb, and plays a crucial role in repairing the linear damage caused by Walter Perkins' tachyon accelerator.

When Jack's car is returned to him, he is cryptically warned to "keep it on the ground" - it's been repaired in typical high-tech Eureka style!

Answer: Department of Defense

The first impressions Carter makes here are less than stellar - stepping in a puddle of mud and dropping his coat on the ground, thinking someone was there to catch it, make him look a bit clumsy. But, as he tells Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), he has "done this before"! After brilliantly analyzing a "chocolate" clue at the accident scene (then revealing the source of his information, the nearby candy wrapper), he realizes what no one else did: Brian Perkins is safe and sound, and was hiding on the RV the entire time. Agent Allison Blake of the DoD is forced to reevaluate Carter, and after Sheriff Cobb is put out of commission by the destructive anomaly that hit his home, Allison looks to Carter to fill in.
5. During his stay in Eureka, Jack takes up residence at Beverly Barlowe's Bed & Breakfast - an establishment just as unusual as the rest of the town. What "side job" of Beverly's involves some high-brow clients, possibly even the President himself?

Answer: Psychotherapist

When Carter arrives at the Bed & Breakfast, Beverly (Debrah Farentino) is seeing off a client in a mysterious, black helicopter belonging to the U.S. Government. She prefers the term psychotherapist to shrink, and claims her clients include "diplomats, dignitaries, even a few presidents." However, her secret agenda is revealed at the end of the episode during a counseling session with Susan Perkins, wife of Walter (who is presumed dead). Susan expresses concern over the "help" Walter had in building the tachyon accelerator; after administering a fatal cup of tea, Beverly reveals that she and whoever she works for chose Walter for this project, and would now have to start over. Setting up the scene with a bottle of pills, Beverly calls Deputy Lupo and reports Susan's "suicide."

Answer: During World War II

As technology ravaged the world during World War II, Albert Einstein conceived of a peaceful place where, according to Allison, "the world's greatest thinkers could live and work," advancing science beyond anyone's wildest dreams and taking charge of the future. President Truman agreed to this proposal, and the almost Utopian town of Eureka was created in the Pacific Northwest, though its existence would remain a secret. Before being allowed entrance to the facility where Eureka's inhabitants would put their genius to use, Carter signs an agreement stating that he would be charged with treason if he reveals anything he sees there. Carter having made a wisecrack about being taken to Area 51, Allison says that "Area 51 wishes they had our security"! Global Dynamics' security involves driving across a bridge that appears to be missing a middle section - holographic security measures.

Answer: Diner

Vincent's diner is later identified as Cafe Diem (a play on Carpe Diem, "seize the day"). Vincent (Christopher Gauthier) can serve whatever your heart desires - even Jo's order of "one Fugu-sashi, one cheeseburger, and a side order of salt-crusted yams and shaved white truffles to go" isn't tough enough to throw him off his game! Vincent has been running a pool on where the next anomaly will hit, and the map he displays on the wall has all the previous locations marked.

The map gives temporary Sheriff Carter the idea to look for a "point of origin" - not of the universe, like Warren King (Greg Germann) is searching for, but of the anomalies.

It is determined to be a machine, dubbed by Carter the "crazy End of the World Machine," in Walter Perkins' basement.
8. After tracing the anomalies to the point of origin, the cause is determined to be a device built by Walter Perkins, who had some mysterious help in creating it. Due to a collision of hypothetical particles, the timeline is beginning to unravel, hence the destruction happening around Eureka. What are these particles called?

Answer: Tachyons

Walter's device, from GD's highly classified and off-limits Section Five, is a prototype "tachyon accelerator." Since tachyons travel at faster-than-light speeds, they cannot exist in our universe and have only been theorized about. So, the collision that Walter caused wreaks havoc on time and the laws of physics. To repair the damage, Henry has to create another collision to cancel out the one Walter caused.
9. To stop time from unraveling, another collision needs to occur to cancel out the one Walter caused. Unfortunately, the blackboard containing the necessary formula was partially destroyed. Carter, however, recognizes it and knows where he has seen it before. Whom does he ask to finish the formula?

Answer: Kevin Blake

Allison Blake's son Kevin (Meshach Peters), who has autism, is an incredibly intelligent child. One of his remarkable abilities is knowing what day any date took place on. Carter, his birthday 5-13-69, is a Tuesday, like Kevin himself. Though it took Walter Perkins, GD's leading quantum physicist, several months or even years to complete his formula, Kevin quickly solves the missing portion of the equations, once Carter puts the blackboard remnant on the floor for him to write on.
10. The world having been saved (and their car fixed), the Carters depart Eureka. Back in his office, though, Marshal Carter receives a surprise promotion - one that will require him to return to the quirky town. What is his new job?

Answer: Sheriff of Eureka

Although the promotion includes a pay raise, Carter is less than thrilled at the prospect of returning to the crazy little town called Eureka. His first day on the job as Sheriff begins with a large object crashing through the roof of the sheriff's office: "Jo, call Henry!" It's just another day in Eureka. . . .
