quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "West Wing" episode 143: "Internal Displacement". It emerges that Bartlet's son-in-law, Doug Westin, is having an affair with whom?

Answer: His children's nanny

This news that comes through CJ's journalist friend Danny, adds to the complexity of an already busy day. But as usual she handles it calmly and efficiently, subtly letting Doug know that he has been caught.
2. "West Wing" episode 144: "Duck and Cover". A crisis in a nuclear power plant takes almost all the focus in this episode. Where does this occur?

Answer: California

Both Presidential candidates are concerned about the crisis at the San Andreo plant. However, it quickly becomes clear that Senator Vinick's campaign will suffer more given his strong pro-nuclear stance, and the fact that the event is happening in the very plant he helped establish in his home state.
3. "West Wing" episode 145: "The Cold". In the aftermath of the near nuclear disaster, what happens to the polls between Santos and Vinick?

Answer: They are even

This incredible news leads to something that's been brewing for over 6 seasons: a kiss between Josh and Donna.
4. "West Wing" episode 146: "Two Weeks Out". Senator Vinick is treated for an interesting injury in this episode. What is it?

Answer: A sore hand from all the handshaking

Regular ice doesn't seem to help very much as he struggles to continue shaking everyone's hand. Meanwhile, both campaigns are faced with the challenges of where they should visit with just two weeks left in the campaign.
5. "West Wing" episode 146: "Two Weeks Out". Bruno comes into possession of a personal item of Matt Santos' that might mean a political advantage. What is it?

Answer: His briefcase with personal papers

Bruno urges Vinick to leak some papers that show Santos is paying for a woman and her child, but Vinick refuses to take the advantage on moral grounds. As it turns out, this is an innocent situation, as Santos is covering for his brother.
6. "West Wing" episode 147: "Welcome to Wherever You Are". Toby takes the option of revealing his source on the media leak and admits his brother told him about the military space shuttle's existence.

Answer: False

Toby was threatened that he would face more charges if he didn't reveal his source, but he continued to hold out, protecting his dead brother's reputation. This is despite knowing it could place Santos' campaign in jeopardy by dragging Leo back into the inquiry.
7. "West Wing" episode 148: "Election Day (part I)". Who discovers Leo unconscious in his hotel room at the end of this episode?

Answer: Annabeth

This discovery is a shock to everyone on the most important day of the Santos campaign. In a light-hearted side story, Josh and Donna spend the night together, and we also discover that Will and Kate Harper have developed a relationship.
8. "West Wing" episode 149: "Election Day (part II)". In an incredibly tight election, which two states are decided last to seal the result?

Answer: Oregon and Nevada

Santos' unlikely victory is sealed with a win in Nevada, a state he barely entered during the campaign. The result is overshadowed by the death of Leo early in the episode. According to a New York times article, the writers originally planned to have Santos lose the election, but changed their minds when they had to write in the death of Leo, thinking it would be too harsh a plotline to have Santos lose a VP and the election in the same day.
9. "West Wing" episode 149: "Election Day (part II)". When the election result is called, Vinick's team suggest he launch an immediate legal appeal. Does he do so?

Answer: No

Vinick concedes as he doesn't want to go through an appeal. His team suggested that the absence of a Vice President, as well as the close result, would have been grounds for a recount or even another election.
10. "West Wing" episode 150: "Requiem". Leo's funeral brings many of the old characters back for an epsiode. Which of the following people does NOT appear in this episode?

Answer: Sam Seaborn

This also the only "West Wing" episode of the entire series to feature all 3 of the Bartlet daughters in a single episode. Rob Lowe's non-appearance as Sam Seaborn was certainly obvious to viewers, particularly given he appeared in the very next episode.
11. "West Wing" episode 151: "Transition". Who does Josh ask to be his deputy Chief of Staff in the new government?

Answer: Sam

In a scene reminiscent of a long-ago event, Josh flies back to California to see Sam (again), and pulls him out of a meeting with lawyers (again). Sam asks to think about it, finally agreeing on the condition that Josh take a week off. He agrees, and also decides to take Donna along to make it a romantic getaway.
12. "West Wing" episode 152: "The Last Hurrah". In a surprising twist, Santos offers Arnold Vinick a position in his government, and Vinick eventually accepts. What position is this?

Answer: Secretary of State

Vinick spends much of this episode convinced he can run in the next election and win, but his staffers are not on board. Santos convinces Vinick that he will not allow partisan politics to interfere with his position as Secretary of State, and he accepts the offer.
13. "West Wing" episode 153: "Institutional Memory". In an epsiode all about future directions for the staff, which of the following things happens?

Answer: CJ decides to take a job outside the White House

CJ is offered a job of Special Counselor to the President, one that Santos expects her to take. But she finally realises (with help from Danny) that she wants to work outside the White House, and takes a job with philanthropist Franklin Hollis to fight AIDS in Africa. Kate is not offered the NSA job and is coming to terms with life after the White House; Will decides to run for a congress seat; and Andrea asks for a pardon on Toby's behalf (being Toby he was clearly too stubborn to ask himself).
14. "West Wing" episode 154: "Tomorrow". In one of his last acts as President, Jed Bartlet pardons Toby Ziegler.

Answer: True

It's clear that Bartlet is in two minds about pardoning Toby, and it's not until the very last minute that he signs his name. Jed takes his time leaving the office, clearly very emotional about moving out and never returning.
15. "West Wing" episode 154: "Tomorrow". What's the last line of the show, and who says it?

Answer: "Tomorrow"; Jed Bartlet

In his first Presidential briefing, Santos does indeed say "what's next?" to his staff, continuing the great Bartlet tradition. However, the final line of the show is reserved for Bartlet, who, in response to his wife's question "what are you thinking about?" he simply says "tomorrow". A poignant end to a classic show.
