Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Cave stage of the game is immediately preceded by which third location?

Answer: The Ruins

Marking the end of the game's first half (as there are eight main stages of "Donkey Kong Country Returns), the Cave area appears after the Ruins, the third location of the game, forcing the Kongs to descend underground to recollect their banana hoard. With every level taking place underground, the Kongs have numerous surprises in store, especially with some of the levels found therein being...unstable, to say the least.
2. Does Rambi the Rhino appear during any of the levels in the Cave setting?

Answer: No

While Rambi appears in four levels of "Donkey Kong Country Returns", none of them occur during the Kongs' visit to the Caves. In fact, the final platforming level before the Caves, Temple Topple (3-6), is the last prior instance in which Rambi appears.

He does not show up again until Precarious Plateau in the sixth stage of the game-- the Cliffs. That being said, Squawks the Parrot can be used in any level of the game provided you buy him; animal buddies always find a way.
3. Do all of the levels found in the Mine stage contain ride-able mine carts?

Answer: No

While mine carts are a major facet of the Mine stage, only approximately half of the levels therein actually force the Kongs to take to the tracks to achieve their goals. The truth is, while all of the levels force Donkey Kong and Diddy to ride vehicles of some sort (including the boss battle, but excluding the Banana Temple), some of them are actually completed on the back of a rocket barrel instead of a mine cart.
4. In Rickety Rails (4-1), which of the following is true?

Answer: Donkey Kong rides on a mine cart, not in it

Rickety Rails, the first level of the Caves, is the first to sent the Kongs along the tracks on their way to the boss battle. In this stage, Donkey Kong and Diddy end up riding on top of a full mine cart instead of crouching inside; this allows them to jump without taking the mine cart with them the whole way.

After blowing up the entrance to the caves, DK and Diddy can make their inaugural ride and, inadvertently, destroy the caverns along the way to the first end barrel of the stage.
5. In Grip 'N' Trip (4-2), Donkey Kong and Diddy can use which of the following to grip onto surfaces?

Answer: Green turf

The Grip 'N' Trip stage does not require that the Kongs ride inside or on top of any mine carts or rocket barrels per se, but their 'trip' is certainly facilitated by a vehicle. The aim of this level is to get the Kongs to cross the area by making use of the green turf on the walls and ceilings of the cavern, crawling across these stretches to accomplish their goals.

Some of this turf will hang below carts on lower platforms, allowing Donkey and Diddy to travel across tracks simply by hanging on and letting the environment do the work.
6. In Bombs Away (4-3), how many mine carts can be found?

Answer: One

Unlike in level 4-1, Rickety Rails, the Kongs actually spend this level inside of the cart instead of on top of it. As such, the entire thing is spent on the tracks. At the same time, the Kongs need to avoid getting hit by bombs fired off by the local mole community. Oh, and on top of that, certain stretches of sharp, crystal ceilings will start crashing down from above, narrowing the space to navigate on the track.

The closer Donkey Kong and Diddy get to the end, the sooner they'll be facing blown out tracks and, at one point, a rolling, circular track that'll take them to the end barrel.
7. What is the name of level 4-4 in the Mines, unlocked using a Key from Cranky's Shop?

Answer: Mole Patrol

Level 4-4, found at the top of the map for the Caves, can be accessed only after the Kongs make use of the key purchased from Cranky Kong's shop. In this level, the Kongs ride on top of the Rocket Barrel while avoiding the horrible attacks of the moles populating the region; a single swipe with a pickaxe will bring them down.

At the same time, a train rides on a winding track, dropping miners down on the Kongs before derailing and drilling the path to the end barrel.
8. What creatures plague the caves of level 4-5, Crowded Cavern?

Answer: Bats

Crowded Cavern, the final platforming level of the Cave area, is also the second of two rocket barrel levels found in this stage. For this one, rather than avoiding the attacks of dangerous mining moles, Donkey Kong and Diddy will inadvertently awaken and anger some resident bats, a number of which are smaller and manageable and one of which is gigantic, able to break through the cave floors and ceilings to get in the way.

The echolocation powers of the lead bat can cause issues toward the end of the stage, destroying the barrel in a single blast if DK and Diddy don't watch out.
9. What colour orb can the Kongs obtain at the end of Jagged Jewels (4-K)?

Answer: Magenta

As usual, the Banana Temple is only unlocked after the player receives all of the K-O-N-G Letters from around the respective stage, and Jagged Jewels, unlike the other reaches of the cave, doesn't need a vehicle to be completed. Instead, the Kongs need to use their own reflexes to avoid the jagged spikes adorning the ceilings and floors of the level. All in all, it leads the Kongs to the platform home to the magenta orb, the fourth of eight in the game.
10. During the boss battle of the caves, the Mole Train, which of the following is in the carts attached to the train?

Answer: Bananas

This fourth boss battle sends the Kongs on a wild ride along the extensive tracks deep in the caverns chasing down the moles hypnotized by the local Tiki overseer. While conductor Mole Miner Max will drive a drill car at the front, Donkey Kong and Diddy will first need to deal with the moles hiding in banana-filled carts at the back and avoid getting zapped.

The final phase of the battle will be against Max himself. As long as the Kongs can avoid the pickaxes thrown at them, they'll only need to hit Max four times to win.
