Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Vine Valley (5-1) actually commences in which environment?

Answer: Diamond mine

Considering that the fourth world of the game, the Mines, directly preceded this fifth stage, it makes sense to see Donkey Kong and Diddy emerging into the lush, green forest from the cavernous depths below the island. Until they break through the crystalline caverns marking the end of the previous stage, they won't be able to take their turn through Vine Valley, a level seemingly dedicated to swinging to and fro on vines hanging from above. Coincidentally, Vine Valley was also the name of a destination in the original "Donkey Kong Country" game on the SNES.
2. In Clingy Swingy (5-2), Donkey Kong and Diddy can only cling onto what colour of turf?

Answer: Green

Clingy Swingy, the second level of the forest, sends the Kongs deeper into the woods to a stage of the game seemingly suspended high above the forest floor. In this particular area, much of the environment is hung above almost endless pits and they need to cling onto green turf attached to the sides of swinging platforms and constructs to make it across.

The Kongs can, of course, climb around larger objects by moving along the turf, but timing will be key as they move like a pendulum. And they may not be alone on the turf either; some obstacles are guarded by snakes.
3. In Flutter Flyaway (5-3), the Kongs come across enemies in cages. Which of these can said enemies do?

Answer: Fly

Heading north from the previous level (as there is an option for those seeking one), Flutter Flyaway brings the Kongs to an area of the Forest guarded by...enemies in cages. Admittedly this is weird, but said enemies do provide a method of getting up through the vines and branches because they follow predetermined flight patterns (lucky, that). On the same note, the Kongs will need to dodge enemy spiders lurking on silk strands from the ceiling and skittering across platforms all the way to the end of the course.
4. In Tippin' Totems (5-4), can the totem poles in the level actually kill the Kongs?

Answer: Yes

Weirdly, the environment plays more of a harmful factor in this fourth level of the Forest than in most levels. Here, the totems certainly to tip, often moving to the left to land on Kongs directly in front of them. While there are many totem platforms used to navigate through the level, it will become apparent quite early on which ones are clearly in the way to be a nuisance and which ones are safer than others.

Many of the totem poles will move, either coasting along large pits or bouncing around just for the sake of pestering. Either way, tricky maneuvering is necessary to succeed.
5. What seems to be the main mode of transportation in Longshot Launch (5-5)?

Answer: Barrel

This fifth stage of the Forest is, once again, held high above the forest floor as the Kongs shoot their way to victory in blast barrels placed strategically between large totems, trees, and other impenetrable obstacles. Some of the barrels will catapult Kongs across great distances while others will need to be shot very precisely to cover a small stretch, usually through the mouth of a tiki totem propped open by nothing more than a stick, or, in some cases, through the opening and closing mouth of a tiki totem looking for a snack.
6. A key is required to access Springy Spores (5-6).

Answer: True

Like all of the previous stages of the game, one level needs a key to unlock in the Forest, and the key is purchased relatively cheap from Cranky's shop. The level in question is Spring Spores, accessible if you head due south from level 5-2. In this level, the aim of the game is to use mushrooms to bounce your way through the stage.

Although vines and turf become important as you cross through the level, your encounters with them in the previous levels should allow you to focus on the task at hand-- hopping and bounding across fungi. All in a day's work.
7. In Wigglevine Wonders (5-7), the vines found throughout the level do which of the following?

Answer: Move on their own

Following Springy Spores (5-6) on the southward track through the Forest, Wigglevine Wonders refers not to vines that wiggle and shake in place (as though they're dancing) but to vines that can move on their own, bringing the Kongs along for the ride through the woods. All the Kongs need to do is hop on and, unlike the vines found elsewhere in the Forest, they'll be pulled along to their next destination (be it another platform or into a pit of death) without swinging to and fro. Wigglevines are often carried by creatures which can fly overhead.
8. In Muncher Marathon (5-8), what are the Munchers?

Answer: Termites

In the final, unavoidable level of the Forest (where levels 5-5 and 5-7 converge whether you head in from the north or the south), Donkey Kong and Diddy have to make their way through a gigantic tree on the forest floor, navigating through platform-laden chambers. Of course, it's not that easy; the entire level is done while being chased by a swarm of termites which, if they catch up, will eat the Kongs while they eat the tree behind them.

The mob's not hard to miss; they're the mass of moving, black insects trailing behind. Munchers don't reappear later in the game.
9. Where on the map of the Forest can one find the Banana Temple level?

Answer: In the middle

To get to the Banana Temple level in the Forest, just like with all other stages, you need to retrieve all of the K-O-N-G Letters from all of the platforming stages in the area at which point the path will appear on the map. In this case, the path leads from 5-2 and heads directly into the center of the map, around which all other paths circle.

The level, titled Blast & Bounce (5-K) is one in which Donkey Kong and Diddy need to use all of their wiles and nerves to bounce on tiny tire platforms and shoot from barrels to survive the area.

This is done amidst lots of spiky enemies, but you know...
10. What is the name of the boss of the Forest area?

Answer: Mangoruby

Mangoruby is unlike the bosses seen up to this point in the game. While this segmented creature seems to have no stake with the banana hoard, it will be hypnotized by a Tiki and pose a great threat to the Kongs upon their arrival. To win the battle, Donkey Kong and Diddy have to use light to their advantage, allowing them the opportunity to jump on the creature's body when it isn't electrically-charged.
