Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What area contains the most heart pieces?

Answer: Kakariko Village

There are thirty six heart pieces available to collect in "Ocarina of Time". Kakariko Village by far has the most heart pieces at a staggering eight.

Here is the full list of locations and heart pieces. Some hearts require either Adult Link or Child Link to collect them. Others are possible with either version of Link.

Hyrule Field: Two Hearts. Either Link can collect both.

Lon Lon Ranch: One heart. You must use Young Link to obtain this heart piece.

Kakariko Village: Eight hearts. Either Link can collect four of the hearts from the Village. One heart piece requires Young Link, and the remaining three require Adult Link.

Death Mountain Trail: One Heart. After planting a magic bean as a child, Adult Link can climb the bean stock to get the heart.

Zora's River: Four Hearts. Young Link can obtain two of these hearts. Adult Link and Young Link can get the other two.

Zora's Domain: One Heart. You must use Young Link.

Zora's Fountain: Two Hearts. Both hearts require Adult Link.

Ice Cavern: One Heart. You must use Adult Link.

Hyrule Market: Three Hearts. All three require Young Link.

Lost Woods: Two Hearts. As either Link you play mini games with Skull Kids to get the pieces of heart.

Death Mountain Crater: Two Hearts. Either Link can get these.

Goron City: One Heart. Either Link can get this.

Lake Hylia: Three Hearts. Young Link must catch a ten pound fish. Adult Link must get the other two pieces of heart.

Gerudo Valley: Two Hearts. You must use Adult Link for one. The second either Link can obtain.

Desert Colossus: One Heart. Another magic bean heart piece. Link plants the magic bean as a child and as an adult he can get the heart piece.
2. Some official artwork by Nintendo features the Link from "Ocarina of Time" with an earring.

Answer: True

Link wears an ear ring in the official artwork from the game. He has also an ear ring in the manual that came with the game. On Vol. 114 of "Nintendo Power" from November 1998, a large closeup of Link appears on the cover. He is wearing an ear ring in his left ear.
3. What's the first dungeon where we are first introduced to big and small keys?

Answer: The Forest Temple

Keys have been present in the "Zelda" series since the original 1987 NES game. "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" first introduced the concept of "Big Keys". In "Ocarina of Time", we do not see big keys until the first dungeon that Adult Link must face: the Forest Temple. The previous three are dungeons do not have them, although they do have keys.
4. Where is the Goddess of the Sand located?

Answer: Desert Colossus

There is a giant monument that holds access to the Spirit Temple. The monument is known by two names: the Goddess of the Sand and the Desert Colossus. The Desert Colossus is the headquarters of the Gerudo. Before Ganondorf obtained the Triforce of Power he made this area his headquarters.
5. What race is Ganon?

Answer: Gerudo

The Gerudo first made their debut in "Ocarina of Time". The Gerudo are a strange race, consisting mostly females. There is only one male born every hundred years. They have appeared as a race in "Ocarina of Time", "Majora's Mask", and "Four Swords". However, as Ganon is a Gerudo, they have made an appearance in almost every game to date in the "Zelda" series.

The first time we are introduced to the concept of Ganon a leader of a tribe of thieves and his original name was Ganondorf, not Ganon, is "A Link to the Past".
6. The Bunny Hood, one of the masks available for purchase by the Happy Mask Salesman, makes a cameo in what other Nintendo series?

Answer: Super Smash Bros

The Bunny Hood is the fourth mask that Link borrows from the Happy Mask Shop. There are four total masks that Link borrows and sells for the Happy Mask Shop. Once Link sells the Bunny Hood to the Marathon Man who runs in Hyrule Field, the Happy Mask Salesman will sell Link the Mask of Truth. The Bunny Hood bears a superficial reference to the Pols Voice enemy.

The Bunny Hood appears in "Super Smash Bros. Melee" and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl".
7. Nintendo drew the names from the Seven Sages from village names from "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link". What name was not one of the Sages?

Answer: Mido

The general theory in the in-game chronology of the Zelda series is that the names of the villages from "Zelda II" are based off the Seven Sages of Hyrule. Naturally, in the real world these names pre-date "Ocarina of Time" and Nintendo simply used names already associated with the series.

There are eight villages in "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link": Rauru Town, Ruto Town, Saria Town, Mido Town, Nabooru Town, Darunia Town, Old Kasuto, and New Kasuto. Only Kasuto is not used in "Ocarina of Time". All other names are used in the game. Impa is the fifth sage and is the only one not drawn from "Zelda II".

Given how history works, it appears there is an untold story associated with Mido, the Kokiri Link meets early in "Ocarina of Time". While it is understandable that there would be towns named after the Seven Sages in later Hyrule history, the question remains what Mido did that later citizens would honour him by naming a town after him.
8. Six of the Seven Sages appear as stain-glass windows in Hyrule castle in what subsequent "Zelda" title?

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Raru, Saria Darunia, Ruto, Impa, and Nabooru all have their image displayed in stain-glass windows in the sunken Hyrule Caste basement where the Master Sword is stored. Zelda, the seventh sage, does not have a stain glass window.
9. In the Trading Sequence, how much time do you have to get the Eyeball Frog from King Zora to the scientist in Lakeside Laboratory?

Answer: Under Three Minutes

The trading sequence was first introduced in "Link's Awakening".

In "Ocarina of Time" the ultimate reward is Biggoron's Sword, a heavier alternative to the Master Sword. There are elven items involved in the trading sequence. When Link gets the Eyeball Frog, he must get to the scientist in under three minutes so the frog will not spoil. The scientist will then make eyedrops, which LInk will ultimately give to Biggoron so he can repair the broken sword.
10. The name of Link is not exclusive to the main protagonist of "The Legend of Zelda". Link is also the name of what Sage's child?

Answer: Darunia

During the seven year period when Child Link transforms into Adult Link, Darunia has a child who he names Link. Darunia named him Link in honor of Link's defeat of the Dodongos who had taken possession of Dodongo's Cavern. There is another Link, again a Goron, who appears in "Majora's Mask".

In the "Zelda" canon, the name of the main protagonist is Link, so canonically both Gorons are named "Link" as well. However, you the player names their character something other than Link, the in-game text will reference the player's chosen name rather than "Link".
