Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In all three games, the Normandy (both versions) was piloted by Flight Lieutenant Jeff Moreau, but that title was too long. What was his nickname that everyone used?

Answer: Joker

Joker was voiced by actor Seth Green, and they even used his likeness. Grunt was the name of Shepard's krogan squad member in "Mass Effect 2", and Archangel was a codename used by Garrus. Sten was a character from the fantasy series "Dragon Age", also created by Bioware.
2. The Citadel space station was featured in every game in the "Mass Effect" trilogy. To help new arrivals, the Citadel had it's own virtual intelligence guide to provide directions and information. What was the name of this VI?

Answer: Avina

Avina was the guide to the Citadel, and looked like an asari. She would give directions, descriptions of locations and monuments, and remind visitors to not litter.

Mira was the VI at the Peak 15 research facility on Noveria. EDI was the AI on the Normandy SR2 in "Mass Effect 2" and "Mass Effect 3". Red Jenny was a code name for a character in the "Dragon Age" series.
3. In "Mass Effect 2", Shepard was brought back to life by Cerberus, and then employed by the organization. What was the name of the Cerberus Officer on the Normandy, sometimes called a "Cerberus Cheerleader" by Jack?

Answer: Miranda Lawson

Miranda was in charge of the Lazarus Project, which brought Shepard back to life. Once "Mass Effect 2" started, she was one of Shepard's initial companions (the other being Jacob Taylor). She was a very useful companion, able to remove any shields, barriers, or armor of enemies, while also providing a passive bonus to squad members. She began as a loyal Cerberus officer, but became disillusioned over time. In the third game she was actively working against the organization.

Ashley was a squad member in the first game, and distrusted Cerberus. Kai Leng was a Cerberus operative introduced in the tie-in novels, and was an antagonist in "Mass Effect 3". Zevran was a companion in "Dragon Age: Origins".
4. The "Mass Effect" trilogy started when Shepard went to the first human colony, which was attacked by Saren and the geth. What was the name of this colony?

Answer: Eden Prime

Eden Prime was a peaceful world, but was also a major symbol. It proved that humanity could found sustainable colonies beyond Earth. After the Normandy, it was the first location players saw in the "Mass Effect" trilogy, where they met Ashley Williams, and saw a Reaper for the first time (though they didn't know it at the time).

Freedom's Progress was another human colony, and the first world visited by Shepard in the second game. Horizon was another important colony in the terminus systems, visited in the second and third games. Thedas was the name of the continent on which the "Dragon Age" series took place (from the acronym "The Dragon Age Setting").
5. There were six different playable classes in the "Mass Effect" trilogy, with each one being either a specialist in one skill area, or a hybrid of two. Which class was the combat specialist, known for being able to use assault rifles in the first game, and the Adrenaline Rush power in the second and third?

Answer: Soldier

In the first game, the Soldier was the only class that could train with assault rifles (unless chosen as a bonus talent by a different class) and wear heavy armor. In the second game, they were again the only class that could use assault rifles naturally, but other classes could choose to train with them during the Collector Ship mission. Because they were already trained with assault rifles, they were the only class that could acquire the Revenant assault rifle. In the third game, the weapon restrictions were eased quite a bit, but the Soldier still had access a lot of combat-oriented powers, and didn't have to worry about weight limits as much.

The Vanguard was the combat/biotic hybrid class, and the Infiltrator was the combat/tech hybrid class. The Warrior was one of the three available classes in the "Dragon Age" series (and many other fantasy RPGs).
6. There were many new species in the "Mass Effect" trilogy, a lot of them sentient, but not all. Which species was often kept by batarians, krogan, and the Blood Pack as pets?

Answer: Varren

Varren were space dogs, but with bigger teeth. They were kept as pets, and many were used for combat purposes, or were feral. They came from the same world as the krogan, Tuchanka, but were found on planets throughout the Milky Way.
7. the original "Mass Effect 3" ending famously left many players unsatisfied. Bioware released a free DLC that added more content to the ending, and even a fourth possible ending on top of the original three. What was the name of this DLC?

Answer: Extended Cut

"Mass Effect 3" was released on March 6, 2012, and the initial response to the ending was overwhelmingly negative. Players did not know what the results of all their choices over three games were. On June 26, Bioware released the "Extended Cut", which added more detail to what happened after Shepard's final decision, lettings players know what had happened to all the characters and civilizations.

"From Ashes" was the day one DLC for "Mass Effect 3", which added the prothean companion Javik. "Omega" was a DLC that tied up loose ends with Aria and Omega. "Citadel" was the final DLC, and provided a ridiculous (and fun) adventure, as well as moments with all the characters from the series. It was considered a love letter from Bioware to the fans, and was very well received.
8. In the "Mass Effect 2" DLC called "Overlord", Shepard investigated the titular secret Cerberus project. What was the name of the scientist in charge of the project?

Answer: Gavin Archer

"Overlord" did not contribute a whole lot to the overall story, but was a fun, beautiful, and thought-provoking DLC for the second game. The project was led by Gavin Archer, who used his own brother, David, as a test subject.

Eva Coré was the name of Jack Harper's lover during the First Contact War (seen in the "Evolution" comic series). She died, and he became the Illusive Man. He gave the name to the Cerberus infiltration unit on Mars in "Mass Effect 3", whose body was later commandeered by EDI.

Oleg Petrovsky was a Cerberus leader first seen in the "Invasion" comics, where he took control of Omega station from Aria T'Loak. He was seen again in the "Omega" DLC for "Mass Effect 3", in which Aria retook the station with Shepar's help.

Maya Brooks was a former Cerberus operative featured in the "Foundation" comics, and later in the "Citadel" DLC for "Mass Effect 3".
9. In "Mass Effect 2", the series changed up its inventory system. Rather than having to count individual weapons, players and squadmembers all had access to a weapon once it had been unlocked. What was the name of the first assault rifle in both "Mass Effect 2" and "Mass Effect 3"?

Answer: Avenger

The Avenger was the classic "Mass Effect" series assault rifle, featured in promotional material, art, and cutscenes. Interestingly, it was not the default assault rifle in the first game (that was the Lancer). The Avenger did appear in the first "Mass Effect" (and was even manufactured by the Elkoss Combine), but it had a red paint job instead of the classic grey. To make things more confusing, the default sniper rifle in the first game was also called the Avenger.

In "Mass Effect 2", weapon names were consolidated and standardized, which carried through "Mass Effect 3" and "Mass Effect: Andromeda". The Mantis was the starting sniper rifle, the Katana was the starting shotgun, and the Shuriken was the starting SMG.

In the final DLC for "Mass Effect 3", the Lancer was reintroduced, and had a cooling system rather than an ammo count, the way weapons worked in the first game.
10. Use the first letter of the correct answers to the previous nine questions to spell out the name of a character from the "Mass Effect" trilogy.

Answer: James Vega

James Vega was the first permanent squad member Shepard had in "Mass Effect 3". He was a human soldier, and and was meant to be a guide for players picking up the series at the last installment. He was unfamiliar with Shepard's history, and would ask questions about what new players might be wondering.

He was voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr., who also voiced Iron Bull in "Dragon Age: Inquisition".
