Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Super Mario Bros. 3", Bowser attempts to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom with the help of his children, the koopalings. How many koopalings were there?

Answer: Seven

"Super Mario Bros. 3", originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is one of the most popular and influential titles ever created. There are seven Koopalings; Larry Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr, Wendy O. Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Roy Koopa, Lemmy Koopa and Ludwig von Koopa. Apparently Bowser was a big music fan, they're all named after famous musicians!
2. Which popular RPG features materia, the lifestream, and the City of the Ancients?

Answer: "Final Fantasy VII"

Squaresoft's "Final Fantasy VII" for the Playstation is a gaming classic, remembered for its twisting and turning plot and groundbreaking FMV sequences. Although released in 1997, it's still well worth picking up if you haven't played it! The journey of Cloud, Tifa, Barret and friends as they take on iconic villain Sephiroth is truly amongst the most memorable experiences in gaming.

In 2000, an IGN Readers' Poll voted it Game of the Century!
3. The popular "Gears of War" franchise was launched on the Xbox 360 back in 2006. Microsoft published the title, but which company developed it?

Answer: Epic Games

Founded in 1991 (then called Epic MegaGames), we have Epic Games to thank for (amongst others) both the "Gears of War" and the "Unreal Tournament" franchises. Their first ever game was "ZZT", using ANSI-character graphics!
4. Which weapon do you use to strike the final, fatal blow to the dark god Ganon in "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time"?

Answer: Master Sword

The N64 title "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" frequently tops lists of the best games ever created. As in many other Zelda titles, the Master Sword is the ultimate weapon available, crafted by the Goddess Hylia. It may be found in the Temple of Time, where pulling it from its pedestal causes you to sleep for seven years and become the Hero of Time.
5. Which of these items may not be used in the hugely popular "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"?

Answer: Flamethrower

Although it was introduced in "Call of Duty: Black Ops", the flamethrower is an extremely painful omission in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2". It would have been entertaining to use it while spinning 360 degrees, as "Call of Duty" players often do with sniper rifles.
6. Which horror game franchise features the terrifying Pyramid Head?

Answer: "Silent Hill"

It's certainly hard to imagine an enemy with a face formed out of the Great Wall of China or the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, so why is "Silent Hill"'s Pyramid Head so scary? According to monster creator Masahiro Ito, the triangle's sharp right and acute angles suggest the possibility of pain. No argument here.
7. In "Chrono Trigger", for the SNES, you travel between various time periods in your quest to defeat Lavos. In which time period do you first encounter a valiant warrior who happens to have been transformed into a frog?

Answer: 600 A.D

The answer is 600 A.D - you encounter Frog shortly after the first time you travel back in time, and he will later join you for the rest of the epic quest you and your companions undertake. "Chrono Trigger" undeniably remains - outside of time - one of the most popular and playable RPGs ever created.
8. Which of these everyday objects might you use to sneak past guards in the various "Metal Gear Solid" games?

Answer: Cardboard Box

It's an iconic image: Snake crouching and pulling a cardboard box over his head, the pursuing guards arriving on the scene and staring around in confusion. Where could he have gone to? Their conveniently short memories then allow you to slowly shuffle past them without them so much as commenting on the magically moving box.
9. Which of these popular sports was not playable on the original "Wii Sports" title, which shattered best-selling game records at the time of its release?

Answer: Table Tennis

The original game features five sports - boxing, tennis, golf, baseball and bowling. "Wii Sports" helped introduce non-gamers to the joys of console gaming, and was wildly popular with players of all ages.
10. Which console was the original home of legendary free-world adventure game "Shenmue"?

Answer: Dreamcast

Revolutionary in many ways, "Shenmue" (released in 1999) is one of the most important titles in the history of console gaming. Unfortunately, after a sequel in 2001, Sega decided that the Dreamcast was no longer a financially valuable console, and "Shenmue 3" was put on indefinite hold.
