Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Watery, yet arid land

Answer: Wet-Dry World

Wet-Dry World is the eleventh of fifteen worlds in the game accessible through the pictures in Princess Peach's Castle. This world is unique in the fact that depending on how one enters the level, the water levels of the stage can differ. Entering from high up in the picture can result in higher water levels, for instance.

The other interesting thing to note is the fact that many different switches in this level will also raise or lower the water level. Although the level may seem small, passing through the gate in the corner of the stage will allow Mario to swim to the 'downtown' area, which houses the Red Coin challenge and another star.
2. Alloy hat

Answer: Metal Cap

Mario's Metal Cap can be obtained by completing the challenge 'Cavern of the Metal Cap', which can be found in Hazy Maze Cave's depths. To reach it, Mario must find Dorrie swimming around the cavern in the bottom of the cave, then use her to reach a doorway along the cavern wall.
The Metal Cap is found in green boxes marked with an exclamation mark (!), and it can be used to weigh Mario down. This is particularly handy in water levels as it will allow him to sink and breathe for a limited time.
The other two caps, the Wing Cap and the Vanish Cap, can also be found around Princess Peach's Castle though neither of them require that Mario enter a level to access them. The Wing Cap is found by finding a secret level in the castle lobby while the Vanish Cap is found when Mario drains the castle's moat.
3. Large ruffian

Answer: Big Bully

Big Bully is a boss that Mario must defeat overtop the precarious platforms of Lethal Lava Land. Big Bully is quite unique (like his smaller forms, the Bullies) because they have no tactic other than to push Mario off the platforms into the lava field. After three leaps through the lava, Mario will lose a life.
Mario defeats this character more than once in the game, in two different locations in the level. However, an additional challenge is met in Snowman's Land when Mario must defeat the Chill Bully. Like in Lethal Lava Land, the Chill Bully will knock Mario into a deadly substance (in this case, it's icy water, which will affect Mario like the lava).
To defeat these creatures, Mario must use the same tactic against them. jumping on the creatures will bully them backwards, and doing this, Mario can shove them into the lava or icy water to their death.
4. World containing moving dunes

Answer: Shifting Sand Land

Shifting Sand Land is the eighth of fifteen locations in the game where Mario will be able to enter pictures and obtain stars. This location is quite different from all of the other worlds as it has no visible entrance. Rather than jump through a picture, Mario must jump through a seemingly solid wall in the basement of Peach's castle.
This location is dangerous in various different areas. Mario can sink in the shifting sands, but he can easily jump back out and onto solid ground for safety. However, in areas of sand surrounding the main pyramid and the block maze, Mario will instantly be buried in the moving sand, losing a life in the process.
Mario can also enter the pyramid in more than one way. Rather than enter through the main entrance, he can use the Wing Cap to reach the top of the four pillars surrounding the structure, and the top of the pyramid will fly off. Entering this, Mario can fight Eyerok, a boss inside the pyramid's hidden chambers.
5. Floral Ferocious Fish

Answer: Piranha Plant

A major enemy in the Mario universe, the Piranha Plants make their reappearance in this game in various different levels. To defeat these fighting flowers, Mario needs to defeat them while they're sleeping. Their tired state is characterized by a faint lullaby playing in the background as Mario sneaks past. Regardless, either Mario can fight them, or tiptoe past. Using a ground pound on a sleeping Piranha Plant will result in a blue, five-piece coin. Piranha Plants are most dangerous on Tiny-Huge Island as they can grow to much larger proportions.

As well, these larger plants will utilize their fire-spitting abilities to damage Mario much greater.
6. Cruise on a colourful crescent

Answer: Rainbow Ride

Rainbow Ride is the fifteenth of fifteen stages in the games, and along with Tick Tock Clock, it can be found in the tower of the castle. This area is found high up in the sky, and falling off any one of the floating platforms in this level will sadly end in the loss of a life. When doing this stage, Mario has to watch for fire and slippery surfaces as the slightest touch can make the player lose control and fall off the edge.
The stage features many colourful challenges as well as numerous magic carpets throughout the sky. Using these magic carpet rides, Mario can navigate the level and obtain the stars in the area.
The feature of this level that commonly sticks in players' minds is a floating ship, which is featured in the 'Rainbow Ride' stage of "Super Smash Bros. Melee".
7. Two thirds of a dozen of crimson currency

Answer: Eight Red Coins

In each of the fifteen core stages of the game, Mario must collect one star pertaining to eight red coins which will be scattered around a certain area of the level. Often, these coins will be in an abstract location (such as a vertcal maze, or in the sky, or underwater). Once all eight are collected, a star will appear. Each red coin counts as two regular coin, so they are often an easy way to get your total up to 100 coins (which will result in another star in every level).
A yellow coin counts as one coin, a red coin counts as two, and a blue coin counts as five.
8. Lofty, towering peak

Answer: Tall, Tall Mountain

Tall Tall Mountain is the twelfth stage, and like stages 10-13, it's found in the top half of the castle, only accessible after defeating Bowser in the Fire Sea. This stage is home to Ukiki the monkey and Fwoosh the cloud as well as one extremely long, hidden slide, similar to the one hidden in the stained glass window of Princess Peach's tower. One feature to note is that this mountain is, in fact, a very precarious climb. Often, Mario will have a tough time fighting his way up the dangerous, narrow cliffs to reach a star at the top. Often times, there will also be different paths branching off the main course.

These areas will house more stars.
9. Barrier boot

Answer: Wall Kick

A Wall Kick is performed when Mario jumps at a wall, then the player presses the A button to allow Mario to kick the oncoming barrier. This in turn causes Mario to leap higher in the opposite direction, and allows the player to access harder-to-reach places. The first location requiring this skill is Cool, Cool Mountain in the mission 'Wall Kicks Will Work'.

The tricky thing about performing this task is the fact that it should be performed on a flat surface; it can't be done on a corner. If there is a problem reaching as high place, luckily, Mario can grip onto the edge of a surface, and pull himself up to prevent falling.

The Wall Kick was first introduced in this game, but it also appears in future Mario platformers.
10. Floor Crush

Answer: Ground Pound

The ground pound is a very powerful attack as it allows Mario to utilize all of his body weight to deal one sharp blow. By jumping into the air and pressing the Z button, a player can use this attack. Watch out though! Using this attack on certain enemies may not work. Sometimes, Mario just can't handle fire...or spikes...or Bowser...in this way. The Ground Pound is another of Mario's moves that has transcended through the Mario series, appearing in the majority of the games that have been released. Clearly, the attack comes with strength (and a fair bit of acrobatics, taking into account the flip that Mario will do in completing the attack), as it does more damage than a regular jump. Experiment with this one- using the ground pound on certain enemies will produce different results.
