The Great Lift is literally a rather large elevator system that takes players from the entrance of Thousand Needles at the top to the basin of the canyon containing the needles themselves. This area is the first to be met on any journey south through The Barrens (and past Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Downs).

The entire zone of Thousand Needles stretches from the northwest to the southeast, and while The Great Lift is not the most northerly location in the area, it's closer than most.

Answer: A flight path location

Freewind Post is the only major city inside Thousand Needles, and because of this, the zone is primarily Horde-based. The flight path here is effective for travel from any location in The Barrens if you need to head to the more southerly regions of Kalimdor. Furthermore, because of its being run by Horde, only Horde players can make use of the path, forcing Alliance players to cross it by other means. Freewind Post is mainly run by Tauren as they are the closest race in terms of proximity to their home city, Thunder Bluffs in Mulgore.

Answer: Darkcloud Pinnacle

Found in between The Great Lift and Freewind Post, Darkcloud Pinnacle is a series of rock formations in Thousand Needles atop which a clan of enemy units are perched in camps. The Wanted Poster found in Freewind Post informs you that an angry boss known as Arnak Grimtotem needs to be defeated, and to do this you need to trek through the entire area (which is necessary to finish the Arikara and Grimtotem Spying quests in the same location anyways) and find the guy. Returning his hoof to Cliffwatcher Longhorn will result in the end of the quest and a hefty payout for questers.

Answer: Jump off a cliff

Dorn Plainstalker, found in The Weathered Nook in the northern wall of the canyon that makes up Thousand Needles, is a Tauren questgiver who will start by requiring that you complete what he calls 'A Test of Faith'. In this, you are instantly teleported to the top of one of the large mesas in Thousand Needles and you are forced to walk a plank off the edge to your almost imminent doom. Of course, the NPC is a bit nicer than that. Moments before you come crashing down to the ground, he'll teleport you back, pass you on the test, and start you on the Tests of Endurance, Strength, and Lore, all of which continue the quest chain.

Answer: Highperch

Highperch is a small area nestled in the walls of the south canyon wall of Thousand Needles and to access it you must take a narrow path up along the side. Populated entirely by Highperch Wyverns, players will only be visiting in order to finish one or two quests from Freewind Post or Whitereach Post. Pao'ka Swiftmountain can be found deep into the area at one of the furthest points of Highperch from its entrance, and bringing him across the entire area to the bottom of the narrow walkway will result in the completion of his escort quest.

Answer: Kanati Greycloud

When you come across a Galek Messenger patrolling the paths between the rock formations of Thousand Needles you'll need to defeat him to obtain the Assassination Note which triggers the 'Assassination Plot' quest at Whitereach Post. Essentially, all you need to do is speak to Kanati at this location and he will be instantly ambushed by three Galek enemies. Defeating these will end the quest and you'll be rewarded with money.
All three other options are NPCs in Thousand Needles.

Mirage Raceway, found smack-dab in the middle of the Shimmering Flats, is home to a number of quest-givers and NPCs, but despite this area's rather large influx of new quests, the raceway itself is not functional for either racing or betting. Nevertheless, you will be able to make your way to this area by following the marked path from the canyon of Thousand Needles and then through the Shimmering Flats (here, you'll simply need to follow the torches). If you were to continue up this path through the adjacent mountain range, you'd reach Gadgetzan and the southern tip of Kalimdor.

Answer: Rocket Car Parts

Rocket Car Parts are rather large and can be spotted from rather long distances. This quest can be completed across the entire Shimmering Flats amongst others (which usually involve all of the enemies found in the area). Slithids can be found in the southwest region of Shimmering Flats guarding the underground tunnel system that is Rustmaul Dig Site. One note to keep in mind here is the fact that while outside the cave, there is a great chance that you may attract the attention of several different Slithid types.

The only other major area in the Shimmering Flats to note is Weazel's Crater, a rather large pothole in the northern half of the region containing a number of quest enemies.

Answer: Tanaris

Only three different areas can be reached directly from Thousand Needles: The Barrens to the north, Feralas, the Alliance territory to the northwest, and Tanaris, the contested area to the south, home of Gadgetzan. Tanaris is home to numerous high-level dungeons as well, and while it may be adjacent to Thousand Needles, there is a slight difficulty jump from the expected level 25-35 of Thousand Needles to level 40-50 in Tanaris. Tanaris' landscape is sandy and desert-like though it borders the sea to the east.

A small village, Steamwheedle Port, contains an unused dock on the coast.

Answer: None

Thousand Needles is devoid of any dungeons, raids, or battleground, making it the haven for simple explorers in search of quests. Only one Horde city can be found (the centrally-located Freewind Post) and there are no Alliance flight paths. Quite simply, Thousand Needles is the barebones questing locale for players from level 25-35.

Heading towards the Shimmering Flats, higher level quests can be found, but players looking for a bit more advancement should search elsewhere, in both factions.
