Subject: Misheard lyrics

When I first heard Desmond Dekker and the Aces sing the Isrealite I thought he was singing Oh Oh me ears are alight. It was only after quite a few times listening to it that I realised it was Poor me, The Isrealite.

Which lyrics have you mistakenly heard? And please do not just post a list pulled from the Web. I want to know your own.

Did anybody else hear Manfred Mann singing:

Blinded by the light
wrapped up like a douche
and I rolled her in the night?

Real lyrics:
Blinded by the light
revved up like a deuce
another runner in the night

Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa. I heard F**king Yellow and then Blocking Yellow ( after I learned a new word "colourblocking::))

Judging by the reactions on YouTube I wasn´t alone:)

The Devil Went Down To Georgia-Charlie Daniels Band.
Decided to check the whole lyrics recently, thought I knew them all but no!
The line I always heard & sang was 'Gon-na be a dog fight, don't cha all know'.
Real lyric is 'Granny does your dog bite, no child, no'
Personally I like my version better, I think it really fits the song.

Misheard: Metallica, "Don't Tread on Me"---"Soviet, friend no more."

Actual lyrics---"So be it, threaten no more"

Always wondered when were the Soviets friends? Still always thought and still think it's a great song.

Misheard: Kenny Rogers "Lucille"---"400 children and a crop in the field."

Actual: "Four HUNGRY children..."

My wife says she thought the same thing as a kid. I remember thinking...no wonder she left him...400 children!? The woman must be in constant pain!

My hairdresser, who is a tad scatty at times, thought that Meatloaf, when singing 'Bat outta Hell', was singing...'Like a battery hen I'll be gone when the morning comes...', still makes me giggle...

Bob Dylan's Just Like a Woman

The actual lyrics are : everybody knows that baby's got new clothes.

However, I always heard: everybody knows that baby's got no toes :(

TurboTude, Bruce Springsteen wrote Blinded by the Light. There's another line in that song that could be misheard as something even worse. I can't immortalize it here under my name.lol

I work with this young kid and we often talk about his ignorance of music past. The other night "Ramblin' Man" was playing on the radio. I guess my young friend was trying to impress us older folk at his knowledge of the song. He sang out with determination and pride: "Lord I was born a brand new man". We all got a big laugh at that. Even he did after we set him straight.

With Rush going into the Hall of Fame, the song "Limelight" came to mind. I used to think the line "get on with the fascination" was "get on with the fast inhalation". Always wondered why he wanted people to hyperventilate.

Mary Chapin Carpenter's "He Thinks He'll Keep Her."

She sings, "When she was twenty-one she wore her mother's lace."

I misheard it was "She wore her mother's legs." Mom still laughs over that one.

I never understood any REO Speedwagon... all I got were like, the last 3 words... great band but, for example the song "riding the storm out" I heard "Caught in the storm, now"...

CCR-"Down on the Corner"

Actual lyrics--Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo.

When I was in school I loved this song. For the longest time though I thought Halford was singing "Open the letter" instead of "Hell Bent for leather".

When I was in fifth grade I was convinced that AC/DC was singing about Dirty Dean in his Thunder Jeep. It was not until several years later when I got the album that a realized my goof. Also I was sure that U-2 was singing about seats with no names, the video even had a helpful picture showing stadium seats to help assure me I was hearing right, LOL. Quite a few years before I discovered they were saying streets, still sounds like seats to me LOL.

Jimi Hendrix's 'Purple Haze'. On the line "'scuse me while I kiss the sky", I thought for a ridiculously long time that it was "kiss this guy".

Same here Greatguggly, sort of. CCR "Down On the Corner", thought he sang, "Willy goes into a dance, the devil's on the loose". Made sense to me.........
Homer Simpson comes up with some good ones also.

weissmarc, that's what I thought the lyrics were until just now. In fact I just checked the lyrics online and found out that I had that entire verse wrong. Most of the song for that matter. Oh well, John Fogarty may not enunciate well, but he is a great musician.

The song "Benny and the Jets" by Elton has always been hard for me to understand! I can only understand the "Hey Kids" part & the rest just sounds like gibberish to me! I love Elton's music but he can be hard to understand! :P
