I don't think I've posted this in here before, but... In the song "Hotel California," I was certain The Eagles sang: "Her name is Tiffany Twisted She got the Mercedes-Benz She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys She calls men." It still makes more sense to me than: "Her mind is Tiffany-twisted She got the Mercedes bends She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys That she calls friends" I realize the entire song is like a bad fever dream, but what does that even mean?? Then we have "Life In The Fast Lane" -- same album. I thought the lyrics were: 'He was a hot-blooded man He was brutally handsome And she was terminally lame She held him up, and he held her for ransom In the heart of the cold, cold rain" Still makes more sense to me than: "He was a hard-headed man He was brutally handsome And she was terminally pretty She held him up, and he held her for ransom In the heart of the cold, cold city" Terminally pretty? They were both terminally lame! And probably terminally unique. "They didn't care, they were just dying to get off." Reply #182. Aug 01 19, 8:49 AM |

"Definitely Twisted" makes the most sense of all! I know I have more of these -- I just have to have one pop up. "Wrong Lyrics" are more fun to me than "Actual Lyrics." Reply #185. Aug 29 19, 5:20 AM |

"Hold me closer, Tony Danza. Count the head lice on the highway." Ahyuk! I think it's really funny that there are quizzes around here that mention something about Elton John sounding like he's singing "Tony Danza" instead of Tiny Dancer. It always sounded to me like he was saying "tiny dancer" from the very first time I ever heard it. I've already mentioned all my favorites that I can think of, but there is this one tune that has been forever changed for me because of someone else's misunderstanding of the lyrics. It's that Secret Agent Man song from the 60s. I always forget who did that thing, but I'm pretty confident that you guys have heard it. I never can remember much of the words either, but they talk about how the secret agent man "lives a life of danger" and "odds are he won't live to see tomorrow" and all that. Anyway, I was at this discount store one day just picking up a few things and this song was playing over there intercom. Suddenly one of the store employees pops up and he's asking me "What are they saying right there in this song? Are they saying 'secret Asian man?'" Ahaw haw! It almost doubled me over, but from that moment onward, that song will forever be "Secret Asian Man" to me, I will not dare sing along to it any other way than that, and as I do sing along to it, I will always think about Jackie Chan. :-) Reply #187. It always sounded like Tiny Dancer to me, too, until I heard Phoebe Buffay on "Friends" talk about "Tony Danza," and then I could unhear it. I do still love that she told Ross and Rachel (maybe she only told one of them...) that "He/She's your lobster!" And... apparently, it's both: “She's your lobster. C'mon you guys. It's a known fact that lobsters fall in love and mate for life. You can actually see old lobster couples, walking around their tank, you know, holding claws... See? He's her lobster!” Reply #188. I didn't misunderstand these Taylor Swift lyrics, but I do know a lot of people did! In the song Blank Space, she sings: "Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane" But the way she enunciates, it sounds like "All the lonely Starbucks lovers They'll tell you I'm insane" People were clamoring to figure out who those "Starbucks lovers" were and why they might think she was insane. Too much caffeine, maybe? Reply #190. Aug 29 19, 9:01 AM |

"Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" by Elton John I always thought he said: "And can you feel the love tonight? How it's laid to rest? It's enough to make Kings and vagabonds Leave the very best!" Actually, he sings: "And can you feel the love tonight? How it's laid to rest? It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best" Neither set of these lyrics make any sense to me, and I do understand that Elton John doesn't write the lyrics; he writes the music. So thank goodness for Bernie, on all our accounts, including Elton. But how can you feel the love tonight, and how it's laid to rest? What does that even mean? The love tonight is KILLED??? Or it's literally put to bed so it can sleep? I don't get it. Kings and vagabonds leaving the very best still makes more sense to me, while nothing in this song really makes sense, at all. And... Tim Rice wrote the lyrics to "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" not Bernie Taupin. Sorry, Tim and Bernie, for the mix-up. I still don't understand those lyrics, though. Reply #192. Sep 11 19, 3:20 PM |

My wild and crazy Elle pal has returned! :-) Nice to see you, Elle. I was really taken by surprise quite a bit when I discovered the actual words to Elvira by the Oak Ridge Boys. They are all singing Elvira Elvira My heart's on fire For Elvira Then they sing some other stuff and then they are like Giddy up a-oom boppa oom boppa mow mow Giddy up a-oom boppa oom boppa mow mow Well, silly me, for a really long time I thought they were saying Hell, fire it up Hell, fire it up My hearts on fire So hell, fire it up Giddy up a-oom boppa oom boppa Maui Wowie Giddy up a-oom boppa oom boppa Maui Wowie Reply #193. “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood Love this song, makes me happy, but growing up I swear he was singing, “Break me a higher love! Breeeaaak me a higher love!” (Not sure how one would go about breaking someone a higher love…) Reply #194. Sep 16 19, 11:27 AM |
