Do you drink wine? What type do you like best? Is there one label you prefer above the rest? Do you drink wine by itself or with food? Do you think one country dominates over others in the quality of its wines?

I have many attachments to Spain, professional and otherwise, and I choose its red wines practically every time.

Thanks for the suggestion, Turbo. I'll give Almaden a try. Does it store and keep the same as bottled wine?

If anything the un-used wine keeps longer because there is very little air in the box. A bottle will generally lose it's qualities in a couple of days. A box should stay 'fresh' for a week.

It's always good to keep an eye out for bargains. I went to the grocery store today, and they had Pepperwood Grove wines on sale for $5.49 a bottle. The store gives a 10% discount (and a free wine tote) if you buy six or more bottles, reducing the price to less than $5 a bottle, or around $60 a case. The producer is offering a $30 rebate if you purchase 12 bottles, so the final price ends up at less than $2.50 per bottle! You have to save the receipt, peel off the back labels, and mail in for the rebate, but it's worth the effort.

I don't actually drink wine much anymore. I think it was making my nose red...;) My favorite bottled is Berringer White Zin. Franzia has good boxed stuff. I do think they keep forever!

Popped my first bottle of Chateau Taillefer 2005 this weekend at my sister's house. Magnificent stuff. Not really ready, but opened up nicely after two hours of "breathing." I reviewed this wine on cellartracker.com and gave it a 92. As I write this, I'm drinking a bottle of Falesco Montiano 2005, a 100% Merlot wine from Italy. Got it for $15 at a local deli. Very classy stuff; I rated it a 90. You don't have to pay a fortune for outstanding wine, but you have to be prepared to do a little research and look for bargains. They're out there.

I was sent a link for a VERY amusing animated graphic entitled "Yoga for Wine Lovers". It cracked me up, but when I tried to link it on Facebook to 'The Wine Cellar' group, it wouldn't open. It might not work here, either, but I'm going to give it a try.

I don't actually drink wine much anymore. I think it was making me fall over... but I am suddenly tempted to take up yoga. :)

Here's a few bottles we won't be drinking.

RMG: That's a shame! I wouldn't be drinking that wine whether or not the accident occurred, as $185 a bottle is a bit pricey for me.

Lesley: Yoga WITHOUT the wine??? What would be the point of THAT? :-o

I love this bit "When they opened up the container they said it was like a murder scene," he said. "But it smelled phenomenal."

At least it was Shiraz and not Bordeaux.

Speaking of Bordeaux, 2011 looks like it's shaping up to be yet another good vintage. Since 1998, we've had five outstanding vintages: 1998, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010. There have only been two real clunkers, 2002 and 2007. The other years have been average to above average. Let's hope this trend contines.

We've seen wine bottles labelled Great With Steak: Great With Pasta... I'm looking forward to Perfect With Yoga.

I got a chuckle out of that quote, too!

Lesley, I like that pairing suggestion! Maybe sipping wine would make yoga more appealing!
