Subject: Newest CD?

Posted by: agony
Date: Dec 04 10

We used to have a thread about this, but it seems to have fallen off the edge - if I've missed it, mods please delete this.

What's the most recent CD you've gotten? For me, I just received my Long John Baldry collection "A Thrill's a Thrill" yesterday in the mail, and couldn't be happier - "Don't try to lay no boogie-woogie on the king of rock and roll!"

I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive by Steve Earle. Still ANOTHER fine album by the BEST country tinged rocker I've heard! Not quite as good as The Low Highway, but REAL close.

Two new ones yesterday, The Best of James Taylor and Peter Gabriel II, AKA "Scratch", because of the cover.

Seven recent CD's:

Now That's What I Call Music 89-91, imports from England. I like to keep up on what's popular on both sides of the Atlantic. If someone were to wonder, how does an American in Alaska do so well on quizzes about UK music, look no further.

Also, Flash Harry, which contains some Harry Nilsson odds and ends and Aerial Ballet by Harry Nilsson.

And last, both the Spirits Having Flown album by the BeeGees, which I got because it was pretty cheap and their album Living Eyes, which has been out of print in America for a while, but I got as a Japanese import.

Cass County, the new release by Don Henley. It's wonderful, there are no duds on this cd. EVERY track is excellent!

'Home Thoughts' an album from 1973 by English songwriter Cliiford T. Ward... Again, every song is a masterpiece.

Fragile by Yes and The Essential Phil Spector. Both are wonderful, the Phil Spector really IS essential.

I hardly ever listen to new music now, so the last CD bought was probably a Doctor Who soundtrack. The music is amazing and easy to listen to when I'm working. That was over a year ago.

I find I'm not buying CDs much anymore, just downloading from iTunes. Did pick up a used copy of "Beaupre's Home", from Hart Rouge, a francophone band from Saskatchewan.

That Peter Gabriel really IS a classic and one of the best albums of the 80's! I recently purchased George Thorogood's first solo album, Party of One. It's an almost all acoustic set of blues covers and it's great! I was a little dubious at first, thinking how could George record an album without his Delaware Destroyers? The answer is he could and did it QUITE well. If you're a Thorogood fan or like blues, definitely pick this one up!

A complete recording of the ballet Giselle. It also has Act III of La Bayadare on it. I also got the "Decades" Nightwish compilation free when I was at one of their concerts.

"Church of Scars" by Bishop Briggs. She's great. Before that, "Here Come the Runts" by AWOLNATION.

Caseena, my friend likes Nightwish too. Would you compare them to Within Temptation (if you've heard of them)?
