I have been waiting 50 years to be able to say "The young people today ......... Regarding stereotypes, I play bridge with "Little old ladies" and have found there is no such thing. They will rip out your throat for an extra trick, and they are sharp a whip. Reply #22. Aug 13 13, 8:32 PM |

34/50, that's not old, is it??? Eh? Speak up, Sonny. People mumble these days. When I was younger we had to speak up clearly, but only when ASKED to do so! Our 1 room schoolhouse was 23 miles away and it was an uphill walk in both directions, in the blazing heat of summer to the snarling gales of winter. Without shoes. Strips of wood tied to our feet...if we was lucky. And we carried 7 pounds of books as well as our lunch of stale bread and one grape. Almost naked! Us, not the grape. Reply #23. Caught my 17 year old grandson using the phrase, "When I was a kid..." last week. I just looked at him. Reply #24. Aug 25 13, 11:51 AM |

But it wasn't like that in my day and of course I complain when necessary and nobody seems to mind when I forget what they are called or have to go looking for things I have put in the wrong place. What makes me feel old? The letter I received this morning telling me I will start receiving my pension next month! Reply #28. Aug 31 13, 6:49 AM |

Just remembered why I rarely read a newspaper (particularly that one). What an uninspired article! Maybe the writer would conclude that I am getting old since I just exhibited number eighteen (and possibly fifty) on that list? Reply #29. Aug 31 13, 7:50 AM |

I recently turned 50, which isn't old, but AARP sent me membership application materials, so somebody thinks I am old. Reply #30. Oct 26 13, 5:17 PM |

Yes, but I don't remember that until someone offers me a seat on the bus or train and for a moment I wonder why? That does make me feel old because obviously other people think I am. Reply #33. Jul 01 16, 10:00 AM |

I started getting a particular sort of catalogue mailed to me when I was around 45. You know the sort, the ones that sell knee supports, incontinence pads and those gadgets for picking things up without bending down. I was amused at first, but there came a time when I looked at some of the things on offer and thought 'ooh, that's a good idea'. That's when I felt old. Reply #34. Jul 01 16, 1:41 PM |

Not getting old, I am old. Recently, I was standing in line at my local casino, and a young kid came up to me and looked at my hat, which said "U.S. Submarine Service Veteran." He then asked, "Were you in WWII?" I told him no, I wasn't that old. He thought about that for a minute, and then asked, "Korea?" For the record, I was born well after both wars started! Reply #35. Once you are retired in the UK and can watch daytime television, you notice all the ads are aimed at older people. These include funeral plans, stairlifts, orthopaedic furniture, holiday packages at places that don't allow children, cruise holidays, hearing aids etc. That's sure to make the viewers feel old. 43/50 is old. The thing is not that you do the things on the list because I have done most of them since my teens, it is that you notice and wonder when they became necessities rather than conveniences. Reply #38. Sep 22 16, 6:51 AM |
