Buddy Rogers. Buddy Rogers became the first WWE Champion on April 29, 1963 by defeating Antonino Rocca in the finals of a tournament held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. (The title was known then as the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship). He would hold the title for less than a month, however, losing it on May 17, 1963 to Bruno Sammartino.
Brock Lesnar. Shawn Michaels became the first man in WWE history to win an Iron Man Match for the WWE Championship, but he did this on Pay Per View at "Wrestlemania XII". The next person to win the WWE Championship in an Iron Man Match was Triple H, but like Michaels, won it on Pay Per View at "Judgment Day" 2000. Brock Lesnar was the first man to win the WWE Championship in an Iron Man Match on an episode of "Smackdown!" in late 2003 (which was broad casted over the UPN network) by defeating Kurt Angle. Chris Benoit retained his World Heavyweight Championship in an Iron Man Match on an episode of "Raw" in mid-2004 (which was shown on Spike TV, which is a cable channel).
Chris Jericho. Co-Owner Ric Flair wanted to schedule a match between The Rock and Stone Cold at "Vengeance" 2001 to determine the WWE Undisputed Champion until Co-Owner Vince McMahon came up with the alternative idea to have three matches instead. The first match was to be held for the WWE Championship between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kurt Angle. The next was to be held for the World Championship between The Rock and Chris Jericho. The winners of the two matches would then face off against each other to determine the WWE Undisputed Champion. Austin defeated Angle and Jericho defeated The Rock. In the final match to decide who the WWE Undisputed Champion would be, both Vince McMahon and Booker T cost Austin the match and Chris Jericho became the first WWE Undisputed Champion.
Ric Flair. Because of a controversial result to the WWE Championship between Undertaker and Hulk Hogan at "Tuesday in Texas" in late 1991, the 1992 'Royal Rumble' Match would decide who was to become the new WWE Champion as the title was previously vacated. Ric Flair entered at No. 3 and won the match. This marked the first time the 'Royal Rumble' Match was contested for the WWE Championship.
Who became the first wrestler to win the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship only to have it removed from his waist the same day? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 1
|
Andre the Giant. Most would guess Yokozuna due to him losing the WWE Championship Hulk Hogan at "Wrestlemania IX" two minutes after defeating Bret "Hitman" Hart to win it. In fact, Andre the Giant had, during the 80's, defeated Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship only to attempt to sell it to Ted DiBiase 45 seconds later, rendering it vacant.
Vince McMahon . Vince McMahon defeated Triple H for the WWE Championship in late 1999 with the help of Stone Cold Steve Austin. He would not hold it for long as he himself rendered it vacant soon after.
62 Minutes and 2 Seconds. The 1992 'Royal Rumble' was the longest running match contested for the WWE Championship. The Iron Man Match between Shawn Michaels and Bret "Hitman" Hart comes in a close second when including the sudden death overtime period of around 1:40. The other three 60-Minute Iron Man Matches during these years are all second runner ups.
Kane became the first masked wrestler to win the WWE Championship when he defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin at "King of the Ring" 1998. What type of match was it? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 1
|
First Blood Match. Many questioned the possibility of Kane losing this match. The loser of a First Blood Match is typically lacerated at the head and, with Kane wearing a mask, this would prove to be a daunting task for Stone Cold Steve Austin. Near the end of the match, the referee was knocked out and Mankind interfered to attack Austin. This prompted Undertaker to come out for Mankind. While attempting to hit Mankind with a chair, Mankind ducked out of the way, causing Undertaker to inadvertently hit Stone Cold instead and make him bleed. Austin continued to battle Kane, but the referee came to, saw the blood on Austin's head, and awarded the WWE Championship to Kane.
Randy Orton . The World Heavyweight Championship was contested in a Triple Threat Match at "Wrestlemania 22". Randy Orton earned a spot in the match after defeating the Royal Rumble winner Rey Mysterio in a No. 1 Contender Match at "No Way Out" 2006. Rey Mysterio earned his place by winning the 'Royal Rumble' Match. Kurt Angle entered "Wrestlemania 22" as the World Heavyweight Champion. At the end of the match, Mysterio pinned Orton after a "619" followed by the "West Coast Pop".
The feud between two former best friends Triple H and Batista saw them battle three times for the World Heavyweight Championship in 2005. How many times did Batista defeat Triple H with the title on the line? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 1
|
Three. The first encounter between the two was in the main event of "Wrestlemania 21". Batista defeated World Heavyweight Champion Triple H with a "Batista Bomb". The same fate awaited Triple H in his rematch with Batista at "Backlash" 2005. The final encounter between these two came at "Vengeance" 2005 in a Hell in a Cell Match for the World Heavyweight Championship that ended with Batista hitting Triple H with the "Batista Bomb" before Triple H could strike him with a sledgehammer.
Nobody. General Manager Eric Bischoff announced that "Raw" would hold its own heavyweight title as "Smackdown!" had its own and awarded the new World Heavyweight Championship title belt to Triple H. He held it for two months before losing it to Shawn Michaels at "Survivor Series" 2002.
John Cena. The first three Elimiation Chamber Matches were contested for the World Heavyweight Championship. How many times has a challenger for the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship defeated the champion in a Hell in a Cell Match between the years 2000-2005? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 2
|
Zero. In the first eight years since its creation, neither the WWE Championship nor the World Heavyweight Championship had ever changed hands in a Hell in a Cell Match. WWE Champion Triple H defeated Cactus Jack at "No Way Out" 2000. WWE Champion Kurt Angle retained his title in a six-man Hell in a Cell Match at "Armageddon" 2000. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar defeated Undertaker at "No Mercy" 2002. World Heavyweight Champion Triple H defeated Kevin Nash at "Bad Blood" 2003. World Heavyweight Champion Batista defeated Triple H at "Vengeance" 2005.
Pedro Morales . Pedro Morales defeated Ivan Koloff on February 8, 1971 in New York City. Eddie Guerrero became the second Latino to win the WWE Championship by defeating Brock Lesnar at "No Way Out" 2004. Rey Mysterio became the third Latino to win heavyweight gold by pinning Randy Orton at "Wrestlemania 22" to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Who defeated Bob Backlund in late 1994 to win the WWE Championship and set the record for the shortest transitory WWE Championship Match in WWE history? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 2
|
Diesel. On November 26, 1994, not only did Diesel defeat Bob Backlund to win his first WWE Championship, but he did it in a mere eight seconds. As most WWE Championship Matches last anywhere between 10-30 minutes on average, this one definitely set a tough record to beat. Diesel would hold the title until "Survivor Series" 1995.
Big Show won his first WWE Championship at "Survivor Series" 1999 by defeating The Rock and Triple H in a Triple Threat Match. He was not, however, originally scheduled to be in the match. Who did he replace? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 2
|
Stone Cold Steve Austin. Stone Cold Steve Austin, originally scheduled to be involved in the WWE Championship Match that night, became the victim of a hit and run accident earlier that night. It then seemed as if the match would simply take place as a one-on-one match between Triple H and The Rock until Big Show was announced as Austin's replacement. Even after being involved in a "Survivor Series" Elimination Match prior to this match, (a match he won single-handedly), he still defeated Triple H and The Rock to win the title.
The WWE Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and WWE Tag Team Championship were all on the line in the same match at "Backlash" 2001. Who left as the WWE Champion? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 2
|
Stone Cold Steve Austin. Stone Cold Steve Austin left as he entered, the WWE Champion. According to the stipulations of the match, if either WWE Tag Team Champion, (Undertaker or Kane), pinned either Austin or Triple H, the title of the man pinned would go to the man that pinned him and the title of the other man would go to the man who did not make the pin. Likewise, if Stone Cold or Triple H pinned either opponent, they would become the new WWE Tag Team Champions. Intercontinental Champion Triple H pinned Kane after hitting him in the head with a sledgehammer. Triple H was also the only man incapable of leaving with the WWE Championship as per the stipulations of the match.
Ultimate Warrior defeated Hulk Hogan to become the new WWE Champion at "Wrestlemania VI". Which title did Ultimiate Warrior hold coming into the match? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 2
|
Intercontinental Championship. The stakes of this highly-anticipated match were raised when not just the WWE Championship, but also the Intercontinental Championship would be contested in a single match at "Wrestlemania VI". In this match, WWE Champion Hulk Hogan suffered his first "Wrestlemania" pinfall loss to Intercontinental Champion Ultimate Warrior.
Brock Lesnar retained the WWE Championship against Big Show at "Judgment Day" 2003. In what type of match was the WWE Championship contested for? | WWE/World Heavyweight Titles: Part 2
|
Stretcher Match. After brutally injuring Rey Mysterio and putting him on a stretcher at "Backlash" 2003, Big Show had become fixated with the idea of putting his opponents on stretchers. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar had decided enough was enough and challenged him to a Strecther Match at "Judgment Day" 2003. During the match, Rey Mysterio interferred, allowing Lesnar enough time to drive in a forklift. After an "F-5", Lesnar rolled Big Show onto the strecther placed on the forklift and then drove the forklift past the yellow line to retain the title.
Batista. Batista won his first World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Triple H at "Wrestlemania 21". In January 2006, Batista surrendered the World Heavyweight Championship due to a bicep injury. No one had ever pinned Batista or made him submit to win the World Heavyweight title from him to end his first title reign.
Shawn Michaels . European Champion Shawn Michaels won the WWE Championship from Bret "Hitman" Hart at "Survivor Series" 1997, making him the first man to hold the two titles at the same time. Since the European Championship was disposed of in 2002, Shawn Michaels remains the only man in history to accomplish this feat.
