Sick Boy. I think this is the event that leads to getting Sick Boy off drugs.
Begbie. Begbie is highly entertaining, but no one would want to hang out with him except fellow headcases.
pitbulls. He shoots them with a pellet gun to get them to latch onto their owners and then sticks a bat under their collar and twists to get them to release their jaws.
where he went to school. Spud tell the interview panel that he lied to get his foot in the door. 'Showin' initiative'.
Fat Sow. Renton had been trying to score and had been abused until he had what he wanted and then the power changed hands.
Jean-Claude Van Damme. I believe he says that Van Damme has a constipated look.
killed in Northern Ireland while on duty. He was on patrol for her Majesty's service. Renton has little sympathy. 'He died an ignorant victim of imperialism'.
Spud. Spud says 'you cannae love yirsel if ye want tae hurt things like that'.
Kelly. Hazel is a platonic friend for a while. They use each other to appear to be normal in public. He really likes Kelly but they drift apart because of circumstances.
Vick. Spud hits his head on the toilet after recoiling from the pain and is unable to perform his duty.
Athera. Named for Ath, the Prime Vibration behind everything. Paravia is the continent.
Shadow. This is what makes everyone hate him so {much;} after all, everyone's afraid of the dark, aren't they?
s'Ffalenn. According to Wurts, the root word for this means 'dark' in Paravian. Arithon does have a s'Ahelas mother, but not enough for him to claim rulership through that bloodline.
Centaurs, unicorns, and sunchildren. Sunchildren apparently resemble elves, but are different from {them;} and dragons seem to be uniformly evil in Wurts' world.
Lyranthe. At last- a fantasy bard who doesn't play the harp!
His friendship with animals. I almost put 'his destruction of the Mistwraith' or 'his betrayal of the Paravians,' but I am sure those are worked in somewhere in Lysaer's twisted mind.
Half-brothers, same mother. Another interesting fantasy {twist;} usually it's the father who sires two sons, one pureborn, the other not.
The khetienn, a small leopard. I always thought this was the perfect symbol of Arithon's character- independence, sneakiness, hunting skill, and beauty all rolled up in one.
Neale writes and God answers through his pen. Actually, this was not intended to be a book. Neale was writing an angry letter to God and God decided to answer back through writing. Neale spends a good amount of time debating whether it is his overactive imagination or actually a presence communicating with him.
He never stopped communicating... he just does not necessarily use words. Words are a very unclear way of communicating and if people are very aware, they will hear God answer their thoughts or questions in the next line of a song you hear, the next thing your friend says to you, or the dialogue on your favorite T.V. program. The key is to go beyond what your senses tell you is communication and to "step out of the box".
According to God in this book (and according to what Jesus Christ attempted to state in his limited time on Earth), what was Jesus' message to the human race? | Conversations With God: Books 1-3
|
We are all one being and equal. Jesus was probably one of the most misunderstood beings in the human race's short history. "Even the poorest among you can do all that I have done and more". Every person on this planet could achieve the same "magical powers" and perform the same miracles that he did. He was attempting to state a similar message that Yoda did in Star Wars when he told Luke, "You must unlearn all that you have learned". Life as we know it is a cultural myth and that is what is meant by the phrase "The sins of the father are passed down to the sins of the son."
A built in law of the Universe is the Law of Cause and Effect. Jesus stated, "Men reap what they sow". You may have heard "What comes around, goes around". What is the terminology for this in a spiritual sense?

Karma . Karma is tied in with reincarnation. We do not live just one life and then go to "heaven" or "hell" or even "purgatory". We are three part beings: a body, a mind, and a soul and our souls are eternal because together, they make up God. Humans do have free will however and our deeds play out over this lifetime and several others. This is how karma works according to God in this book.
What is the name of the "region" where God resides? (The higher sense of God, since God is EVERYWHERE and this is not meant to be a trick question.) | Conversations With God: Books 1-3
|
The Realm of the Absolute. God created the universe so he/she could experience what he/she is not. That is the only way for God to understand what God is. This may seem confusing, but what would "Up" be if there was no "down". We live in the realm of the relative where everything has an opposite. In God's realm, there is only one thing: Unconditional Love
My descriptive blurb for this quiz comes, with some modification, from a Herman Wouk novel. The novel mocks a variety of subjects, from psychology to advertising to those who think of evil as nothing more than "an absence of being where being should be." What is the book in question? | Works of Herman Wouk
|
Aurora Dawn. In the quote I use for my description, replace the bracketed words with "Andrew", "girl", and "his", and you will have Wouk’s quote from “Aurora Dawn.” For the most part, the novel is a parody of novelists. It is extremely enjoyable and filled with subtle humor as well as some not-so-subtle laughs. I consider it to be one of the better satires of the 20th century, but it seems to be a little-known book.
Take a glance upon this scene. You are watching a tension-filled court martial, and Queeg is on the stand. What book are you reading? | Works of Herman Wouk
|
The Caine Mutiny. Humphrey Bogart played Queeg in a classic movie version of the novel. Wouk won a Pulitzer Prize for the book.
And now we leave New York for the West Indies. What Wouk novel tells the tale of a Jewish man who desires to start afresh as a hotel owner? | Works of Herman Wouk
|
Don't Stop the Carnival. “Marjorie Morningstar” is a novel about a Jewish girl who dreams of one day becoming an actress.
knee. He was supposedly going to tap dance through the physical.
Dino Bachetti. They were partners before Stone retired.
Woodman and Weld. It's mentioned in almost all the books. Bill Eggers is the person who calls him to tell him about the cases.
a firetruck. After the firetruck hit her, Herbert Van Fleet took her.
Elaine's. It's owned and operated by Elaine Kaufman. She's a good friend of him and Dino.
