They married in 1985, and divorced in 1989. He married Robin Wright-Penn in 1996, who played Jenny in the 1994 hit "Forrest Gump".

When Sam tries to pay for the meal, Rita asks him if he really wants to pay, or if he's just trying to act like an adult. Sam gets upset that Rita thinks what everyone else thinks, that Sam can't take care of Lucy. When she says it doesn't matter to them what she thinks, Sam says "It matters to me!"

"All you need is love". Lucy says this when she's being questioned by the prosecuting lawyer, Mr. Turner. Sam is watching her through closed-circuit cameras, and gets a bit upset when Lucy lies answering some of the questions. When she says this line, Sam kisses the television screen.
