Daniel Alfredsson. Alfredsson was a low round draft pick but was a pleasant surprise in his rookie season.
Alexei Yashin. Alexei Yashin wanted much more than the 3.6 million dollars specified in his contract.

Montreal Canadiens. To the surprise and delight of their home crowd, the expansion team won its first game 5-4 over a strong Montreal team. They would win only 7 games after that game in their first season.
Dave Allison. Only die-hard Sens fans will remember the short tenure of Dave Allison. GM Randy Sexton fired Coach Rick Bowness, replacing him with Dave Allison. When Sexton himself was fired, the new GM Pierre Gauthier decided to change coaches, bringing in Jacques Martin. In hindsight, an excellent move.
True. Yashin was one of the best players on the Senators, but after contract disputes, he was traded for Zdeno Chara, Bill Muckalt, and the second overall pick in 2001.
False. Redden was drafted second overall by the New York Islanders at the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He was traded to Ottawa in 1996.
Daniel Alfredsson. Alfredsson was named captain on October 2, 1999.
Corel Centre. Skyreach, the Saddledome and GM Place are all home to Canadian NHL teams: Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, respectively.

Alexei Yashin. Yashin would later become captain of the Sens. He was traded to the New York Islanders after a lengthy contract dispute. Traverse was drafted 3rd round the same year, Daigle and Bonk were 1st round picks in 1993 and 1994 respectively.
Montreal Canadiens. The Sens won 5-3. Neil Brady scored the first goal 0:26 into the second period.
Northeast Division. The other teams in the Northeast division were Buffalo, Boston, Toronto, and Montreal. The Southeast and Atlantic divisions are the other two divisions in the Eastern Conference. There is no Canadian division in the NHL but there is one in the AHL.
Jason Spezza. Ilya Kovalchuk was the 1st overall pick that year. Spezza is one of only 4 players to play for Canada at the World Junior Championship at the age of 16. The other 3 were Jay Bouwmeester, Eric Lindros, and Wayne Gretzky.
Corel Centre. The Sens played their first few seasons in the 10,500- capacity Civic Centre, until their arena (originally called The Palladium) was completed. The name was changed to Corel Centre after the building was bought by Corel.
