In the beginning of Leg 9, teams opened their Route Info clues at the Bandra Fort on the Arabian Coast in Mumbai, India and were informed that they would need to head to the airport to catch a plane to Osaka, Japan, four thousand miles away. Although TK and Rachel initially made an early flight arrangement, other teams took fast connecting flights (though everyone arrived in the afternoon at one point or another). Upon arriving, teams needed to take a taxi and find Kishiwada Castle where their first clue would be located.

Answer: Croatia

In the beginning of Leg 7, teams ripped open their clues and were told to travel by bus from Dubrovnik to Split, Croatia, and then by ferry to the city of Ancona, Italy. Because of schedules and departure times, teams took different buses to Split, but rode the same ferry to the city of Ancona where they discovered their next clues waiting in Fiats parked at the terminal. As a surprise, teams were given a Blackberry mobile device containing messages from their families for motivation.

Departing from the Pit Stop at the Hotel de Ville in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (in Western Africa), teams were instructed to head to the airport and fly to Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania more than three thousand miles away. Upon arriving they would need to take a marked car from the airport parking lot to St. Anne's Church. To get to Lithuania, teams were required to purchase tickets from the counters at the Ouagadougou Airport specifically or satellite offices; all teams ended up getting on the same late flight to Paris and continued from there to either Amsterdam, Frankfurt, or Prague.

In Leg 2, teams departed from the second Pit Stop in Durgerdam, The Netherlands, where their twelve-hour break had been held at the local yacht club. Clues informed teams that they would need to head directly to the airport to catch a flight to the city of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. After the three thousand mile flight to Ouagadougu, teams would need to hire a taxi to take them to the city's train station where their next route marker would be waiting. Due to a lack of flights and seats, teams were separated on a couple different planes to Paris where everyone boarded the same plane to Burkina Faso.

Commencing in Los Angeles, California, eleven teams began their race around the world from the front yard of the famous Playboy Mansion. Upon hearing the word 'Go!' teams raced to their packs and first clues to discover that they would be flying to Shannon, Ireland in the southwest end of the European island nation. To do this, teams would need to take one of two charter flights leaving LAX upon which seats would be first-come-first serve. Five sets of seats were available in the first flight and six in the second, and while there would be a significant time difference between the flights, the earlier one would inevitably be delayed.

This being the first leg of the race, all eleven teams made their way to Ireland and found a Road Block clue in Galway County on the Cleggan Farm property. Here, after tandem biking to a clue box, one member of each team needed to pedal on a high-wire bicycle across a chasm with their partner holding onto a pole below. Once on the other side, the team would be able to continue on with their next clue. TK, Vyxsin, Nathan, Azaria, Staella, Jason, Nicolas, Ron, Marianna, Kate, and Jennifer completed this task before moving on to a set of donkeys, some stubborn and some compliant, and eventually the Pit Stop.

Answer: Ari and Staella

Nathan and Jennifer had trouble with their donkey, but eventually the donkey moved down the pathway they needed it to move down. Every team passed Ari and Staella on the way down the path, and Ari and Staella couldn't make up the lost time. Ari and Staella were the first team eliminated.

During this leg, teams had to fill a donkey with fifteen pieces of peat and bring it to a finish line. A lot of teams had trouble cooperating with their donkey to move, and that cost some teams a lot of time. Ari and Staella got eliminated this leg.

The eleven new teams started from the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, California. They were transported to the starting line in classic cars.

Answer: Post office

After finding Kishiwada Castle, teams made their way to Noda Station in Osaka to locate their Road Block task, being held by this particular station's cleaning man, for this leg of the race. Here, one member of each team was required to hop into a taxi and take a designated couple five miles through Osaka's confusing streets and roadways to the Osaka Central Post Office building to receive their clue (without any help from the couple and without having a local direct them the whole way). After this, they would need to return to their partner to open their clue. Jennifer, Christina, Nicolas and Rachel finished this one.

Answer: Nicolas and Donald

Arriving in Italy, teams had the option of making their way to a specific tattoo parlor in Empoli, a town in Tuscany, to claim the Fast Forward clue which required that both members of the participating team get the letters 'FF' (for Fast Forward) permanently inked onto their arms. Nicolas and Donald were the only ones to attempt this task and both succeeded in doing so. This marks the only Fast Forward completed over the course of the race though an unaired Fast Forward existed in Leg 5 (Lithuania).

Arriving at the Church of St. Anne, teams found the Road Block clue instructing them to choose one member to be 'a good listener'. For this, one chosen team member needed to play messenger. Once they met up with a woman in the nearby courtyards of Vilnius, they needed to deliver a package to someone else located in the Old Quarter of the city. From here, they needed to deliver an additional package to one of four locations to receive their next clue. Nicolas, Kynt, Hendekea, Ronald, TK, Jennifer and Shana finished this task before receiving their next clue.

Answer: Bingo

Upon reaching the train station, teams were told to purchase tickets to take them several miles to the stop known as Bingo, also known to some as Boulkiemde, which is located in the African Savannah. Teams disembarking in this location would literally be left at the side of the tracks as there was no specific station for the 'Bingo' area. Upon touching down at this spot they would need to search the area for their clue box. Because teams landed in the afternoon, the ticket office in Ouagadougou was closed and teams needed to spend the night on the streets in Burkina Faso. All teams took the same train.

Upon arriving in Ireland, teams needed to make their way to a ferry in the city of Connemara and find the town of Inishmore. Once there, teams would need to locate a church, commonly regarded as the smallest church in the world, known as Teampall Bheanain. Here, teams would be able to sign up for one of three departure times: 8:00am, 8:30am, and 9:30am. This would denote the time of their departure ferry leaving the following morning. All eleven teams spent an overnight stay in Irish lodgings in the meantime.

Visiting the village of Bingo, teams made their way to a local school to complete the Detour task, a choice between 'Teach It' and 'Learn It'. In both, teams paired up with local students to either teach ten English words (for 'Teach It') or learn ten words from the local More language (for 'Learn It'). TK and Rachel, Nicolas and Donald, Ronald and Christina, and Shana and Jennifer decided to 'Teach It' while the other five teams chose to 'Learn It'. After completion of the Detour, teams had to run down a marked path to the next Pit Stop.

Kynt and Vyxsin, a goth couple, only wore the colors black and pink along the race. Kynt had black hair and Vyxsin had pink hair. Their wardrobe made them the "Pinkies".

If the team member didn't make it over, he or she had to keep trying until they made it. A judge would determine if that person had made it. Kate and Pat got eliminated this leg.

Their donkey ran so fast that they couldn't catch up to it. Nate and Jen had trouble when their donkey all of the sudden stopped, thus bumping them from second to tenth. However, Ari and Staella had even more donkey troubles and were eliminated.

After the Road Block, teams took cabs to the Kita-Mido Temple in Osaka to locate their next clue box (which contained a Detour). For this, teams needed to select either 'Sense of Touch' or 'Sense of Smell'. In 'Sense of Touch', teams needed to make their way by foot to the Shimojima Building and using provided cell phones, guide robots through a tabletop soccer game. Each member of the team needed to score one goal before receiving their clue from their opposing side.

Answer: Vinci

Arriving in Empoli in Tuscany, teams found their Road Block task at Campo di Volo Silvano Poli. For this, one member of each team participating needed to board an ultralight aircraft and fly over the Tuscan countryside looking for a specific codeword which was necessary for them to receive their next clue. This word was 'Vinci', a name important to the tasks ahead. After finding this clue, they could return to their partner and drive to the town of Vinci, also the birthplace of the world-famous Leonardo da Vinci, where they could find their next clue. If the team member could not find the clue in thirty minutes, they would need to land, refuel, and head back into the skies to find it once more. Nathan, TK, Christina and Vyxsin all finished this one.

Answer: Camel milk

In this Road Block, team members needed to milk a camel and fill a bowl up to a marked line. If they were unable to fill their bowl to the adequate marker, they would need to wait for all other teams to finish milking before using one of theirs to complete the task. After filling the bowl to this point, the chosen member also needed to drink the milk they received before collecting their next clue. TK, Donald, Christina, Nathan, Vyxsin, Azaria, Jennifer, Julia, and Lorena completed this task. After the Road Block, teams needed to collect four camels and transport them to a location down a marked path to get their next clue.

Arriving in the village of Bingo in the savannah of Burkina Faso, teams needed to choose one member to complete the Road Block task which forced them to milk a camel to the marked line in a bowl, then drink what they have collected. If they were unable to fill their bowl, for whatever reason, they would need to wait until the other teams had left to use their camels. TK, Donald, Christina, Nathan, Vyxsin, Azaria, Jennifer, Julia, and Lorena finished the Road Block and moved on. After this, teams needed to deliver four camels to specific people in the village of Bingo.

Answer: Shana and Jennifer

In Leg 4, teams needed to pick either 'Shake Your Pan' or 'Shake Your Booty' upon arriving at the clue box in the town of Bouda-Pelegtanga. In 'Shake your Pan', teams needed to go to a nearby mining pit to dig for gold using tools common in the local trade. Once they mined a total of one ounce, they could trade the gold for their next clue. Only Nicolas and Donald and TK and Rachel chose to complete this task. In 'Shake Your Booty', teams needed to learn and perform a traditional dance for a panel of judges recreating the moves and adding in their own creative flair. If the judges approved they'd receive their clue, but if not the team would need to take a ten minute penalty. After the Detour, the race's first U-Turn (the first in the show's history) was used by Shana and Jennifer to make Lorena and Jason complete the 'Shake Your Pan' task after they had already finished 'Shake Your Booty'. This caused their elimination as they could not make up the time lost.

Shana and Jennifer were the team who used the U-Turn because they mistook TK and Rachel (shortly behind) for Lorena and Jason. Lorena and Jason would come a little bit later, only to be U-Turned, then because of it, eliminated. A U-Turn is where a team who is U-Turned by another team must go back to the detour and perform the other task they did not previously perform.

Teams here had to milk a camel for its milk up to a marked line in a bowl. Then, they had to show it to a specific person, and if approved they had to drink all the milk. Marianna and Julia got eliminated here.

One team member had to pole vault over a pool of mud during the roadblock. Then their partner had to push them in a wheelbarrow to the pit stop. Despite Ronald's constant nagging, Kate and Pat fell too far behind to beat him and Christina.

Answer: Three

Those not completing 'Sense of Touch' finished 'Sense of Smell' instead. For this task, teams needed to travel to a local flower shop and, using only their nose, locate one of only a few real flowers in a shop composed entirely of artificial ones. Only Nicolas and Donald did not complete 'Sense of Smell' as they opted for 'Sense of Touch' instead. After this Detour, teams were told to make their way to the next Pit Stop: Tempozan Park at Mount Tenpo.

Answer: 'Tradition'

Arriving at the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci, teams found their Detour clue, a choice between 'Invention' and 'Tradition'. In 'Invention', teams needed to construct and use a crane modeled on designs created by da Vinci to lift a large rock. When this was done, they would need to place a mirror underneath the rock to read their next clue on its bottom. TK and Rachel were the only ones to complete this task. In 'Tradition', teams needed to go to Piazza Guido Masi and learn a routine involving flags. Once both members successfully completed the dance they would be able to continue on. Ronald and Christina, Kynt and Vyxsin, and Nathan and Jennifer finished this.

Answer: Ten & 10

After leading the camels, teams were told to head to the Bingo Village School to complete a Detour task; their choice - 'Teach It' or 'Learn It'. In 'Teach It', teams needed to teach local children ten English words before receiving their clue. In 'Learn It', teams needed to learn ten words of the local More language to get the clue. TK and Rachel, Nicolas and Donald, Ronald and Christina, and Shana and Jennifer chose to 'Teach It' while the other five teams decided to 'Learn It'.

Answer: Donkey

Upon finishing the Road Block, teams needed to collect a total of thirty bundles of peat moss (divided into two baskets) and load them onto the back of a donkey. After this, they needed to lead the donkey to a hitching post back at the beginning of their original path, where they began the tandem bike ride. Although many teams breezed through this task, others found the donkeys to be quite stubborn and fell behind after the Road Block. After this, teams received their next clue.
