UK 'Big Brother' 5 (2004)
Marco. Marco Sabba, a 21 year old law student, was the first to enter on Friday 28th May. He ran around the lounge and kitchen area, clapping his hands and squealing loudly. Marco apparently has a phobia of clowns and maggots. I don't suppose he comes across both at the same time very often! He was soon followed by Ahmed Aghil, who, at 44, was the oldest of the 2004 housemates. I'm not quite sure what he made of Marco!
For the housemates first live challenge on Saturday 29th May, the new evil "Big Brother" decided that the hapless 12 would have to nominate one housemate to be without their suitcase for the duration of their stay in the house. Who got the most votes and was therefore without many clothes? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
Kitten. Kitten Pinder, 24, described herself as a political activist, and was responsible for 34 acts of rulebreaking during her time in the "Big Brother" house. She took the news of her loss of suitcase quite well, and happily borrowed clothes from her housemates.
After receiving 3 formal warnings for rule breaking from "Big Brother", Kitten became the first person to be evicted in 2004. After being told to leave, Kitten refused and "Big Brother" turned on a plasma screen showing the total prize money of £100,000 that the winner could receive. "Big Brother" then announced that for every minute Kitten stayed in the house the sum of £1000 would be taken off the prize fund. What figure did the screen show when Kitten eventually walked out the house? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
£91,000. Seeing that the eventual winner of "Big Brother" would not receive such a large sum prompted Kitten to give in and leave the house as requested. The prize fund was also reduced if housemates failed the Saturday night live challenge.
Jason. Jason Cowan, 30, made his entrance into the "Big Brother" house dressed in only a leopard print thong. As the suitcases were not delivered until the next day, this could have proved a problem!
The first proper nominations took place on Day 11, and three people found themselves up for eviction. Who were they? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
Ahmed, Emma and Michelle. The housemates believed that one of the three nominees would be leaving the house, but in fact the public were voting for the two housemates they wanted to go into the "Big Brother" bedsit.
After Emma and Michelle were moved to the hidden bedsit, they found themselves working for "Big Brother". Each day they were issued with a dilemma, and had to choose a housemate who would have a prank played on them. Which of the housemates received the sweatshirt with itching powder placed in it? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
Vanessa. The housemates believed that Emma and Michelle had actually been evicted, and had no idea that they were in fact sitting in a room near them watching their every move. The pair also chose Victor to receive cold showers and Jason to have eggs and water thrown all over his bed. The girls also made a chocolate cake which had the added ingredient of chilli powder. Yum!
Emma and Michelle also got to choose the fancy dress outfits the housemates would wear for a "Passing of Task" party. What did Stuart go to the party dressed as? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
A cowboy. The bedsit girls chose Vanessa to be the wicked witch, Victor to be the clown and Jason to be Widow Twanky. Stuart seemed to enjoy pretending to be a cowboy, (well, he is only 20!) and had to be asked twice by "Big Brother" to return the outfit in the following days.
Emma and Michelle made their return to the house at the beginning of the party, but sadly things did not go as planned. The evening fell into disarray, and foodfights and arguments broke out. Six of the housemates were later issued with formal warnings for their behaviour. Which housemate did NOT receive an official warning? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
Dan. As the housemates became more agitated and seemed in danger of harming themselves, "Big Brother" producers sent in security guards to calm things down and separate the housemates into different groups. Emma was removed from the house back into the bedsit, but after two days it was decided she should leave the house altogether. "Big Brother" informed the housemates that Emma was no more or less to blame for the arguments then anyone else, but that they felt it was in her best interests if she left the house. Some television viewers who were watching the events live were so shocked by the screaming and shouting that they called the police!
Although nominations for eviction had taken place that week on June 14th, it was felt that after the events of the party it would be sensible to postpone the eviction night and allow the housemates time to sort out their differences. Which two housemates were therefore given an extra week in the house? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
Dan and Vanessa. Not only was the eviction postponed, but also the Saturday night live challenge on June 19th. "Big Brother" producers decided that the nominations would "Roll over" to the following week, with any votes already cast by viewers still standing.
On day 25, the housemates were set a new task by "Big Brother". They had to build a new "housemate" made of plaster gauze, and made up of body parts modelled on the housemates themselves. Nadia had a plaster cast made of which part of her body? | "Big Brother 5" (UK)
|
Chest. The end result was a rather odd looking, life size plaster gauze model, featuring the ample chest of Nadia, the feet of Dan, Stuart's stomach and Jason's buttocks, not to mention the assorted moulds of the other housemates body parts. This task caused much amusement in the house, as they each rubbed the wet plaster on to each other to make copies of the body parts required. If the house remains standing, and no other dramas occur, then I may write another "Big Brother" quiz based on series 5!
44. Ahmed was born on the 12th March 1960, making his star sign Pisces.
Hairdresser. He was also a DJ, sang with an electric disco band, and he did Ju-Jitsu five times a week.
Yes. Emma likes to sing a lot and would like a record contract when she leaves the house.
Mr Best Buttocks South Lanarkshire. He thinks that he is one of the vainest people you could meet.
Catherine. She was evicted from the house due to breaking the rules and receiving three formal warnings.
Legally Blonde. He is the Vice President of the Law Society at the university he attends.
Newcastle. Michelle calls everyone in the house 'chicken', and has formed a close relationship with Stuart. Michelle has also auditioned for 'Pop Idol'.
Five. She is the eldest of six children.
Yes. Her mother didn't know that she smoked before she went into the house.
Four. At school Stuart was Head Boy. He is a member of a group that he and his friends made up called 'Team Handsome'.
Two. She is very active and goes running for an hour in the morning.
He always delivers. Another of his nicknames is 'Slick'.
Stuart. Stu was the youngest at 20 years old.
Yes. There were six girls and six boys. With the house a third smaller than normal it will make it very hard to live there. All of this information can be found at the UK 'Big Brother' website www.channel4.com/bigbrother
"Big Brother" 2004 actually had its first proper eviction on day 29, complete with booing crowds and, of course, Davina. Poor Vanessa got what percentage of the public vote that week? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
86%. Up against popular Dan (the voice of reason on the night of the near riot), Vanessa left with a whopping 86% of the vote. She also received a rather cool reception from the crowd waiting outside.
On the 30th June 2004, "Big Brother" gave the housemates another Saturday live challenge, divided into three parts. The first part consisted of eight sandwich boards, each with a letter on them. The task called for Victor to move the board wearing housemates into a position that would spell out a word. What was the word that Victor failed to get from this human conundrum? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
Bankrupt. Despite much staring at the letters and moving a housemate or two around, Victor was unable to work out that the letters spelt out the word bankrupt, and the group lost the £3,000 they had gambled on winning that challenge. They did, however, complete both the human skittles task and the human buzzer task.
On day 31, a new housemate was added to the "Big Brother" house. What was the occupation of 33 year old Becki Seddiki? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
Florist. The surprise new entrant came into the house while the housemates were gathered on the sofa. She explored the bedroom until "Big Brother" called her to the diary room, when she calmly walked past the open-mouthed other residents.
On nomination day on June 29th 2004, new housemate Becki was informed by "Big Brother" that she had to choose a housemate for eviction by kissing them on both cheeks. This housemate would then be put to the public vote with the other nominees that week. Which housemate received that Judas kiss? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
Michelle. The housemates, of course, were unaware of the rather mean task that "Big Brother" had given to Becki. A tearful Michelle was stunned when the all-seeing one announced that herself, Marco and Nadia would all face the public vote. She need not have worried though, as it was Marco who was voted by the public for eviction later that week. A few days later "The Sun" newspaper chartered a plane which flew over the "Big Brother" house pulling a banner which read "Only Becki nominated Michelle", which was seen by Stuart who informed the others. The housemates were somewhat baffled by this as they thought Becki was unable to vote in her first week. Becki did not last long in the house, and was evicted after the viewers chose Ahmed over her on 9th July 2004. She had spent just 12 days in the house.
Poor old Ahmed. The Somalian found himself summoned to the diary room after being heard talking about nominations with Jason and Victor. After being reminded by "Big Brother" that this sort of talk was against the rules, Ahmed complained that he felt under pressure by both "Big Brother" and the rule breaking team of Jason and Victor. What did Ahmed shout out at "Big Brother" as he stomped out of the diary room? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
"I am not a sandwich!". Ahmed later earned himself a formal warning, after begging all the housemates to nominate him for eviction. He was heard screaming and yelling "I want to go home, but I don't want to quit!" When things seemed to get too much for him, Ahmed would grab a few plates, go outside and smash them! The other housemates described this behaviour as "Ahmania".
On 5th July 2004, all the housemates took part in a "Historical re-enactment" day, as part of their school task week. Which housemate played the part of Geri Helliwell in the "When Geri left the Spice Girls" part of the task? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
Jason. While Jason dressed up as Geri, Becki played the rest of the Spice Girls. Ahmed had to dress up as Elvis for his "The day Elvis died" task, and inflicted a terrible version of "Love me Tender" on his fellow housemates. (And, of course, on us long suffering viewers.)
The repeated alarm sounds playing into the house finally got to Ahmed, and he angrily set about detroying Maureen, the model the housemates had made in a previous task. What implement did Ahmed use to smash Maureen up? | "Big Brother 5" (UK) Part Two
|
A spade. Ahmed had always hated hearing the noisy alarms "Big Brother" would play to wake the housemates up each morning, and the constant noise on this day drove him to grab a spade from the garden and attack the plaster cast model with some force. The other housemates looked on with some trepidation at this show of anger.
