Fun Trivia: D : Degrees of Separation

Special Sub-Topic: Arthur Daley to Terry McCann

George Cole played ‘Flash’ Harry Cuthbert Edwards and Joyce Grenfell was Sgt. Ruby Gates in which 1960 comedy?

The Pure Hell of St. Trinian’s. Harry was a character Cole played in four "St. Trinian's" movies. In this, the third "St Trinian's" film, the school burned down and the girls were blamed for it. The sixth form was kidnapped, and it was up to the fourth form to come to their rescue.

Joyce Grenfell was Hortense Astor and Rex Harrison played the Marquess of Frinton in which movie from 1964?
The Yellow Rolls Royce. The movie chronicled the lives of three owners of a yellow Rolls Royce, from the Marquess of Frinton to Gerda Millet, an American millionairess, played by Ingrid Bergman. Joyce was the real life niece of Nancy Astor, who was the first female Member of Parliament in the UK. Joyce Grenfell died in 1979.

In which 1977 movie did Rex Harrison play the Duke of Norfolk and Oliver Reed play Miles Hendon?
Crossed Swords. The movie was based on the story 'The Prince and the Pauper' by Mark Twain and featured two boys who looked alike. One was the heir to the throne and the other was a poor beggar. Like Henry the VIII, who was a character in the movie, Rex was married six times, and even though his wives were never executed their departures were similar - and in order were - divorced, divorced, died (leukemia), suicide, divorced, outlived. In 1989 he was knighted.

Oliver Reed and Russell Crowe starred in a movie from 2000. Which one?
Gladiator. This historical epic traced the life of Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius from celebrated hero to victorious gladiator. Reed played Proximo and Crowe played Maximus. Reed died during the making of "Gladiator", and computer graphics were used to complete his scenes.

Russell Crowe as Alex Ross and Bridget Fonda as Myra appeared in which 1995 film?
Rough Magic. "Rough Magic" took fleeing fiancée Myra (Bridget Fonda) to Mexico where she encountered a shaman who taught her the secrets of his magic. The movie was based on a book by James Hadley Chase. Just like Oliver Reed, Crowe has a reputation for drinking and fighting. Of course, Reed excelled at it and Crowe is a mere beginner in comparison.

Bridget Fonda played Dr Julie McElroy, John Turturro played the voice of the title character in which 2001 movie?
Monkeybone. This is one bizarre movie, and I'm still not sure if I enjoyed it or not. Similar to the movie "Cool World", a cartoonist trapped in the world he created must fight his way back to the real world. Being the daughter of Peter and the niece of Jane, it was almost obligatory for Bridget to become an actress.

John Turturro played Crocker Johnson and Sigourney Weaver was Daisy Quimp. What 2000 movie were they in together?
Company Man. In a movie about mistaken identity, a high school teacher pretended to be a CIA agent to impress his wife. He then accidentally helped a defector, and the CIA recruited him for real. He ended up in Cuba attempting to assassinate Castro. John's first movie was "Raging Bull" in 1980 where he was uncredited.

Sigourney Weaver was Gwen DeMarco, Alan Rickman was Alexander Dane - in which 1999 movie?
Galaxy Quest. Sigourney Weaver was a blond! Wow. The cast of a cancelled science fiction TV show were recruited by real aliens to save them from an alien warlord threatening their planet. Am I the only person who sees the parallels between this movie and "The Three Amigos" from 1986? Actors mistakened for their characters and enticed away to save the poor villagers from the bad guys. Actors finally match their characters. It's obviously a rip off.

In "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" (1991), Alan Rickman played the Sheriff of Nottingham. Who played Lord Locksley?
Brian Blessed. "Prince of Thieves" was another retelling of the Robin Hood story from his imprisonment in the Holy Land to his marriage to Maid Marion. A man of many talents, who can forget Blessed as Prince Vultan in "Flash Gordon" in 1980? Well, quite a few apparently.

Brian Blessed played Trevor Pilkington while Dennis Waterman played Jarvis in which 2007 movie?
Back In Business. Stand back Russia and the USA, in this movie Britain entered the space race. Unfortunately a con-man was the leader of the British contingent and with Scotland Yard's answer to Inspector Clouseau on his trail, the race didn't look to be very even. Well done, now everyone join in with that "The Firm" classic "'Es Alright". "Propping up the bar at the Winchester Club. A VAT on the slate please Dave and Terry's still looking for a sub. Arfur's on to a nice little earner, Terry's getting ag and the chance of an 'ernia, minding the disco down some boozer. Giving him a slap but he's on to a loser. Pound to a penny that he don't get paid on account of the recession in the used car motor trade..." "Minder" was also memorable for the Arthur Daley phrase 'Er indoors' when talking about his wife. Thanks to the IMDb for assistance.
