In life he was the last author to write on the plates. In death, he was entrusted to guard the plates. On September 21, 1823 he appeared to the young boy Joseph Smith for the very first time. The Angel Moroni tutored Joseph Smith in his youth and when he was deemed ready showed him the location of the buried plates. Moroni had buried the golden plates before he died following a great battle that killed all of his kinspeople.

The standard texts of the LDS church are the New Testament and Old Testament of the Bible, The Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, and The Doctrine and Covenants.

Bishop. The Bishop is called from among the members of the local congregation and serves for an average of four to seven years. The position is unpaid and analogous to a pastor in a parish. As the leader of his congregation, he presides over church services, marriages, baptisms, various church ordinances, and works with his advisors to help those who live within the ward boundaries.

Most missions involve some level of proselytizing as missionaries go out to teach non-members about the gospel.
