Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the Quenya word for "fire"?

Answer: nar

The Sindarin word for "fire" is naur. Sometimes the words in Quenya and Sindarin are very similar, other times they are not.
2. What is the Quenya word for "serpent"?

Answer: loke`

A slightly different Quenya word for "serpent" is hloke, but loke is more widely used. Lhug is the Sindarin word for "serpent"
3. What is the Quenya word for "children"?

Answer: hini

Hin is the Sindarin word for "children". Rhun and adu are other Quenya words.
4. What is the Quenya word for "flower"?

Answer: lote`

Loth is the Sindarin word for "flower" and quesse is another Quenya word. In Tolkien's Middle Earth, the month that is closest to May, is called "Lotesse`" in Elvish. Since "lote`" is the word for flower, "Lotesse`" would mean something like, "flower-month".
5. What is the Quenya word for "gold"?

Answer: laure`

Glor is the Sindarin word for "gold". Bril and lait are other Quenya words. Glorfindel's name means "Golden-haired" You can tell because "glor" means gold, and "fin" means hair. If you were just to say "del" you would be saying "horror", but when it is added onto a name, it does not mean anything.
6. What is the Quenya word for "home"?

Answer: mar

Bar is the Sindarin word for "home". Aure` and lesse` are other Quenya words. "Bar-en-Danwedh" is the name of a cave that is home to a dwarf lord, and "Bar" -the Sindarin word for home- is used in the name.
7. What is the Quenya word for "nightingale"?

Answer: lomelinde`

Tindomerel is another Quenya word for nightingale, but it is not usually used. "Linde`" means "singing, or to sing" and "Lome`" menas "dusk". So Lomelinde` technically means "dusk singing", and is used to mean "nightingale".

Answer: lumbule

Lumbule is the only Quenyan word for "shadow".
