1. Mike Weir

Answer: Golf

Michael Weir was born on My 12, 1970, in Ontario. A natural left-handed shot, he won his first golf tournament as a junior at age 12. He began playing professionally in 1992, and won his first PGA tour in 1998, making him the first Canadian to do so! Mike was granted the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario for his work.
2. Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky, born on January 26, 1961, is considered one of Canada's best ever hockey players. He has had numerous awards named after him, and even video games! He played hockey professionally from 1978 to 1999, with teams the Indianapolis Racers, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Ranger, then coached after that.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999 soon after he retired, and his jersey number, 99, was also retired, league-wide from the NHL. Gretzky's nickname, "The Great One", perhaps says it better than anything.
3. Donovan Bailey

Donovan Bailey, born December 16, 1967, was born in Jamaica, but immigrated to Ontario when he was 12. After realizing that most of the competitors in the 1990 Canadian Track and Field Championships were people that he had beaten on the track in the past, he began racing professionally.

He managed to break the 10-second barrier on the track in 1995, only the second Canadian to do so. During the course of his career, he won medals in the Olympic Games, the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games, and the Goodwill Games, to name a few.

He was granted the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.
4. Cindy Klassen

Answer: Speed Skating

Klassen was born on August 12, 1979, in Manitoba. She played ice hockey at the start of her career, then changed to long track speed skating. She won five medals in the 2006 Winter Olympics, making her the first Canadian to win so many at one Olympics. She was awarded the Order of Manitoba for her achievements in 2006. She retired in 2015 due to injuries.
5. Sidney Crosby

Nicknamed "Sid the Kid", Sidney Crosby was born on August 7, 1987, in Nova Scotia. He began his career in 2005, when he won a gold medal at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He played the game-winning goal in the 2010 Winter Olympics, and also won gold in 2014 and in the 2015 IIHF World Championship.

As Captain of the Canadian team, he also won the World Cup of Hockey in 2016. A longtime member of the National Hockey League team the Pittsburgh Penguins, Crosby was also awarded the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia.
6. Ferguson Jenkins

Ferguson "Fergie" Jenkins was born on December 13, 1942. As a boy, he practiced his pitching by throwing pieces of coal at a coal yard near his home in Ontario. He began playing professionally in 1965, and spent the majority of his career playing for the Chicago Cubs. For 7 seasons he was a 20-game winner, and he enjoyed over 3,000 strikeouts over his career.

He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987, and was also awarded the Order of Canada. In 1991, he became the first Canadian inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
7. Christine Sinclair

Born June 12, 1983, in British Columbia, Christine Sinclair began playing soccer at the age of four. Playing for Canada, once she began her professional career she participated in many FIFA World Cups and Olympic Games. She played as a forward and captained her team as well. She received the Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, the Order of Canada, and the Order of British Columbia.
8. Nancy Greene Raine

Answer: Skiing

Nancy Greene was born on May 11, 1943, in Ontario, but moved to British Columbia at an early age. Nicknamed "Tiger", she won two medals in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, as well as three International Ski Federation Alpine Ski World Championships that same year. From 2009 to 2018, she also served as a Senator for British Columbia.

She was awarded the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, and the Order of the Dogwood for her athletics.
9. Steve Nash

Stephen Nash was born on February 7th, 1974, in South Africa, then moved to British Columbia while still a baby. For 18 seasons, he played in the NBA, mostly for the Phoenix Suns, beginning in 1996 and ending 2015 at his retirement. Afterwards, he became a successful basketball coach. Over his career, he was voted NBA Most Valuable Player twice and NBA All-Star 8 times.

He was awarded the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia for his outstanding work.
10. Bobby Orr

Answer: Hockey

Robert Orr was born on March 20, 1948, in Ontario. He began playing hockey at a young age, originally as a forward, but then in defense. He joined the Boston Bruins in 1966, leading them to the winning of the Stanley Cup by scoring the winning goal in both 1970 and 1972.

He also won the 1976 Canada Cup. He later joined the Chicago Black Hawks until his retirement in 1978. Orr was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979. He was also awarded the Order of Canada in 1979.
