Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Bells of St John" (2013), Jenna Louise Coleman is introduced as the new companion for the Doctor. What is her character's name?

Answer: Clara

Clara Oswin Oswald. This is the third time the Doctor has encountered Clara: She played a young woman who had been transformed into a Dalek in "Asylum of the Daleks" (2012) and a Victorian era nanny in "The Snowmen". (2012)
Jasmine was Jenna Louise Coleman's character of the British soap opera "Emmerdale" from 2005 to 2009. Annie was Coleman's character in the 2012 miniseries "Titanic".
2. Where do we find the Doctor at the beginning of the episode?

Answer: A 13th century monastery

The Doctor is with a group of monks, and tells Clara that the year is 1207 when she calls the outside telephone on the TARDIS. The title of the episode actually refers to the telephone, and the St John's Ambulance emblem on the door of the TARDIS. The Doctor was in 1580 Venice in "The Vampires of Venice" (2010), and 1890 France in "Vincent and the Doctor" (2010).

The 22nd century monastery was in "The Rebel Flesh" (2011) and "The Almost People" (2011).
3. What is the password that Jenna Coleman's character uses to access the Internet?

Answer: RYCBAR123

Clara uses the mnemonic "Run you clever boy, and Remember" for the password, and this tips off the Doctor that he has found Oswin. The line was used in both "Asylum of the Daleks" (2012) and "The Snowmen" (2012).
4. One long-running joke on the British science fiction show "Doctor Who" is to have characters ask the question "Doctor Who?" When Jenna Coleman's character meets the Doctor for the first time in "The Bells of St John" (2013), how many times does she say "Doctor Who?"

Answer: 3

Clara Oswald says "Doctor Who?" three times. The first is a natural reaction to the Doctor introducing himself, and the Doctor has her repeat it two more times. "I never realized how much I enjoyed hearing people ask that," states the Doctor. The question itself was called "The First Question" and "The Question which must Never be Answered" in the episode "The Wedding of River Song" (2011).
5. In looking at Ms. Oswald's bookshelf, the Doctor pages through a book called "101 Places To Go". What does he find in the front of the book?

Answer: A Maple Leaf

The Doctor finds a maple leaf in the book. When the Doctor asks Clara about it at the end of the episode, Clara mysteriously replies that it is "Page 1."
6. Where do the Doctor and Ms. Oswald wind up on the first trip they take in the TARDIS?

Answer: An airplane

Their first trip is onto an airplane that is seconds away from crashing into the heart of London. The Doctor and Clara manage to narrowly avoid disaster. The Doctor has frequently landed on spaceships, and was on an ocean liner spaceship in "The Voyage of the Damned" (Christmas special 2007).
7. Where is the headquarters of the group stealing people's minds? (Hint: It's really tall.)

Answer: The Shard

The Shard is a London skyscraper which is 306 meters (1004 feet) tall. When it was completed in March 2012, it was briefly the tallest building in Europe. The Doctor uses an anti-gravity equipped motorcycle to fly up the side of the building and break into the 65th floor. One Canada Square in Canary Wharf played a central role as the headquarters of Torchwood in "Army of Ghosts" (2006) and "Doomsday" (2006).

It was the tallest building in London between 1991 and 2010. Heron Tower is 230 meters (755 feet) tall. Tower 42 is 183 meters (600 feet) tall, and was the tallest building in London between 1980 and 1990.
8. Once the Doctor had saved everyone in "The Bells of St Johns", who turned out to be behind the plot to steal people's minds?

Answer: The Great Intelligence

The Great Intelligence was revealed as the mind behind the plot. He covered his tracks by wiping the memories of the people working for him. The Great Intelligence first appeared in the 1967 episode "The Abominable Snowmen." It returned in "The Snowmen" (2012), where the voice was provided by Sir Ian McKellan.
The Daleks are the oldest villains in the "Doctor Who" universe, dating back to the second series of episodes in December 1963. They have been a mainstay of the series ever since.
The Wire was an alien criminal who also stole people's energy through telecommunications, using television sets, in "The Idiot's Lantern" (2006).
The Atraxi are an alien race that appeared in "The Eleventh Hour" (2010), Matt's Smith's first episode as the Doctor.
9. In "The Bells of St John", the Doctor takes great offense when his new companion refers to the TARDIS as a what?

Answer: snog box

Snog is British slang for kissing. There were several playful moments in the chemistry between Jenna Louise Coleman and Matt Smith in the episode. At one point Clara suspects the Doctor might be coming on to her, and tells him "Down, Boy." By the end of the episode, Clara still had not committed to traveling with the Doctor.
10. Who wrote the "Doctor Who" episode "The Bells of St John"?

Answer: Steven Moffat

Moffat began working on "Doctor Who" in 2005, and took over as Executive Producer in 2008. He has written many of the more critical episodes of the re-booted series, especially the River Song storyline.
Chibnall has written several episodes, including "42" (2007) and "The Hungry Earth"/"Cold Blood" (2010). Roberts wrote several episodes of "Doctor Who" including "The Lodger" (2010) and "Closing Time" (2011), as well as episodes of "The Sara Jane Adventures" (2007-2010).
Davies helped to reboot "Doctor Who" in 2005, and wrote quite a few of the episodes in the first three seasons.
