22. How many different British drivers won their home Grand Prix during the latter half of the twentieth century? (Drivers from Northern Ireland have been included for the purposes of this quiz.)
From Quiz Home Victories: 1950-1999
Answer:
11
Eleven drivers combined for nineteen home victories between 1950 and 1999, of which one was a shared win between Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks in 1957. Moss was the first to do the trick in 1955, followed by his shared win with Brooks, Peter Collins ('58), Jim Clark ('62, '63, '64, '65 and '67), Jackie Stewart ('69 and '71), James Hunt in 1977, John Watson in '81. Nigel Mansell won at home four times ('86, '87, '91 and '92) and Damon Hill ('94), Johnny Herbert ('95) and David Coulthard ('99) once each in the nineties. No other country produced as many home winners or victories. Brazil and France came next with seven home wins each, from four and two drivers respectively.
