Richmond was running against the incumbent mayor of Seattle, and through several scandals (including Rosie) he seemed to be the next mayor. But, when I saw that Billy Campbell had the role of Darren Richmond, I held him as suspect throughout season one. Billy had played enough malevolent characters to cause me to pause here. Through the investigation several people were suspected. Jasper Ames, Rosie's former boyfriend, and his friend Kris Echols were questioned and ruled out. Then, by withholding facts, her favorite teacher, Bennet Ahmed, seemed guilty. This assumption, and Sarah's mishandling of things, led to Stan Larsen and Belko Royce attacking Ahmed and putting him into a coma. He probably would have died if Rosie's mother hadn't realized she'd made a mistake and told Stan, who called 9-1-1 and then turned himself in for the crime. Sterling, Rosie's best friend, covered for Rosie's whereabouts that weekend, while her parents were out of town. Season one ended with Holder unintentionally producing false evidence to confirm Richmond's guilt, Jack and Sarah on a plane to Sonoma, and Belko Royce aiming a gun at Richmond as he was transported in custody.
