Harry Potter Video Games Trivia Questions

1. Where does the player first take control of Harry?

From Quiz
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: The Burrow

The game begins with Snape taking part in a vow: watch over Malfoy and provide assistance if he can't fulfill the goal Voldemort set for him. After that scene, Harry arrives at the Burrow, which is where the player takes control of him. Ginny and Hermione each have a task for Harry that functions as a tutorial for the game. Ginny helps Harry with his flying, since he has just been made captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Hermione asks Harry to help clean out Fred and George's cauldrons. This is accomplished by using the spell Wingardium Leviosa to levitate the cauldrons into a nearby pond.

2. Where do players first take control of Harry?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: Quidditch World Cup

The game begins with Harry's dream about Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew plotting to kill Harry. When Harry wakes up, he goes to the Portkey that will take him to the Quidditch World Cup. After the Quidditch World Cup is over, Death Eaters attack the game and the trio (Harry, Hermione, and Ron) must get back to the Portkey while facing obstacles. It is at this point when players get control of the game and its players.

3. How many spells are in-game (including the ones only Death Eaters can cast)?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: Eight

There is a total of six basic spells in this game: three light (Stupefy, Expulso, Expelliarmus) and three heavy (Petrificus Totalus, Confringo, Impedimenta). Light attack can be spammed to kill a Death Eater without letting him cast a spell. (Exception: Expelliarmus, thats only to break the enemy's Protego, or stop him in his tracks, or any activity, by making him hesitate or fall down.) Heavy spells can be used to pinpoint/Insta-kill the enemy, but they take time to recharge and let Death Eaters cast spells while in use. Also there is Protego, which can be cast for a weaker kind of defense while switching cover. It's useful since you can use it while moving around, and if you run into an enemy with Protego, it's like hitting him with a car. Protego can easily break, and once it does, you can't cast it as intense as you did. Crucio can only be performed by some Death Eaters.

4. As a result of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, Dumbledore decides to reinstate something. What is it?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Duelling Club

Dumbledore reinstates the Duelling Club (originally from "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets") in order to prepare students, since dark forces are at work now that Voldemort has no reason to stay hidden. Harry's first duelling match is after his first Potions lesson in the Great Hall against Ron. He teaches the on-looking students the stunning spell, Stupefy. He also has duelling matches against a Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin student. Each time Harry gains access to a new spell. Harry encounters the Hufflepuff student while heading to his first Quidditch match, the Ravenclaw student while heading to the second Quidditch match, and the Slytherin student while heading to Potions class after the second Quidditch match. Once Harry becomes victorious against each opponent, he is a member of that house's dueling club and can practice his dueling against tougher opponents. Apart from these official duels, there are other times in which Crabbe and Goyle ambush Harry and he must defend himself, one of which is while Harry has taken Felix Felicis, and since it is a luck potion, it is impossible for Harry to lose. All of Harry's spells get magnified and any spell Crabbe and Goyle fire at Harry doesn't affect him in the slightest.

5. What is the first charm Harry uses in the game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: Wingardium Leviosa

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione are trying to get to the Portkey, they encounter several creatures and other obstacles along the way. The first creature that they encounter is Dugbombs. They must be jinxed. The first obstacle is a large boulder, which must be levitated out of the way. To do that, the three of them (along with Arthur Weasley) must use a charm to overcome this obstacle. In this case, the charm is the levitation spell (Wingardium Leviosa).

6. How many levels are in this game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: Twelve

There is a total amount of twelve levels in this "Harry Potter" game, and they go through the whole movie. Some levels are made up from ten seconds of the movie, so it is extremely fun to explore the background a little bit more.

7. What is the only class that happens during the game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: Defense Against the Dark Arts

Similar to the film version, only one class, Defense Against the Dark Arts, occurs during the game. It is during this class that players are introduced to nearly every various creatures and jinxes that will be used throughout the game. However, some, like the Herbivicus spell, are not learned about until later. The Herbology greenhouse is also a location in the game, even though no Herbology classes occur during the game.

8. In which level do you gain Expelliarmus?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: The Streets of Hogsmeade

You gain Expelliarmus just at the beginning of the level: Streets of Hogsmeade. The spell is used to break an enemy's Protego but can be cast at long-range attackers to stop them in their charge of the spell.

9. When Harry spies on Malfoy and Snape, what happens if Harry gets too close to them?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Harry must begin his spying again.

During Slughorn's Christmas party, Snape wishes to talk with Malfoy, who crashes the party. Snape takes Malfoy to the seventh floor, and Harry decides to follow the two of them to figure out what they are talking about. If Harry gets too close, then Snape berates Harry and the spying portion of the game must begin again. The same thing happens if Harry gets too far away from them (obviously excluding the berating part). Snape and Malfoy are discussing Snape's offer to help Malfoy and the latter's sloppiness in trying to fulfill the goal Voldemort set for him. Later in the game, Harry chases Malfoy from the Great Hall to a restroom. Once again, Harry must avoid being too close to or too far away from Malfoy.

10. Which creatures are not encountered during the game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: Nifflers

Blast-Ended Skrewts are first found in the Forbidden Forest. To stop them, Harry must get behind the creature and stun them. Blast-Ended Skrewts are also found in the third task of the Triwizard Tournament. Vampyr Mosps are found in the Herbology greenhouse. To defeat them, Harry must jinx them. Cursing or jinxing them will have no effect. They can also be found in the perfects' bathroom. They usually appear after Harry uses the Herbivius spell to open a flower pad. Grindylows are only found in the second task of the Triwizard Tournament. Jinxing grindylows will cause them to longer be a threat. Nifflers are not found in the PC version of the game but can be found in other versions.

11. Who do you play as in the level "A Job to Do"?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: Seamus Finnigan, then Neville Longbottom

At the first part of this level you play as Seamus, planting charges at the feet of the covered bridge. Then you play as Neville, covering Seamus, who is running back to the castle, and afterwards you are getting chased by Scabior.

12. On Harry and Ron's way to Potions class, they meet Lavender Brown who is trying to catch her books. There is a spell on Lavender's books causing them to fly. What does Harry do to help her?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Uses Lavender's bag to capture the books

Lavender is in love with Ron, who does not reciprocate the feelings. Therefore, when Harry and Ron notice Lavender trying to catch her books, Ron asks Harry to get rid of Lavender being she notices him. Harry does this by helping Lavender catch her books by using her bag to capture them. Harry uses the levitation spell on her bag and then moves it around to where the books are flying, so the books fly into the bag. Once inside the bag, the flying books no longer fly and therefore do not try to escape. Afterwards, Harry turns Lavender that Ron is in the Divination tower. She finds this strange as Ron doesn't take Divination nor does he like the subject. Harry explains that Ron wishes to know his future, and Lavender assumes by "future", he means his and Lavender's future. She leaves for the Divination tower and Harry and Ron are free to head to Potions class.

13. In the level "Battle of Hogwarts", which way do you get to the boathouse?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: Corridor, Paved Courtyard Roof, The Battlements, Marble Staircase, Main Courtyard

When encountering the Main Courtyard you stop and defeat Fenrir Greayback as Hermione. Afterwards you take some stairs to the Boathouse, and then the cutscene comes.

14. A Slytherin student tells Harry that Professor McGonagall wishes to see him in a particular location at Hogwarts. What is this location?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Astronomy Tower

Harry is told that Professor McGonagall wishes to see him at the Astronomy Tower, which Harry finds suspicious for two reasons: 1) the student is a Slytherin, and Slytherins are rivals to Gryffindors, something that Professor McGonagall knows and 2) Aurors (dark wizard catchers) have shut the Astronomy Tower for the time being. Nevertheless, Harry goes up there and finds that it's a trap set by Malfoy, who was the one who sent the message. Harry finds Malfoy's friends, Crabbe and Goyle, up there and must fight them. Once Harry wins the duel, Crabbe and Goyle lock Harry in the Astronomy Tower. To escape, Harry must levitate a key underneath the portcullis and into a keyhole, which will open the portcullis.

15. Which character is seen during the game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: Cedric Diggory

Cedric Diggory is seen in the game giving Harry advice on the egg. He is later seen tied up by the hedges in the third task. After getting free, he and Harry take hold of the Triwizard Cup only to be transported to a graveyard where Peter Pettigrew kills Cedric. Several characters that have a role in the book or film do not make an appearance in the video game. Apart from the other choices, this includes Barty Crouch Jr (the subplot of him posing as Mad-Eye Moody is dropped), Barty Crouch Sr, Ludo Bagman, Igor Karkaroff, and most of the Hogwarts staff.

16. Besides Harry, what other character can the player play as?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Ron

Ron eats a box of chocolates not realizing that they contain a love potion. Harry decides to ask Professor Slughorn for help. On the way from the Gryffindor common room to the Potions classroom, the player is in control of Ron, who follows Harry to the destination. While playing as Ron, Lavender Brown encounters the two of them. Ron explains he is going to see Romilda Vane (the person who added love potion to the chocolate) which confuses Lavender as she believes Ron is in love with her. Control returns to Harry in Slughorn's office when he makes his potion for Ron. The player can also play as Ginny during the third and final Quidditch match. Harry has received detention from Professor Snape and can't play, so it's up to Ginny. Despite this change of players, the goal (to fly through enough stars in order to better capture the Golden Snitch) remains the same as previous Quidditch games and practices.

17. Where can a player not find a vanishing card?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: First task

Vanishing cards can be found in almost every location. However, they can't be found in any of the three tasks or anywhere away from Hogwarts (Quidditch World Cup and the graveyard). There are five vanishing cards, one card in five different locations. They need to be collected quickly, because (as the name implies) the cards will vanish after a certain length of time. The five locations for vanishing cards are Moody's lesson, Moody's games (only one of the games has them, the game where Harry must levitate cauldrons and smash them against walls), Forbidden Forest, perfects' bathroom, and Herbology greenhouse.

18. At the level "The Lost Diadem", who are your enemies?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: Blaise, Draco, Goyle

Crabbe went to the Dungeons to hide from Death Eaters, so Draco needed a substitution who was Blaise Zabini. I suggest attacking only one person in each encounter against them, since the success is measured in damage, not in amount of spells, so don't spread your spells, only attack one person, and usually use Impedimenta, Confringo or other heavy spells to get it done faster.

19. Harry must make quite a few potions at various points in the game. Which potion listed below does Harry not need to make?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Felix Felicis

Harry's first class after term begins is potions taught by Professor Slughorn. For this lesson, Harry must brew the Wit-Sharpening potion. The ingredients are already provided for Harry and all he needs to do is move them from the desk to the cauldron and pour. If he pours too much, then smoke will appear and he will have to redo that ingredient. After the first Quidditch practice, Harry meets up with Ginny who informs him that she has to create the Shrinking Solution and write two essays. Harry offers to brew that potion for her. Harry heads to the Herbology greenhouse to do so, but before he can, a student informs him that he must join the Potions club. In order to join, Harry must brew the Volubilis potion. Once he does that, he can make Ginny's potion. After Christmas break, Harry trails Malfoy but eventually loses him. All that is left is a list of potion ingredients. Harry heads to the Potions classroom to brew the potion to figure out what it is. Professor Slughorn compliments him on an excellently brewed Polyjuice Potion. Harry does use Felix Felicis during the game but he does not have to brew it; rather, he is awarded it by Professor Slughorn. Other potions Harry must brew include Wiggenwald potion (which differs from how it was brewed in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"), an elixir to induce euphoria, an antidote for a love potion, and fertilizer. When brewing fertilizer, Harry has taken Felix Felicis, a luck potion, and therefore it is impossible to mess it up. Although not technically a potion, Harry does make some punch for Slughorn's Christmas party, which is done in the same manner that Harry brews potions.

20. How does a player get one from location to another in the game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: Pensieve

Unlike other "Harry Potter" games, the player can't simply walk around Hogwarts and its grounds. Instead, each location is found by using the Pensieve. To use the Pensieve, all that needs to be do is spin it one way or the other, and assuming the player has enough dragon shields, then the player must enter that location. Dragon shields can be found in almost every location.

21. In which level is the chase scene with Voldemort?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: A Turn of Events

The correct answer is "A Turn of Events" in which you are getting chased by Voldemort throughout the castle. If you are playing this game on XBOX or PS3, then you can get an achievement here named "Care of the Castle" which can be owned, by destroying minimal amount of stuff while running, (accurately less than ten items). The most useful things to destroy are the pillars or the torchers, since those things will down Voldemort's pursuit the most!

22. Which spell does Harry not use during the game?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: Alohomora

Harry learns many spells during the game: 1) Petrificus Totalus, a paralyzing spell - Harry learns this spell during his duel with the captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team 2) Expelliarmus, a disarming spell - Harry learns this spell during his first duel, the one in the Great Hall with Ron 3) Levicorpus, raises an enemy in the air - Harry learns it during his duel with the captain of the Ravenclaw Dueling Club. After learning this spell, duels become more easier to win. Other spells Harry learns include Protego (casts a barrier around Harry to protect him for an opponent's spells), Stupefy (stunning spell), Wingardium Leviosa (levitation spell), Reparo (repairs an object), Incendio (lights an object on fire), Accio (summoning spell), and Depulso (pushes objects away).

23. In most locations, a player can find five of a certain object relating to the area Harry is currently in. Which item can be found in the Herbology greenhouse?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (PC)

Answer: shovels

In the Herbology greenhouse, shovels can be found. Taps can be found in the prefect's bathrooms; mushrooms can be found in the Forbidden Forest, and dark detectors can be found in Moody's lesson. These objects do nothing to help Harry throughout the game. Aside from having a 100% game completion, there isn't really a point in collecting them.

24. Can you apparate in this game? And if yes, then who can?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: You can, but only Harry, and only short distance

Apparition can be used to instantly get past a gap or just to get into safety. It's extremely useful, although you can't spam it since it has a recharge time.

25. Who is the only character who can ride a broomstick well and use spells while doing it?

From Quiz Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4

Answer: Harry & Harry Potter

Very few characters can even fly properly (if Hermione mounts a broomstick, it will only hobble and barely take her from A to B), but Harry is the only one who can also use spells on a broomstick. This is important when you get near the end of Year 1 and chase the enchanted keys. Some collectibles will only be reached on broomstick, either by soaring high or by performing some feats such as flying through a number of hoops.

26. What happens when Harry collects 100 mini challenge crests?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Answer: He earns a full-sized challenge crest.

There are 150 challenge crests in the game. There are 125 full-sized crests somewhere around the castle; the other 25 Harry can earn if he has 100 mini challenge crests. These crests can be out in the open, placed on the walls, behind locked places (which requires Harry to levitate the crests), and hidden inside or behind objects. There are even some that are broken, in which case, Harry needs to repair them using the spell Reparo. Others are on a lion statue and can only be collected if Harry performs a task, such as making a potion or duelling a student.

27. Which Death Eater can perform "Crucio"?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Answer: Every one of them if you play on Expert mode, otherwise only masked ones

Now this is a very interesting question since on Expert mode even Snatchers can perform "Crucio", but on Normal or Advanced mode, only Masked ones and a few other can. Funny thing: Did you know that "Crucio" is just a red Expulso? :D

28. What do you need in order to smash glass?

From Quiz Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4

Answer: Mandrake

Mandrake Handling is taught in Year 2 after the first level. You need to wear earmuffs in order to approach a Mandrake (dressers containing earmuffs are located somewhere near the Mandrakes), then you can carry it to a glass object and hold it close to it. The Mandrake's screams will smash the glass. After you've finished, find the pot for the Mandrake and put it in there to silence it. Characters who are not wearing earmuffs cannot go near a Mandrake. Singing Mandrakes is one of the Red Brick extras. It is pretty cute but mainly a perk for you (the Mandrake screams are really piercing).
