Howard Hughes moved in on Thanksgiving Day in 1966 and rented all the rooms on the top two floors for ten days. When the owner requested he move out because his reservation was up Hughes promptly went and bought the enormous hotel. The famous "Crystal Showroom" of the hotel has featured almost every major star of the 1970's and 1980's.

This hotel was the fifth resort to open its doors on the Las Vegas strip and in 2000 the 715-room hotel closed its doors for the final time.
