Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band wrote the song "21 Guns"?

Answer: Green Day

21 Guns was released in 2009 by Green Day. A cast version was produced later for the musical "American Idiot". In a 2009 interview, Billie Joe Armstrong, the band singer, said "It brings up 21st Century Breakdown in a lot of ways, and the 21 gun-salute for someone that's fallen, but done in an arena rock 'n' roll sort of way." Personally, one of my favorite songs!

2. Which card game would you most likely relate to the number 21?

Answer: Blackjack

In blackjack, the real objective is to beat the dealer, contrary to the popular belief that says the main objective is to get to 21 or the closest possible. Blackjack originated in France. The original name of the game is "21", it is known as "blackjack" since 1920, when the word appeared as slang.
3. In 2011, an album called "21", was released. Who was the artist?

Answer: Adele

"21" was Adele's second album, the first being "19". These names refer to how old she was when she wrote the songs. "21" was the second album to ever reach one million digital copies sold. The first was Eminem's 'Recovery'.
4. 21 is the atomic number for which element?

Answer: Scandium

Hydrogen's atomic number is 1, Arsenic's is 33 and Titanium's is 22. Scandium was discovered by Lars F. Nilson in 1879. The atomic number of an element also stands for the number of protons in it. Therefore, scandium has 21 protons.
Scandium production is very low, so there are very few uses you can give to it. One of them is add it to aluminum and create a very strong material, used in aircraft, especially military ones. Scandium is often expensive, so most aircraft are made of titanium.
5. 21 is a prime number.

Answer: False

Prime numbers are those which can only be divided by 1 and themselves. 21 can be divided between 3 or 7, which makes it a semi-prime number as its only factors are prime numbers. From 0 to 100, you will find 25 prime numbers.
6. What is 21:00 military time for?

Answer: 9:00 PM

Military time uses a 24-hour format, where the numbers represent the amount that has passed since midnight, the start of the day. In this system, the AM hours stay that way (with the exception of the time between midnight and 1am), while PM hours change. For example, 4:00 pm would be 16:00.
Some even say military time does not exist, considering this is only a 24-hour format clock also used in hospitals, fire departments and airlines, to mention a few.
7. The number 21 is commonly used in sports. Which athlete DID NOT use the number 21 at any point of his career?

Answer: Hugo Sanchez

Hugo Sanchez, the Mexican five-time top scorer of the Spanish League never wore 21 when playing professionally. When playing in Spain, with Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid, he wore number 9, the number centre forwards usually have. When playing in Mexico, he used 34 in Pumas and 10 in America. He also used number 20 when he played with the San Diego Sockers.
Jaime Lozano, a Mexican footballer, and baseballers Fernando Martinez, in the Houston Astros, and Scott Sanderson with the New York Yankees did wear 21 at some point of their career.
8. UNESCO has declared February 21 as the International Day of what?

Answer: Mother Language

In November 1999, February 21st was proclaimed the International Mother Language Day. It has been observed since 2000, and it intends to promote linguistic diversity. On this day, the UN also commemorates the day in 1952 when students who were protesting for the recognition of their language, Bangla, as a national language of Pakistan, were killed by the police in Dhaka, the capital of what is now Bangladesh.

9. In Mexico, the legal age for voting is 21.

Answer: False

It is in many other countries, but not in Mexico. Actually, Mexico had the same standards until 1970, when the law was changed to allow people 18 and above to vote in elections. Before this regulation, if you were 18 (or older) you could only vote if you were legally married. After several student protests, the law was approved and it was described as "democratic progress".
10. In 2008, the movie "21" was released, starring Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Spacey, and directed by Robert Luketic. For which of these movies was Luketic also the director?

Answer: Legally Blonde

"Legally Blonde" was premiered in 2001, starring Reese Witherspoon, who also acted in the "Twilight" movie. Robert Luketic is an Australian director, who also directed "The Ugly Truth" and "Monster-in-Law".
