Answer: Phil

He is now a well-known exhibit at the Zoo and was named after animal collector Phil Carroll, who brought him to the St. Louis Zoo on September 10, 1941. Phil was one of the largest gorillas on record weighing in somewhere between 500 - 600 lbs.

In 1912, installation of the mosaics in the interior began. More than 41,000,000 pieces of glass were used to create the illustrations that told numerous religious stories. 20 different artists created the mosaics.

The tornado struck at 4:30 p.m. on May 27, 1896. It hit the ground near St. Louis City Hospital, crossed the river towards East St. Louis Illinois, and in a little more than 15 minutes, over 250 people died.

Answer: Tennessee Williams

Tennessee Williams died on February 25, 1983 after he choked on a bottle cap in his room at the Hotel Elysee in New York. Despite his wishes to be buried at sea near the location of poet Hart Crane's burial, Williams was actually buried in Calvary Cemetery.

The Dent family gave Grant and his wife Julie 80 acres of land near St. Louis as a wedding gift. Doing most of the work himself, Grant was able to construct the cabin in just three days. It still stands today as an attraction in Grant's Farm. Also on the property is the Busch family mansion, White Haven, where Grant also took up residence at some point between wars.

The Lemp Mansion, reported as one of the top ten haunted places in North America, is host to various inexplicable events. Many employees and guests of the restaurant and inn reported sightings of Lillian Lemp, the "Lavender Lady" who died in 1960. Other people experienced the feeling of being watched, as well as hearing a dog bark when no dog was present.
10. Who was the first president to ride in an airplane when he boarded a plane at St. Louis' airfield?

Answer: Theodore Roosevelt

Archie Hoxsey, a member of the Wright Brothers' team, gave Roosevelt his first plane ride in 1910. Roosevelt flew from the airfield called Kinloch field for four minutes.
