In the period 1939-1946, 20th Century-Fox and Universal Studios produced a series of 14 films about Sherlock Holmes, based on the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Actor Philip St. John Basil Rathbone (1892-1967), born in South Africa from an English family, had a long career in cinema.

His most famous role was Sherlock Holmes in this series where he starred with the British actor William Nigel Ernie Bruce (1895-1953) who played Dr. John Watson. In addition to the films, the two actors made numerous episodes for radio.

John Hinckley Jr. fired six shots at the president as he left the Hilton Washington Hotel, hitting Reagan and three other people. On May 13, 1981, Pope John Paul II, born Karol Józef Wojtyla, was shot and severely wounded by Mehmet Ali Agca when arriving at St. Peter's Square. Reagan and Wojtyla, before their careers as religious or political figures, were both actors.

Arthur Rubinstein (1887-1982) was born in Lodz, Poland to a Jewish family. At age of two, watching his sister play the piano, he already demonstrated his inclination for this instrument. When he was 10, he moved to Berlin to pursue his studies; in 1900, at the age of 13, he performed with the Berlin Philharmonic and in 1906, made his debut in New York at the Carnegie Hall.

He dedicated himself intensely to music because, in addition to being talented, he practiced countless hours daily. Rubinstein had a vast repertoire and is considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.

The Rhine River, one of the longest rivers in Europe, is 1230km long, rises in Switzerland, runs north towards Germany and Netherlands emptying into the North Sea.

He was one of the most popular actors in the Golden Age of Hollywood. He began his film career in the late 1940s and devoted much of his time to cinema and television.

Perhaps his best-known films are "Magnificent Obsession" released in 1954 and "Giant", 1956. In the film "Giant", Rock Hudson starred opposite Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean.
