Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Artemis was born on the island of Delos, the only place where Illithyia, the goddess of childbirth could reach them through the curse. Illithyia was a goddess originating from where?

Answer: Crete

Illithyia is from Crete. Hesiod said that she was the daughter of Hera and Zeus but a poet described her as the 'clever spinner' inferring that she has a connection with fate and is possibly older than Cronus. Ithaca is where Odysseus lived, Colchis was where the Golden Fleece was kept, and Erebus is where the Palace of Hades is.
2. When Artemis was three she asked Zeus for a number of wishes. How many wishes did she ask for?

Answer: Six

Artemis's first wish was to remain chaste for eternity and never be bound by marriage. Next she asked for a bow and arrows like her brother Apollo's. Artemis' wish list also included a hunting costume, the job of bringing light to the world, six nymphs to help care for her hunting dogs and to be her companions, and all the mountains of the earth to be her dwelling.
3. Artemis is normally associated with the moon. Which star sign is she connected with?

Answer: Cancer

Artemis along with Selene and Hecate, are connected to Cancer because they are associated with the moon and Cancer has the moon as celestial guardian. Poseidon, Zeus and Morpheus are under Pisces, Aries has Ares and Taurus keeps Aphrodite and Hera.
4. Artemis's arrows of moonlight and silver had a special ability to cause painless death. How many of Niobe's son's were slain by the arrows of The Moon?

Answer: None

Niobe's daughters were killed by Artemis while Apollo killed the sons. Therefor if you got the answer wrong you fell for my trick question.
5. When a young girl went into service to the Temple of Artemis she was called something. What was it?

Answer: Arktos

In Brauron, five to ten year olds were taking into the Temple of Artemis to serve the priests. Grunos means firebrand, Hebe means fire, Kauma means firewood and Arktos means Little She-bear.
6. Which Olympian boxed Artemis with her own weapons?

Answer: Hera

During the Trojan War Artemis sided with the Trojans. Hera then got mad about Artemis boasting that the Trojans are better so Hera walloped her around the head.
Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and plants, Ares is the god of war and Aphrodite is the goddess of sexual energy and beauty.
7. A bronze sculpture called 'Artemis and the Stag' was sold for a large amount of money in 2007. How much was it?

Answer: $25.5 million

The sculpture broke the most expensive auction record. The Roman-era sculpture depicts Artemis with bow drawn alongside a stag. The sculpture was sold at Sotheby's auction house by Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York.
8. In a version of the death of Adonis, Artemis sent a wild boar to kill him. Which goddess was Adonis a favorite of?

Answer: Aphrodite

Adonis was the favored of Aphrodite so in one version Ares got jealous and sent a wild boar to maul Adonis or, in this version, Artemis wanted to get even with Aphrodite for killing Hippolytus. Hestia is the goddess of the hearth and the home, Bia is the personification of violence and strength, and Atropos is the Fate who cuts the thread of life.
9. Actaeon was turned into a deer by Artemis. Which element was used to start the metamorphosis?

Answer: Water

Artemis splashed water upon Actaeon's brow upon which he started to sprout horns.
10. Artemis had a favorite named Atalanta. Who was Atalanta's father?

Answer: Iasius
