1. "Cats are like witches. They don't fight to kill, but to win. There is a difference. There's no point in killing an opponent. That way, they won't know they've lost, and to be a real winner you have to have an opponent who is beaten and knows it. There's no triumph over a corpse, but a beaten opponent, who will remain beaten every day of the remainder of their sad and wretched life, is something to treasure." Which book about the Lancre witches was this quote taken from? Hint

She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella." This quote is about Susan. Which book is it from? Hint

Question 3 of 15
3. "Any wizard bright enough to survive for five minutes was also bright enough to realise that if there was any power in demonology, then it lay with the demons. Hint

Hint

Question 6 of 15

There was no sound but the hiss of snow in the fire and a number of people thinking fast. 'I think you mean cucumber,' said the bard." This one may be difficult for some people; which book?
Hint

Question 7 of 15
7. "'The tincture of the night began to suffuse the soup of the afternoon.'
Lord Vetinari considered the sentence, and found it good. He liked 'tincture' particularly. Tincture. Tincture. It was a distinguished word, and pleasantly countered the flatness of 'soup'. The soup of the afternoon. Yes. In which may well be found the croutons of teatime." This quote involves Lord Vetinari. Which book was it taken from?

Its owner was covered in red hair and, while short-changed in the leg department, had obviously been first in the queue when the arm counter opened. And had also been given a special free offer of lip." It's not hard to tell who this quote is about. Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Witches Abroad

A quote referring to Greebo in "Witches Abroad". This was the first book where he was turned into a human.
2. "She'd become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she'd taken to it well. She'd sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she'd beat herself to death with her own umbrella." This quote is about Susan. Which book is it from?

Answer: Hogfather

Susan is a governess in "Hogfather". She was a teacher in "Thief of Time" and a student in "Soul Music". She has always been a bit unorthodox in all of the positions she has filled. For example, when the children whom she is a governess to complain about a monster under the bed, Susan tends to go after said monster with a poker. Now these children go fairly untouched and the poker is a feared weapon to members of the occult.
3. "Any wizard bright enough to survive for five minutes was also bright enough to realise that if there was any power in demonology, then it lay with the demons. Using it for your own purposes would be like trying to beat mice to death with a rattlesnake." This is fairly easy if you're familiar with Terry Pratchett novels.

Answer: Eric

In the book; "Eric," Eric was trying to take after his father who was a demonologist. He attempted to summon a demon and wound up summoning Rincewind instead. Apparently demons work like genies. You get wishes from them but they all wind up backfiring.
4. "'Witches have been buying lucky horseshoes?' said Nanny. 'Like there's no tomorrow,' said Zakzak. He frowned for a moment. They had been witches, after all. 'Er .... there will be .... won't there?' he added." Which story is this quote from?

Answer: The Sea And Little Fishes

"The Sea And Little Fishes" is a short story about the Witch Trials, an annual event where witches test their skills. Esme always wins. This was the first Terry Pratchett story I ever read. I found it in a book called "Legends", which is a large collection filled with short fantasy stories.
5. "The sergeant pulled Sardines out of his pocket. The rat was eating a biscuit, but he raised his hat politely. 'Isn't that a bit . . . unhygienic?' said the mayor. 'No, guv, he's washed his hands,' said Sardines." Which Discworld book is this quotation taken from?

Answer: The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents

"The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents" is a story based on the old fairy tale of the Pied Piper. However, in this story the pied piper is a fraud who works with an intelligent cat and a swarm of intelligent rodents who travel across the country side scamming various small towns. I avoided this book for a long time, because it was about talking mice.

When I finally did read it I adored it. It's a bit different from some of his other books (There aren't many footnotes ... and the ones that are there are serious) but it's still wonderful.
6. "'It killed Old Vincent the Ripper,' said Boy Willie. 'He choked to death on a concubine.' There was no sound but the hiss of snow in the fire and a number of people thinking fast. 'I think you mean cucumber,' said the bard." This one may be difficult for some people; which book?

Answer: The Last Hero

"The Last Hero" is basically a massive picture book. It's filled with beautiful illustrations by Paul Kidby and a wonderful story that includes Rincewind, the Silver Horde, Leonard Da Quirm and Carrot from the City Watch.
7. "'The tincture of the night began to suffuse the soup of the afternoon.' Lord Vetinari considered the sentence, and found it good.

Answer: Feet Of Clay

This is a story that has to do with the Golems. Vetinari spent much of this book ill. The quote, which shows slightly unorthodox thinking on his part, is an example of how ill he was.
8. "The young man is an idealist. He has yet to find out that what's in the public interest is not what the public is interested in." Which story is this quote from?

Answer: The Truth

This quote is about Willaim De Worde. "The Truth" mocks journalism and the newspaper. This is also a very good book.
9. "'That's right,' he said. 'We're philosophers. We think, therefore we am.'" Which book is this quote from?

Answer: Small Gods

"Small Gods" mocks religion. The story follows Brutha, who is Om's last true believer. (In other words, he still believes in the god, rather then the false teachings that have evolved throughout the years.)
This is probably my favorite book about a character that is not common in the Discworld novels. It's fantastic.
10. "The hulking figure seated at the organ turned around and gave her a friendly grin, which was much wider than the average grin. Its owner was covered in red hair and, while short-changed in the leg department, had obviously been first in the queue when the arm counter opened. And had also been given a special free offer of lip." It's not hard to tell who this quote is about.

Answer: Maskerade

A quote about the Librarian, who enjoys playing the Organ and is apparently pretty good at it. He's the only character from the University we see in this novel, it otherwise has to do with the Lancre witches. (Although, a few of the City Watch members are also seen at one point in the book)
11. "Using a metaphor in front of a man as unimaginative as Ridcully was like a red flag to a bu-- was like putting something very annoying in front of someone who was annoyed by it." Which book is this from?

Answer: Lords And Ladies

Before reading this story I always wondered what you would get if you mixed the Lancre Witches with the Ankh Morpork wizards. This quote is referring to yet another conversation between Ridcully and Ponder Stibbons. The wizards from the university were invited to Queen Magrat and King Verence's wedding in Lancre. Oddly enough, we find that Ridcully and Esme had a past together.
12. "Vimes had once discussed the Ephebian idea of 'democracy' with Carrot, and had been rather interested in the idea that everyone had a vote until he found out that while he, Vimes, would have a vote, there was no way in the rules that anyone could prevent Nobby Nobbs from having one as well. Vimes could see the flaw there straight away." Which book is this quote from?

Answer: Fifth Elephant

Yet another book about the Ankh Morpork city watch. In this story the Watch visits Uberwald to attend a royal function.
13. "Dock-a-loodle-fod!" Probably not too hard if you follow the series. Which book?

Answer: Reaper Man

The dyslexic rooster in "Reaper Man". He was threatened by The Grim Reaper to get his crowing right.
14. "'Students made it long ago,' said Rincewind. 'Handy way in and out after lights out.' 'Ah,' said Twoflower, 'I understand. Over the wall and out to brightly-lit tavernas to drink and sing and recite poetry, yes?' 'Nearly right except for the singings and the poetry, yes,' said Rincewind." Which book does this come from?

Answer: The Light Fantastic

This was the second book written in the Discworld series. The book follows Rincewind and Twoflower and is a continuation of their adventures in the first book.
15. "It's not accepted Ankh-Morpork medical practice, but since Ankh-Morpork medical practice would consist of hitting him on the head with a mallet he's probably getting the best of the deal." Which book about the Watch is this quote from?

Answer: Night Watch

This quote is about Dr. Lawn in "Night Watch". He is an illegal medical specialist who is very good at what he does.
