Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the meaning of the phrase "Se onr sverdar sitja hvass"?

Answer: May your swords stay sharp

"Se onr sverdar sitja hvass" is a common farewell. "May you find peace" is said "Se mor'ranr ono finna". "May the Stars watch over you" is said "Atra du evarinya ono varda", and "Live long and prosper" is a Vulcan farewell said "Dif tor heh smusma" in Vulcan.
2. How do you say "catch" in the ancient language?

Answer: kodthr

Kvetha means greetings, Kveykva means lightning and Kuldr means gold.
3. What is the name of the ancient language?

Answer: No one knows

The name of the ancient language would be an extremely powerful word that could be used to control the entire language and everyone who used it. In Brisingr the Ra'zac tell Eragon that Galbatorix has almost figured out this name (I don't know if he does because "Inheritance" has not come out yet.)
4. What does "vondr" mean?

Answer: a thin straight stick

Brom taught Eragon this during one of his many language lessons. I do not believe that he ever used it when doing magic.
5. What does "Du Vrangr Gata" mean?

Answer: The Path Wandering

Du Vrangr Gata is the name of the Varden's magic organisation who are not that talented, they are so unlearned in the ancient language that they got the grammar of their name wrong and accidentally named themselves the Path Wandering rather than the Wandering Path as they meant to.
6. What is "Du Namar Aurboda"?

Answer: The Banishing of names

Du Namar Auboda was magic created by dragons that stripped all names of the dragons of the Forsworn reducing them to little more than animals. Shruikan, Galbatorix's dragon, who was made to follow him by black magic, was spared this horrible fate.
7. What is the first spell that Eragon uses deliberately?

Answer: Stenr Risa

If you are protesting then I need to tell you that first of all these questions are based on the book rather than the movie and Brisingr was not used deliberately. Kodthr means catch and Eragon never actually used this spell.
8. How do you say "Gold rise and bind into an orb"?

Answer: Kuldr, risa un malthinae unin bollr

Eragon says this in the third book to pay back Gedrick the tanner for the hides that he stole in the first book.
9. Which of these is the proper term for an elf woman?

Answer: alfa-kona

Svit-kona means "elf woman of great wisdom" which is not appropriate for all elf women. Elda is a gender-neutral term of highest honour which is certainly not for all elf women. Ebrithil means master and so most elf women would not have this term, but alfa-kona literally means "elf woman" and so is appropriate for all elf women.
10. Challenge Question! How do you say I am a friend of elves and dwarves and dragons?

Answer: Eka fricai alfaykyn un dvergar un Skulblaka.

"Eka fricai" means "I am a friend". Elves are alfaykyn, dwarves are dvergar, and Dragons are Skulblaka. Un means and. Don't worry if you missed this question, I can only do this because I have studied the ancient language more deeply than any other language.
