Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the film, when Lee Geum-Ja is released from prison, a preacher is waiting for her with a group from his church. What is unusual about their clothing?

Answer: They are wearing Santa outfits.

For some reason, the church group are all wearing Santa outfits and playing musical instruments, with the exception of the preacher. They are waiting for Lee Geum-Ja, who has become something of a protege to the preacher during her time in prison, in order to give her the traditional gift of tofu - a pure white food, ingested upon leaving prison as a symbol of the new, pure life the inmate is to begin. Lee Geum-Ja refuses the gift, knocking it out of the preacher's hands, and shocking the whole group.
2. Due to the media frenzy surrounding Lee Geum-Ja's arrest, which aspect of her appearance is said to have become very fashionable?

Answer: Her dress

In the footage of Lee Geum-Ja's incarceration, she wears a white dress with red and blue spots. As a result of her continuous media coverage, this style and pattern of dress is said to become the biggest seller of the season. Her makeup becomes very distinctive (and symbolic), but this does not happen until after her release many years later.
3. Which actress is Lee Geum-Ja said to be compared to?

Answer: Olivia Hussey

Olivia Hussey is an actress probably best known for her role as Juliet, in the 1968 version of "Romeo and Juliet" by Franco Zeffirelli. It is stated that upon her arrest, the nation was shocked by Lee Geum-Ja's youth, and apparent naivety, but mostly by her beauty. It is while discussing her beauty that this comparison is made.
4. Kim Yang-Hee is one of Lee Geum-Ja's cellmates in prison. What was she convicted for?

Answer: Murder

Kim Yang-Hee was a former prostitute, who was sent to prison after strangling her pimp. Whilst in prison, she learns how to cut and style hair, so that she will be able to support herself when she is released.
5. Upon her release, Lee Geum-Ja meets up with Kim Yang-Hee, who has gathered some clothes and supplies for her. What does Lee Geum-Ja complain about, when she sees the provisions?

Answer: The shoes don't have high heels.

Whilst in prison, Lee Geum-Ja appears to have a relationship with Kim Yang-Hee. After her release, Lee Geum-Ja stops putting on the kind-hearted Miss Lee Geum-Ja persona, and Kim Yang-Hee quickly realises that Lee Geum-Ja never really loved her back.
6. How does Lee Geum-Ja first attempt to show Won-Mo's parents that she is sorry for killing their son?

Answer: She cuts off her finger.

Lee Geum-Ja goes to Won-Mo's home, and proceeds to chop off her little finger as proof of how sorry she is. She is prepared to cut off all of her fingers, but the parents stop her. She is rushed to hospital to have her finger reattached, and is seen wearing a large bandage for the rest of the film.
7. How does Geun-Shik react when he first sees Lee Geum-Ja?

Answer: He drops a stack of crates.

Geun-Shik is Lee Geum-Ja's young co-worker at the Na Ru Sae bakery. When he is first introduced to her, he is carrying a stack of plastic crates, which he promptly drops all over the floor. He asks Lee Geum-Ja if he can call her big sister, to which she replies "No, just call me Miss Lee Geum-Ja".
8. Woo So-Young, another fellow inmate of Lee Geum-Ja, believes herself to be dying of a broken heart. What is actually wrong with her?

Answer: Kidney failure

Woo So-Young is imprisoned for committing armed robbery with her husband. When they are sent to separate prisons, she thinks that her broken heart is causing her to feel ill. In actual fact, she is suffering from kidney failure, prompting Lee Geum-Ja to donate one of her kidneys.

After Lee Geum-Ja is released from prison, she calls in the favour and has Woo So-Young's husband build her iconic gun.
9. Ko Sun-Sook gives Lee Geum-Ja the blueprints for making her gun. When Lee Geum-Ja asks her why she has given it to her, what is Ko Sun-Sook's reply?

Answer: You have an enemy.

Ko Sun-Sook is an elderly prisoner who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. She has been a prisoner for many years, after being arrested as a North Korean spy. Due to her illness, she had become a great burden to the prison staff, so Lee Geum-Ja's offer to take care of her was gratefully accepted.
10. Lee Geum-Ja returns home to her apartment to find the preacher waiting for her. What does she tell him to make him leave?

Answer: She has converted to Buddhism.

The preacher has great difficulty believing that Lee Geum-Ja's good-natured and pious behaviour whilst in prison was all an act. He seems desperate to help her return to religion, and there is also an implication that he may be in love with her. Lee Geum-Ja has no interest in the preacher now that he has served his purpose, so she tells him that she has changed religions.
