Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Senator Padme Amidala, how does liberty die?

Answer: "...with thunderous applause"

She says this to Senator Organa as Chancellor Palpatine is making a speech to the Senate, in which he declares the Republic will become the first Galactic Empire to ensure safety and security. The proposal is met with thunderous applause by most of the Senators present.

CORRECTION NOTE: There have been quite a few inquiries and corrections regarding what Padme actually says. To avoid unnecessary notes and clear up any confusion, the following is an excerpt from the actual script:

"PADME: So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause . . .

"BAIL ORGANA: We cannot let this happen."
2. Who kills Darth Tyranus?

Answer: Anakin Skywalker

Anakin beheads Count Dooku (also known as Darth Tyranus) at the beginning of the movie. Dooku has "kidnapped" Palpatine (Palpatine and Dooku are actually working together as they are the Dark Lords Of The Sith) and Obi Wan and Anakin have gone to rescue him. Obi-Wan is knocked unconscious during the fight. Eventually, Anakin disables Dooku, who ends up kneeling, helpless before him. Realizing that Anakin must act on his thirst for revenge as a part of his journey to the Dark Side, and there can only be two Dark Lords Of The Sith, Palpatine urges Anakin to act on his anger and kill Count Dooku.

It is a violation of the Jedi Code to kill a helpless adversary, but with Kenobi unconscious and unaware, Anakin kills Count Dooku. He does not pledge himself as a Sith until later.

At this point he is still unaware that Chancellor Palpatine is actually Darth Sidious.
3. Who first uses this phrase to Anakin in regards to his relationship with Padme (that goes far beyond platonic friendship)? "...can save your wife."

Answer: Chancellor Palpatine

During a scene when Palpatine actually offers to teach Anakin the ways of the Dark Side, he tells Anakin that the power of the Dark Side "...can save your wife." Anakin has been having visions of Padme dying in child birth. Anakin is visibly shocked to learn that Palpatine knows he is married.

Obi-Wan is actually the second to figure this out. Later in the movie he rhetorically asks Padme if Anakin is the father of her unborn child.
4. Who exposes Chancellor Palpatine to the Jedi Council as Darth Sidious?

Answer: Anakin Skywalker

Anakin figures this out in the same scene that Palpatine tells Anakin he knows Anakin is married. In this scene, Palpatine actually offers to teach Anakin the ways of the Dark Side. Given this, Palpatine's knowledge of the Force, as well as his knowledge of Sith history, Anakin finally figures it all out. (Palpatine has been grooming Anakin for quite some time.) Anakin informs Mace Windu, who tries to arrest the Chancellor.
5. Who kills Mace Windu?

Answer: Darth Sidious, a.k.a. Chancellor Palpatine

Mace and three other members of the Jedi Council have tried to arrest Palpatine, now exposed as Darth Sidious, for masterminding the Clone Wars. Palpatine kills the other three Jedi, but Mace manages to disarm him. At this point Anakin shows up. Windu has decided to kill Palpatine because Palpatine controls the Senate, and will never be convicted of treason. Anakin needs Palpatine to help him learn the ways of the Dark Side in order to save Padme from dying in child birth. He attempts to stop Master Windu and, in the process, cuts off Windu's hand. However, it is Palpatine who ultimately kills Mace, using the Force to shoot electricity (Force Lightning) from his finger tips, while Anakin sheepishly watches.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU SEND A CORRECTION NOTE:
Darth Sidious does kill Mace Windu. The answer does NOT say he DID or did NOT have help. If you are among those that believe Anakin helped him by chopping off Windu's hand, this is the correct answer because Sidious ultimately performs the act. If you believe Sidious was playing possum, and did not need Anakin's help, this answer is still correct. If you are among those who think Anakin killed Palpatine because he needed him to save Padme, you misunderstood what your friends were telling you and need to actually watch the movie before sending a correction. Bottom line: Whatever Anakin's intentions, whether Sidious needed Anakin or not, Sidious killed Windu. The answer is correct for all scenarios.
6. Who wins the fight between Darth Sidious and Master Yoda?

Answer: Darth Sidious wins a close match because Yoda retreats and fails to remove Sidious from power

No doubt many will say it was a draw (which is why I worded the question as specifically as I did), but Yoda actually loses this one. True, the fight ends with Sidious clinging for life above the Senate floor, but Yoda takes a tumble so severe it prompts a search for his body.

It is not until the clones fail to find Yoda's body, that Palpatine concludes Yoda is not dead. Yoda, appearing to be mildly injured, actually retreats, and admits to Senator Bail Organa that he has failed.
7. Who wins the light saber duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader?

Answer: Obi-Wan

With Palpatine exposed as Darth Sidious, and Anakin exposed as Darth Vader, Yoda and Obi-Wan set out, individually, to confront and destroy the two Sith Lords. (Obi-Wan and Yoda are the only known survivors of a Sith/Clone attack on the Jedi.) After a gruelling duel, Obi-Wan leaves Vader legless, badly burned, and dying on the lava planet Mustafar. Vader is, of course, saved by Darth Sidious after Obi-Wan has departed.

Interesting note: In this scene Obi-Wan cries, "You were the Chosen One!" This indicates Master Kenobi believed Anakin failed to fulfill his destiny. However, earlier in the movie, Yoda indicates the Prophecy about the Chosen One may have been mistinterpreted. The Prophecy stated that the Chosen One would bring balance to the Force, and destroy the Sith. Many Jedi interpreted bringing balance to the Force, and destroying the Sith to be the same event. However, the Sith had been in hiding for a millenium and were thought extinct before the emergence of Darth Maul in "Episode I". The Force indeed, had been out of balance, as the Jedi had been unchallenged by the Dark Lords Of The Sith for a thousand years.

When Anakin (Darth Vader) helped Darth Sidious destroy the Jedi, and take complete control of the Republic/Empire, the tables were turned. In "Episodes IV-VI" it is suggested that Vader hunted and killed the few remaining Jedi in the years between "Revenge Of The Sith" and "A New Hope". Only two Jedi remained: Obi-Wan and Yoda. There was an actual mathmatical balance: 2 Jedi, and 2 Sith.

In "Return Of The Jedi" Darth Vader returns to the Light Side and kills Darth Sidious, effectively destroying the Sith.

Thus, it is plausible that the prophecy has been fulfilled, as two distinct, separate events, and that Master Yoda was right about the misinterpretation.

CORRECTION NOTE: I have only said this theory is PLAUSIBLE, not cold, hard, Lucas-endorsed fact. Further, I am aware that the novels after "Return Of The Jedi", suggest that other Jedi successfully hid and survived through the original trilogy, and that Emperor Palpatine returns as a Sith Lord in a cloned body, and that Vader had a secret Sith Apprentice who continued the order. However, these happenings are a part of the "Expanded Star Wars Universe", and are not necessarily a part of Lucas's vision. This "extra info" is based solely on the events of the six episodes that make up the two Lucas trilogies. The very name "Return Of The Jedi" suggests there are none after Yoda's death, and that Luke becoming a Jedi at the end of the movie is the return of such. Sorry for such an extensive, pre-emptive note, but I know how picky we geeks can be, and would rather type it once than reply to several correction notices.
8. After Anakin pledges himself to the teachings of Darth Sidious, officially becoming Darth Vader, what color is his light saber?

Answer: Blue

He continues to use a light saber after he becomes a Sith Lord.
9. Who kills General Grievous?

Answer: Obi-Wan Kenobi

After the death of Darth Tyranus, General Grievous becomes the leader of the Separatist Droid Army. Obi-Wan is dispatched to find and kill Grievous, as the Separatist movement will likely fall apart without the leadership of Grievous. At the end of a terrific fight, Obi-Wan shoots the half-alien, half droid in the heart multiple times with a blaster.

Interesting side note: General Grievous is the only non-Jedi, non-Sith to wield a light saber in combat.
10. At one point in the movie, Obi-Wan uses a blaster instead of a light saber. Afterward, what does he call the weapon?

Answer: "...uncivilized"

Obi-Wan is forced to use a blaster to kill Grievous, as he lost his light saber while chasing after him. The fight starts with Grievous using four light sabers, against Kenobi's one (Grievous has more than two limbs that function as arms). By the end of the fight and chase, neither of them possesses a light saber, and Obi-Wan is forced to resort to alternate means.

After killing General Grievous, Master Kenobi is obviously utterly put off by the device, and tosses it aside.
