Answer: Good Timin'

"Good Timin'" was written by Fred Tobias/Clint Ballard Jr. It peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 for Jimmy Jones in 1960. It was number one for three weeks on the UK singles chart the same year.

Jimmy Jones was born James Jones in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, in 1937. He died in Aberdeen, North Carolina, USA, in 2012 aged 75. He was a tap dancer before joining a doo-wop group named the Berliners in 1954, they later changed their name to Sparks Of Rhythm. Jones co-wrote "Handy Man" in 1955 which was recorded by the Sparks Of Rhythm in 1956, after Jones left the group. He reworked "Handy Man" with Otis Blackwell who did the whistling on the record and it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the UK singles chart in 1960. He had two more minor hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and three on the UK singles chart in 1960 and 1961 and that was it for Jimmy Jones.

That was it for the MGM record label too as far as UK number one hits went. They had to wait until 1972 for their next UK number one hit which was "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond.
2. This song is one of the least favourite records of my team mate wenray. Who sang this male chauvinist song with these lyrics? "Day after day there are girls at the office And men will always be men Don't send him off with your hair still in curlers You may not see him again"

Answer: Jack Jones

"Wives And Lovers" was written by Burt Bacharach/Hal David. It peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 for Jack Jones in 1964. It did not chart in the UK.

Jack Jones was born John Allan Jones in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1938. He is the son of singer/actor Allan Jones and was born on the night his father recorded his signature song "Donkey Serenade". Jack Jones attended University High School in West Los Angeles and studied drama and singing. He was discovered while performing at a San Francisco club and signed to Kapp Records. He had his first hit for Kapp records with "Lollipops And Roses" which peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962. He never had any hits on the UK singles chart but had five Top Ten albums on the UK album chart between 1972 and 1977.

Bacharach and David were asked to write a song on the theme of marital infidelity with the title "Wives And Lovers". It was to be used as a promotional tie-in for the 1963 movie "Wives and Lovers" starring Janet Leigh, Van Johnson and Shelley Winters. As with the song "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence" by Gene Pitney which was also written by Burt Bacharach/Hal David, the song did not appear in the movie but was used to promote it.
3. After his first number one hit "It's Not Unusual", Tom Jones had six hits on the UK singles chart. None of those records reached the Top Ten. His next Top Ten hit was also his second UK number one hit. What is the title of that song?

Tom Jones was born Thomas Jones Woodward in Treforest, Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales, in 1940. In 1963 he became the frontman for a local beat group, Tommy Scott and the Senators. At a gig in Porthcawl supporting Billy J Kramer and The Dakotas they were more popular than the headliners. In 1964 they made some recordings with maverick producer Joe Meek but he refused to release them. Returning to Wales and playing at the Top Hat in Cwmtillery Tom Jones was spotted by London based manager/songwriter Gordon Mills.

Mills signed up Tom Jones and got him a recording contract with Decca UK. His first single "Chills and Fever", was released in 1964 but failed to chart. The follow up single however was a different story, "It's Not Unusual" written by Les Reed/Gordon Mills and featuring Jimmy Page on guitar went to the top. It was number one for one week on the UK singles chart in 1965. It peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 the same year.
